Fallout on IGN's Top 100 Games List for 2007

Eligible games had to have been released no later than December 31, 2006 (perspective is a good thing)

Which, is definitely a good thing, as I feel games this year have been over hyped, and, dare I say it, might have actually bought their review ratings: *cough* Assassin's Creed *cough*

Personally, I was initally suprised to see that OoT wasn't top dog, but I realised that although it was an amazing game (imo) it wasn't as influencial to the games industry as, Tetris for example.

Also, I'm kind of suprised Fallout 2 didn't replace Fallout in the list, it was larger, had more cult references so would have appealed to a broader audience and was generally more accesible (no time limit for saving the vault). But either way, the list wouldn't have any credability if the Fallout games didn't make an appearence.

RE 4?

Anyway, reading this is making me depressed. Why? Because it reminds me of all the good time I had playing those games, and how I can't play them anymore because I lost all of my old games due to constant moving and a overly zealous parent in a early age.

Oh yeah, I got that feeling too. Seeing those old SNES and N64 boxes brought back some good memories, as well as those screenshots.

But I can't say that I am too unhappy with that list, with Civilization II in the top 3. The rest I really couldn't give a toss about (except of course Fallout, which so obviously deserved a higher rank).

ahhhh...man...thats gotta hurt !!!
sorry to hear that !

This list is hit and miss for me. Maybe everyone's got that feeling. I agree there are waaaaaay too many Mario and Zelda games on there. Plus, Majora's Mask? The hell?

There were some other "whu?" moments too, as well as some serious empty spaces....some people mentioned Monkey Island, and I agree. Since we could all list our own missing "best of" I won't add to that.

It does seem weighted juuuust a bit heavy toward consoles, though. It'd seem more appropriate to have two seperate lists for consoles and computers, but, hey, it is IGN.... they've got a good bunch of walkthroughs, but that's all they're truly good for.

Here it is. Full credit to Brother None:

I have two points to make on this:

- typical Sega-racism means the top is crowded with Nintendo. Get over yourself, people, Sega was the better console.
- No Oblivion, no Morrowind, let us all point and laugh.

games I missed on that list

DIABLO I and II
Heroes of might and magic
CiV III and IV
Railroad tycoon... well it wouldent made it anyway, but still one of the most enjoyable games i ever played.
Warcraft III

aww well guess i mostly just missed Diablo and Fallout 2, both deserve to be top 10.

Tetris as #2!?!?!??!?!!!!! Yeah, such a deep and involving game...

Are you kidding? Tetris is probably the most flawless and addictive game ever made. I still boot up my old Gameboy to play this from time to time. It's one of the few games I would personally rate with a full 10/10.

Well, it set new standard for RPGs to come.

I may be wrong but the game was released in a period in which RPGs had become quite formulaic, basically fantasy RPGs with similar plot devices that really didn't expand the genre anymore.

Not only was Wasteland a departure for this but it also made RPGs a bit more mature, not so much the killing texts and such but regarding plotline and what you could do in an RPG other than using your skills to kill people and loot.

Basically it showed what an RPG should do more, immerse the player.

Of course it looks a bit crappy now, and the gameplay of then isn't as friendly as some of the interfaces found in other games, but regarding some of the few features I have mentioned only a few RPGs have tried to be like that.

So it's about as great as Doom. It looked like fun from the screen shot I saw. It also reminded me of Shadowrun for Super Nintendo.

Seriously, Quake 2 but no original Quake?
Are they forgetting it's influence on online gaming?
Online gaming wouldn't be what it is today if it hadn't been for original Quake.
