Game Informer Fallout 3 article scans

If it tends toward worst-case scenario style mediocrity, I can only hope that it is fixable with some modding, but then gimmicky bullshite could be hardcoded, with little chance of repair.

Dialogue is the biggest question. I recall Oblivion pressuring modders to use sound files, which would be terrible.

I really hope they aren't proud of the canon-killing story. Did Bethesda plan or check it? Regardless, it is bad. Nuclear cars, mutants and BoS in the East, portable nukes, mindless mass-killing?

"The man in black fled across the <s>desert</s> city and the <s>gunslinger</s> vault dweller followed."

Fallout games had quite mediocre storylines. The journey, not the plot was the big deal. I have to say I'm shocked Bethesda didn't spoil the storyline in the first unveiling of the game. Only 18 months left to give us some details, the clock is ticking.

I'm not so worried about the story---it would help to keep to and epic---or at least introduce a new storyline in FO3.

It's the feel of the game---getting from here to there...and TODD's Idea of that might be different then the rest of ours.

They have completed the story alright, but it looks kind of bad when they can sum it up in less than 5 sentences in it's entirety.
Your vault needs a new waterchip, so you go and find it. Turns out there are supermutants roaming the wasteland and your overseer commands you to find their source and stop them. All in all you save the world.

Or maybe: Your village is dying, but if you manage to find an ancient artifact you may yet save it! Turns out some bad dudes on an oil platform want to kill everyone AND they captured your fellow villagers. If you don't kill the bad guys, you won't have any village to save with the newly aquired G.E.C.K. You do just that, bravo.

As for Fallout 3, it's much more than I hoped for + not having played Oblivion I don't have any negative/positive feelings towards Bethesda.

@yossa, did you not notice the word 'entirety'? I.e. you forgot the complications which happen along the way f.x. in FO2 getting the fuel for the tanker etc.

Ok so NMA was removed from the fansites list at BethSoft because of the scans, fair enough, but is it me or they removed the foreign language NMA sites too?

How sad. Pity that NMA is still the first result when searching for "fallout forums" or "fallout site" on google

The foreign language NMA sites were never on the fansite list, besides, all the foreign language NMA sites have the scans on the frontpage too.

PS: they just removed the NMA link from my sig and posts too. Looks like we're on a blacklist now. Gonna ask a mod.

Weapons and armor that degrade... where have I heard of that before? Seems Beth just can't think outside the square.
Hmm...
Arcanum?

The super mutant. Looks allright, Beth are allowed to develop their own vision of Supermutants.
By who? Or rather what kind of statement is this? Beth have the license and can do whatever they want. It doesn't make it as good as the original.

- As Alec mentioned, Pipboy 3000 looks too modern.
I wonder where the hell this obsession in creating a new model of pipboy comes from in the first place. Every creator of Fallout 3 seems to have it.

Please, enlighten us with the F3 story in it's entirety.

They just waited for a reasonable reason to do what they wanted a long time ago.
Or maybe they were not waiting for anything and were just following their rules.

he game was never meant to be photorealistic, the mutants were meant to be what comic-book kids would imagine mutants to look like,

I agree with this and I mentioned the same thing a few weeks back here on nma. (didn't garner much interest though).
Many things will contribute to BethSoft's FO3 being anything but a fallout and fallout fans' disappointment with it. But I think personally the biggest issue will be that it will no longer have much of the comic look that fallout had.

No doubt a product of going 3d and first person - though some games have succeeded in keeping the comic feel through its transformation to 3d, like warcraft - I fear the 1950's comic adverts and vault boy won't make up for this change.

Cons:
The battle system (VATS) sounds like crap. It's a pretty much useless system when you got enough bullets or is using a melee weapon. I mean they don't want to make it an FPS game, but still, that's what they are doing. It's a shame they will actually use the Fallout 3 name, insted of a spin off name that the game deserves. It's listed as an Action RPG :?
Mini Nuclear Launcher? What the fuck, is this a joke? "Fatman"? God.

I don't understand why they spend so much time explaining all the G.O.A.T, S.H.I.T system during character creation, it will take what? Max 5 minutes when you know what you want?

Camera; First person or 3rd over the shoulder camera? It's clearly that it will be just a crappy port of the PC players. Who to blame, the money is in the consoles anyway.

Too many mutants, what the fuck. Mutants are the the most boring people to fight except from the aliens. It's all about killing raiders, slavers and tribals (or being one of the ones above!). And they look dead ugly (not in a good "ugly mutant style), and they have maces, and not a heavy machine gun. Is this the proof that FO3 will be Oblivion with gunz?! Even in Tactics they atleast had grenades.

Pros:
Graphics look ok, it's gorey, lots of things to care about (water, rads etc.)

Am I the only one that cares that you won't have a party? Despite their crappy AI I loved the gang in the previous Fallouts

I can't particularly comment on V.A.T.S. until we know more, obviously the article is meant to grab that hip 15-20 console dollar (despite the game being M, Bethesda's market is clear, the unrefined Madden player who buys action games to show his buddies how cool the graphics are.... err sorry I'm being too harsh), but that's marketing, I'm still clinging onto a dim hope that there is some sanity and V.A.T.S. can be setup through options or whatnot for actual turn based combat, since as I understand it, it seems capable of it (pausing and selecting actions until you run out of AP sounds good, it's the description of what happens when you run out of AP that bothers me)

The stuff that's confirmed like aforementioned lack of a party concern me even more

Who to blame, the money is in the consoles anyway.

I'm not sure what to make of this, while console games obviously bring in more dough, I would assume that the PC market brings in enough to be worth of creating it's own goddamn interface, the developers of Two-Worlds think so anyway (their game might end up being horse-dung but they understand that the PC and Console require 2 entirely different UIs).

I can't imagine the development cost for differing interfaces could possibly be that high, it's like the kind of thing that ends up getting accomplishmed by ameteur modders, and it has the potential to move a few tens of thousands more units for PC.

I mean obviously game companies dissagree with me, but I still haven't figured out why.

No party, but you will have followers, override. Quite the same as the originals, which weren't party-based either

Having a party wasn't really a necessary thing in the first two games, especially in the first one it was just an afterthought that wasn't really initially planned.

Well to be fair, and as much as I want to go into another nerdrage rant against bethesda, we only know the premise for the story, the reason for the main character to leave the vault, we don't actually know anything else about the plot other than the scenario in the article's story.

Granted it will probably suck total monkey ass, but following your father isn't too terrible an excuse to leave the vault, as long as the second I hit daylight I can do what I want (including but not limited to killing my father when I find him), I'm happy in that department

And sure enough you'll have a gang in F3.

Wow, two distinctive interfaces to control horse dung! Color me impressed.

The game was being demoed on an XBOX, it would be only natural that the interface was crafted for a console. Now what would bring us to the coclusion that this same interface will be used on a PC version?

you really should have like a diary describing the evolution of FO3 from buying the license til 'the end', of course detailing how Bethsoft has treated us fans and the franchise as a whole.

i suppose Briosafreak's blog will have most entries as well, but it'd be nice to really keep track.
