I know Windows Defender can be a very touchy anti-virus, i'd be especially careful of downloading any files from this forum. Stay safe.

I just checked out R4.2 u2 and I have to report that it's not working :(

Using the GOG version, if I use the root directory mode, I get the Yesterday's title screen but am dropped in the Temple after starting a new game. The world map is from F2 too.

If I use the subdirectory mode, I get the error "could not load text fonts", and the resolution mod can't find the binary either.

When I try to move around the critters.dat and master.dat files, best I can ger is the Temple again.

Everything works fine.
Install the game in a subfolder and launch it from the FYesteray shortcut.
*sfall5: update to v5.0.2.1

Just reinstalled Fallout Yesterday into C:/Games/Fallout 2/Fallout Yesterday. The desktop shortcut as well as the start menu shortcut both give me "Couldn't find/load text fonts"

EDIT: There's no file called FYesterday, so I used "Fallout Yesterday.lnk"

Game: C:/Games/Fallout 2
Mod: C:/Games/Fallout 2/Fallout Yesterday
Run from lnk or FalloutY.exe.

If the file is not found, check the quarantine, enter it in the trusted ones.
Or copy Fallout2.exe go to the mods folder and rename Fallout2 to FalloutY.
For example, qh360 does not like ddraw.dll and it signals this.

Thanks for the help. The installer never created a file called FYesterday, because there's nothing that could do quarantine on this system.

I tried FalloutY.exe directly with the same result. I copied fallout2.exe from parent directory to fallouty.exe and ran it, still "Couldn't find/load text fonts".

What's qh360? Maybe that's related to the problem.

Nope. Something was installed incorrectly. "Couldn't find/load text fonts" - the path to the game is incorrectly specified.

Answer: The main path of the game and the mod should not be different. Example:
Correctly: X:\My Games\Fallout 2 & X:\My Games\Fallout 2\<Mod>
Wrong: X:\My Games\Fallout 2 & X:\Games\Fallout 2\<Mod> or X:\My Games\Fallout2

The instruction is similar, but use FY instead of MM:
1. Install Fallout 2, example C:\Games\Fallout 2
2. Install FY to C:\Games\Fallout 2\Megamod
3. Start FY from desktop icon.
or
1. Install Fallout 2, example C:\Games\Fallout 2
2. Install FY to C:\Games\Fallout 2
3. Check "Root directory mode"
4. Check "Create Desktop Icon" (for MM disable)
5. Start FY from desktop icon.

I tried root directory again this time. Launched with the shortcut as well as directly FalloutY.exe. Result: Atom video, Arizona menu, start new game in Arroyo temple.

Could the GOG version of the game assets be incompatible with the CD version?

EDIT: Clarity.

OOOH, the "ddraw.dll" mention got me thinking.

It turns out that to work under Wine, you needs to set ddraw.dll override to "no". One way to achieve this is to run the following in the terminal:

```
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw.dll=n" winefile
```

then navigate to the link and open it.

Result: character selection should have a character named Spuck.

I was worried that it would have resulted in the answer: "This is not supported, deal with it yourself".
You would be directed to the right topic, where you would get an answer faster, perhaps with an example. Your secrecy took more time...
