Fallout 2 mod Fallout: Sonora

I can tell you what happened that FoSonora does not work... Your antivirus software ( and if you didn't install any it was windows defender). just deleted the ddraw.dll from your game folder, if that file is gone and the game is set to run High resolution patch and or dx9 such error occur. the best way to prevent them is to use clean version of sfall a.k.a one without a virus. Luckily vanilla Sfall can be trusted on that, o the contrary to sfall5.

say gimme some time and i'll download latest vanilla sfall, and whip-up a proper ddraw.ini file for it, after that the game should be playable, with some minor drawbacks ( in certain situations you won't be able to tell your companions to holster their weapons or take of armors, though it shouldn't be an issue most of the time..

I'll be back when i'm done.
till later
Thanks! Im not home currently anyway so just take your time please!

Oh.. really?!
visiting Fallout forums from work?!
Get your lazy but to whatever you're sepose to do in work, instead of bumming around the forums.

Same thing happened to me Syndicalist_Cat, its your windons defender blocking the ddraw.dll in the fallout sonora install. I just turned off real time protection and played the rest of the game without defender blocking it.

Yes it says the ddraw.dll has a phonzy trojan but its a false positive.

I see, so if I mark that fold as an exception it will work? But why does this mod containe a virus or more like something very similar to that the defender flags it as an actual virus? Should one realy trust them?

Yes it should, I just turned off real time protection while i played the game and turned it back on after. I was nervous at first too thinking why it would show up as a Phonzy trojan... I'm pretty savvy with pc's and have fixed alot of pcs infected with viruses before... after looking into this phonzy trojan more and how it works, im 99% sure this is a false positive as mentioned on the repack site I downloaded Sonora from. In the end its your call though. Pretty good mod, even went through dayglow too.

I myself never encountered anything bad, played the mod for a couple of days ,this stuff only happened now, why did my defender woke up after several days is beyond me!

don't trust the guy @Syndicalist_Cat sfall5 most likely *is* a trojan,

Here, I've already made a tailored ddraw.ini to be compatible with Fo:Sonora. I've packed it with latest vanilla sfall 4.4.3.1
though it lacks some of the neat features the sfall5 has, it is definetly virus free on the contrary to sfall5.
the files are ziped in attachment

I just launched Sonora to test ( without translation yet) and it launches fine. it even plays my upscaled Sonora cinematics just fine ( *even the Ron P. CREDITS.avi plays just fine)

Same thing for my too Syndicaliost_Cat, played multiple times for like 20 hrs before the defender kicked in. Like I said, its your call...

I have no biases here on the ukraine war living in canada, and I don't think the sfall version 5 is out to get us old faithful fallout 1 & 2 players computers messed up, actually i found the new combat AI and features very good and make the mod even better. I for one have beaten the game already and no virus/malware are on my pc after detected. So do as you want... this is just my opinion.

Gustarballs1983, if you make a version of draw.dll that works with this mod and doesn't trip the antivirus, that would be awesome too and help others enjoy this mod and not worry.

it's not a question of "make ddraw.dll" as I'm not a programmer.
all i did, was downloaded latest vanilla sfall branch v4.4.3.1 and adapted it's ddraw.ini to work with Fo:Sonora.

So now you only need to backup your original ddraw.ini to a backup folder, unpack what i've attached in my previous post to Fo:Sonora folder, configure to your liking, and you're good to go.

There are going to be some lacking features, like the expanded inventory ( although confirmed to come in next release), auto run to next rarget when melee, npc de equip weapons and armor by double clicking equip button, etc sort of stuff.

At least the file is made by multiple people, from whom each looks the others at their hands, and all have glance at the code, so nobody will pull any shenaninagns, like Mr.Stalin does in sfall5.

As I said folks It's Your call, either unblock sfall5 in your antivirus by making an exception, and risk potentiall 0wn3ge, *or* go with vanila sfall (either with what I've provided, or if You're knowledgable enaugh, Download and tailor sfall yourself from sourceforge), as i said, your call..

There are no viruses there.

which version are we talking about?
31.03.2024 or the 13.05.2024?

I've downloaded 31.03 back in the day and it is from this version that my AV kicked out the ddraw.dll, there wasn't much to do, I didn't even managed to backup the file, i literally opened the directory and my AV informed me that this file does not belong on my PC anymore :p

although sure I could check the 13.05, ad see if it makes any difference, but i'm not the first one that was victim to this.

Thanks for the help to everyone and for you gustarballs1983 I think a lot of peole will apreciate your work with sfall. This community proved its awesomness again! Appreciate you folks all a lot!

Good antivirus software does not find a virus there, they have learned to recognize a real threat.
e.g. DrWeb, ESET-NOD32, Kaspersky, Panda...

Before talking about viruses, send your antivirus software a file for analysis.

Back in the times I did check, the AVs You mentioned were the most shitty ones
DrWeb Eset and Panda were barely in <80% of AV Comparatives detection

and as for Kaspersky.. heh.. well.. let's say anyone who isn't a Russian *shouldn't* use software that is designed and maintained by ex-Russian spy from KGB..

I have a more sophisticated AV that is by design not sold in retail shops, and only available online, so that you already must have some form of protection in order to reach them. and when you start using their software, you understand, why the competition only smell dust left by my AV company, before them so to speak, that's literally how far ahead they are. and also use a secondary scanner on demand tool "just in case".

and no there is no way I can send the file for analisys, since the moment the installer in v1.13+ dropped the sfall5 ddraw.dll on my ssd, the single instance it poofed deleted by the antivirus, the Fo:Sonora installer claimed I have a faulty drive, beecause "it couldn't install ddraw.dll file onto my drive XD" since when it dropped the file it was gone even before the installler could check if it successfully unpacked said file to destination folder :p..

this is no big deal.. I've already tailored vanilla sfall to function with Sonora.. at least now my upsclaed videos are not teared apart in lower 1/3 of the screen, like they used to with sfall5, vanilla sfal guys fixed that display bug ages ago.

Hello everyone

I have been playing Fallout Sonora 1.13 along with Dayglow DLC and my game is missing certain things like:

- I can`t find uncle Miguel in Phoenix, when I speak to Larry about a relative he directs me to the bounty hunters and I don`t have any dialog option with them about the uncle

- Veronica from the casino is constantly singing, I know she suppose to go to the bar once every song for a drink but in my game she does not

- When I`m in Phoenix, I don`t have a bookkeeper as the 4th vendor near the casino

- I can`t get the motorcycle, the key simply does not appear when I kill all the blue shields riders

Does anyone encountered similar problems/glitches?

Below I have attached a screenshot of my sFall mods configuration.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Sadly Miguel quest is cut from the game, you can still find the guy on your own, but you will understand that it is him only if you read design doc and there are no interactions with him.

I've played 1.11 extended release, and 1.13 vanilla without Dayglow, and I have never seen Veronica stop singing.

I have also never seen a bookseller as the 4th vendor.

But I can get the motorcycle in the extended. In 1.13 I don't know.

Never encountered Miguel in either version.

bookseller is Part of Foxx's release so no point looking for her on official Nevada Band release, she is usually stationed between wears (armor) and oddities (junk) vendors. it's a ginger female in Metal Armor Ashley ( Fo:Tactics sprite), besides her, there's also a chest One can't ever peacefully loot, and her dumb mutt ( also Fo:T sprite)
