Game Informer Fallout 3 article scans

It feels like somebody is throwing shit and candies to me at the same time. I don't know should I be happy or angry...

Almost more interesting to read the comments here. Seems some will never like any Fallout 3. Too bad as Bethesda seems to have gone all out to retain the Fallout feeling in Fallout 3. Seems like a hobby to me -- disliking any proposed new version of Fallout. Oh well, to each his/her own -- one can keep replaying the originals :)
Strawman argument. We are fans of a game that is a recreation of the tabletop roleplaying experience on computer - i.e. Fallout, not fans of action RPGs. An action RPG named Fallout 3 isn't any Fallout 3 but a specific instance of failure to create a new, improved recreation of the tabletop gaming experience on computer.

Fallout 3 seems exceedingly true to the originals

Yeah.

If you played the originals with a blindfold.

As said before, there's absolutely nothing in these screenshots/scans that suggest a hint of the retro-futuristic vibe that made most of fallout's setting... Instead, we can enjoy nuclear catapults, POS style targeting screen, welded power armor, and last but not least, a Chuck Norris lookalike. Well, at least the Vault hospital screenshot looks good.

It's sad, I was expecting much better material, especially after the first part of the trailer released a few days ago.

Fallout 3 lives!

Many people here argue that Bethesda "just could've copied the design from Fallout 1+2!". Yeah, and I bet they could've reused the graphics engine too, and maybe the plotline, and...
Bethesda bought the Fallout 3 license so they could create a new game, their own NEW version of a classic franchise. How unsatisfying wouldn't it be for them just to reuse all of the mechanics and looks from the two previous games? I know it would be unsatisfying for me.

The intro/tutorial sounds fun to me, and I believe it will give a good sense as to what is it like living in a vault, and the contrast when exloring the outside world will then be even greater.

As for the view perspective: Great. Don't know quite yet if I'll play it in 1st or 3rd person view, but it's the way I wanted to explore the wasteland - I've already seen it in isometric view, and look forward to seing it closer and more intimately.
The VATS seem like a rational solution to the anti-FPS problem, as you really couldn't have both FPP and TB.
The new Pip-Boy exceeds my expectations: I applaud Bethesda for having the guts to reinvent the Pip-Boy the way they did, and while many conservative fans may whine about it, the more openminded of us can appreciate it's visual flair.

I'm not really exited about the supermutant, but wouldn't want all of them to look like Marcus either, so I welcome some change (and no, it's really not an orc at all).

I like the Fatman alot, and by calling it cheesy and too cliche or too obvious, your kinda taking away Bethesdas rights to create something new in the FO universe; if The Fatman had been in Fallout 1, you would all be praying the the iconic weapon returned this time around. Nostalgia has a tendency to glorify things a bit more than they deserve (and if Fallout 1 was made today by the original developers, it most certainly wouldn't be like the Fallout 1 we know...)

Yes, call me a troll or untrue Fallout fan, but don't flame me for having an open mind and not wanting a new version of either Fallout 1 or Fallout 2, but a new game altogether, worthy of the Fallout 3-label. If new ideas aren't welcome, I don't see how Bethesda can create anything but Fallout 2,5.

An armor made of truck tires would actually make FO3 faithful to original FO1 concept art:

The Tire Armor in the concept art makes sense. In the Uruk-hai, however, we see just a piece of tire used as a shoulder-pad or something. I dunno, to me this use of the tire seems like a failed attempt to portray a post-apoc cliche image. "A big green monster wearing some vague metal armor, but he ALSO has a TIRE on his shoulder! See, he's all post-apoc and Mad Max-y now!"

Heh. It appears that ever since that SA Awful Link thingy, we've become a troll-magnet.

No worries.

EDIT: Right, locked for a little while, time to clean up the trash and deal with the troll kiddies.

EDIT2: Done. Proceed.

Wow. And here I sat thinking you guys were all wrong and how Fallout just needs to be brought into the year 2000 in terms of how a game should be with improvements in graphics and Processor power.

Turns out I was mostly wrong about you guys you were correct to worry and be critical. It appears well founded now.

If Oblivion is any indication as to mod-ability you should be able to monkey this game into a more properly inspired FO game. A-be-it under beth's basic laws.

Also I seen something on the History Channel. Like Mail Call or something about the cold war. Where in the US army actually made a Nuclear Bazooka, I barely remember. I know they made a short range Nuclear Cannon.
But for this case for use in this game. Portable Nuclear weapons and Nuclear Car engines... My Response: Does Bethesda really have any idea what they are saying? If Nuclear Technology is so present, then everybody would be friggin weilding Energy Weapons not: sticks and Shotguns.

And mechanically if all the cars had Nuclear engines. Then wouldn't the cars be electrical then? adding to that then there would not be any differential's and drive shafts for our new mutant friend to swing. As small electric motors would power each wheel individually. Unless I'm mistaken, of course. But with this story, hell! an aircraft carrier crashed into Washington DC. The Captain musta been confusing his Forward and Reverse gears again.

well i'm guessing its the 80s meets zuit suits :D shoulder pads for everyone .. also what are cowboy hats doing in DC area ? i'm no expert but maybe pork-pie or fedora would have been better.

'the fuck is this? Invasion of morons from Bethesda's forums?

I this directed at me? Please look at my join date here and don't troll.

Lot's of Bethesda fan boys popped in here eh?

Again: Directed at me? If so: I've never played Morrowind, and downloaded Oblivion to test my computers rendering power, played it for about 10 hours and quit. Speaking positive about Fallout 3 makes me a Bethesda fan boy? :?

It isn't, we had at least three trolls posting on this thread, check the vats. Grow some skin and don't backseat-moderate.

AMEN!

Thats it!

I am done waiting for Fallout3.

I am done discussing at the Bethsoft Forums.

I won't be a part of the hype machine.

I will be indifferent to Fallout3 from now on until it comes out an "have a look" on it, if it is any good.

All the good parts in the article are just promises.

From now on believing in a good Fallout3 is like believing in Santa Clause.
