Favorite Fallout 3 Quest

Fallout 2's stuff is definitely less prevalent, but when it appears it is generally a lot more obnoxious. Dr. Who references are more immersion breaking than shitty Thunderdome references, at least for me. Ultimately the scales are in Fo2's favor because as you say the stuff is more out of the way, and the rest of the game is almost universally better written from both a narrative perspective, an RPG perspective, and a lore perspective.

There will be a day where every game you play will make you appreciate Fallout 3. Start buying multiple games a year and you will see my point.

Fallout 3 deserves it's 10/10 status.

To me playing much better games, even from the same series, made me despise Fallout 3 even more given how a disgrace it is (i already hated it before touching any other Falloiut game). I had literally no expectations for Fallout 4 and i was not at all surprised with how it turned out: a complete trainwreck.

Fallout 4 coming out the way it did was just the natural course Bethesda set off with Fallout 3: make the series more and more simple to please the common denominator.

Fallout 4 has definitely made me appreciate it a lot more. Its deeply flawed, but its a billion times closer to a fallout game than 4.
Hm... In terms of aesthetic and mechanics with the silent protag and skills yeah, it looks gorgeous compared to FO4 imo. Ironic considering one of the main selling points of the Commonwealth was how vibrant and "nice" everything looked. I much prefer a bleak and desolate atmosphere compared to vibrancy in a game like Fallout. Other than that though, I'd personally say FO4 takes the upper hand. Not that it's much of an accomplishment when compared to the other games in the series that blow them completely out of the water tenfold

The quests in Fo3 are silly fun camp that if the rest of the game were better would've been fine. The setpieces they use are memorable, there are usually at least two choices, and very rarely the writing's even good. There is not a single good quest in Fo4 that I can think of

talking deathclaws. Wtf?
I don't know why so many people have a problem with the talking Deathclaws. I thought it was one of the cooler parts in Fallout 2. They don't just "talk" for no reason because the devs were furries or something. They were an Enclave experiment. The Enclave trained them to mimic speech and sent them to Vault 13 to deter wastelanders away from the Vault out of fear of seeing an entire Vault filled with Deathclaws. They eventually communicate and shelter people against the Enclave's direct commands and get annihilated. It's an entirely different form of Fallout craziness than someone dressing up like comic characters and LARPing in the street. It's not meant to be some joke or whatever the Mechanist/Antagonizer thing is.

I do and it hasn't happened yet. Are you just trying to be antagonizing?

I've played far better games in the past decade than Fallout 3 including but not limited to Fallout New Vegas, Prey, Dark Souls 1-3, Bloodborne, Disco Elysium, Underrail, Witcher 2 and 3, Tyranny. That's just RPGs and action-RPGs (I guess Prey isn't but damn it's good) that I enjoy a lot more than Fallout 3. There's a few other RPGs and action-RPGs that aren't so up to snuff for me to just willingly say it's better than Fallout 3. Hell, I liked Wasteland 2 more than Fallout 3 and it really wasn't anything noteworthy. Wasteland 3, so far, seems to be even better than WL2.

All games that have released post-Fallout 3. Just because the AAA sphere likes to shit a bunch of the same junk every year won't ever make Fallout 3 better. Fallout 3 is what it is. It might be better than a buggy, greedy Madden NFL 2022 release sure. But we've already seen plenty of better RPGs hit the market and I've not even played a decent fraction of them.

Fallout New Vegas
Personal preference, okay.
Right... go on.
Bloodborne
Not better than 3 but okay.
Disco Elysium
Isn't that the shitty indie game made by Marx sympathizers? Like it's literally a commie game?
Underrail
Who?
Witcher 2 and 3
Witcher 3 is good, but Witcher 2? Are you joking or do you truly believe this?
Come on, man. That's not even as good as Obsidian's past effort, Pillars of Eternity.

But we've already seen plenty of better RPGs hit the market and I've not even played a decent fraction of them.
I've played many RPGs, and there are few I would consider objectively better than Fallout 3. Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines come to mind, but even that merely challenges 3 in my opinion. New Vegas too.

Not going to outright shit on your opinion, but it is pretty bad. Saying something like Witcher 2 or Tyranny is better than Fallout 3 is just poor taste.

They're boring.

There's one single difference between them and humans- they can't use keyboards, so you can get a quest to get the voice-thing from Reno.

The moment you step into the room with Grunthar you learn everything about them- they speak perfect English, welcome you as a guest and have a problem with using a computer. You could replace them with any intelligent Fallout race (funnily enough Bethesda added in FO4 SMs also having a problem with typing on keyboard) and nothing would change in your interactions with them.

They should be "alien"- two vastly different intelligent races meeting face to face and trying to assess the risk the other poses. Do something interesting with the dialogue (primitive sign language?), I can chat in English with other 3 races.
Give those interactions some tension- are they really peaceful or are they luring you deeper into their lair to make sure you can't escape? Maybe that guy that wants to kill as many of them as he can and try to escape is actually right and wasn't put there by devs to give you a bad Karma quest?

They're boring.
Yeah, but that was never the main issue people had with them. They just didn't liked that they talked.

Me personally, i never had a problem with them talking. A faction like the Enclave making experiments with Deathclaws, arguably the most dangerous monster in the wasteland, to try to make them smart and in turn being able to control them better since they found out that their primitive brain is what makes them so hard to control? Makes some sense, not completely, but some. The counter argument here of course is that increasing their intelligence should also make them harder to control since they are smarter.

The issue i have with them is that they didn't do much with them, like you pointed out. Most likely a casuality of the game's rushed development.

Making them use sign language instead of actual vocal speech would have been much better, now that you mention it.

If devs wanted Enclave-made intelligent mutants that ultimately revolt against them and use English, but can't use keyboards, they could have just used 2nd Gen Supermutants.

If they couldn't do something new with a new race, why add them? For me it's just like Bethesda moving to a different region and then shoehorning in every West Coast faction instead of creating some new ones.

And Frontier did both of those things.
:roffle:

You just blow in from dumb fuck town?

You’ll be gone before we know it. You don’t even bother to try and say something new.

“Fallout 3 is perfect because I like it.”

Hmmm what sounds wrong with that?

I like how it goes on to shit on the games you listed out before with its own one-note opinion (if you can even call those one-liners opinions) to shill 3 even more.

Obvious troll is obvious.

EDIT: it is especially funny how simplistic it insults Disco Elysium when the game itself is noted to have universal acclaim by most mainstream review sites (especially for an indie title from Estonia) and has been regarded as the closest thing to a modern Planescape: Torment.
