Gamefaqs says FO3 one of greatest games of decade.

Fallout 3 is apparently losing against Brawl. Ah well, it's amazing it came this far. Good news for Fallout....

good news for fallout... what? fallout 4, developed by beth, using same old engine with brand new lighting effects, "sorry, had no time to make ladders work but I think Todd said its more important to include some nuclear weapons"... fuck this, merry Xmas everyone.

The fact that voters chose Fallout 3 over Deus Ex shows how retarded they are.

The first thing that came to mind whilst reading that, Deus Ex is a sick game. Fallout 3 is nothing special - to say the most.

Well if they choose Final Fantasy X and Persona 3 (the least good of the Persona and SMT series) as games of the decade in a past poll already destroyed their credibility as havign any taste at all, I liek Fallout 3 a lot but is far from being the best game of the decade.

What crappy soundtrack. Personally I always play fallout 3 with acdc hired guns, night prowler, and hells bells in the background.

This is the perfect song for when you just have to kill every single motherfucker.

But seriously fallout 3 will go down in history as one of the best games ever made. I would also put dues ex up their as well. Without Fallout 3 Fallout would just be a cult classic. Fallout 3 put it on the map, you know all those record sales of Fallout New Vegas, that's because of Fallout 3. Fallout 3 introduced a whole new group of people to the franchise, a large amount who think the Vegas was a let down. We can argue all day about cannon, but lets face it as far as apocalyptic game play goes I found F3 very enjoyable.

Fallout 3 really hit on what people enjoy about the apocalypse, the ability to do what you could not do in the real world. Enslave people, force them into prostitution, eat them, or explode their pants. They also like the eary feeling of walking through what essentially is the graveyard of America, combing through the ruble, its weirdly unsettling.

Though it may not have stayed completely true to fallout cannon I thought it was pretty cool how they obviously took cues from apocalyptic movies like Mad Max, and Escape from LA. I mean Megaton was straight out of Mad Max was and President Eden seemed to resible the President from Escape from LA, wasn't Ashur the Peruvian revolutionary in LA.

Who told you that?

The guy says that classic Jazz and swin is crap.....
The guy says ACDC is crap...

Fallout 3 introduced huge number of people to Fallout. The reason Fallout New Vegas was the most anticipated game in history was because Fallout 3 was such a success, without Fallout 3 their would be no new Vegas. Fallout 3 was the first Fallout game I had ever heard, and what introduced me to the series. Without it me and a lot of others would never have heard of Fallout. Doesn't that make Fallout 3 good for the franchise?

He didn't say that.

No, it wasn't.

You can say I was too first introduced to the series by Fallout 3. Well, sort of.

On the point, Fallout 3 isn't a good game for a franchise.
It brought many unnecessary people to it, many of which are quite stupid, ruined the canon, changed the gameplay, had a crappy story and setting, and overall, was only "fallout" because it says so in its name, which, as we are all aware, means nothing.

And sold millions.

Didn't we had that point already ? Numbers do not equal quality.

I am sure Bieber and Britney sold more (and earned ... much more) compared to any Bach, Beethoven or Amadeus. But have they a "inherently" better quality in their music because of popularity or sold titles ?

That is why we make a difference between "pop culture/entertainment" and "classics". Why Fallout 3 is a lulz-simulator and Fallout 1 a timeless cRPG classic.

It's just a number...or a word?

In any case, there ain't no heart or soul in there, I tell ya.
It's a million-copies-selling crap.

EDIT: Crni ninja'd me. That's a deadly sin.

probably more regarding the people behind Fallout 3 which did not even played the original before making the game.

It's not a matter of heart and soul. There isn't anything poetic here. A game, a sequel, outsold all of it's predecessors combined. It was a success and a continuation of a franchise, even if it's not the continuation you wanted. If you're talking about some sentimental idea of what the franchise and Fallout name mean to you, that's completely different.

Look at the sales of Fallout 1/2 after Fallout 3 was released:

I myself paid money to purchase these titles. I would never have bothered with them if I had not played Fallout 3.

And Bieber and Bach are completely separate genres and wouldn't be considered the same "franchise". A better comparison would be to say, "I don't like the new orchestra playing the old Mozart piece I like. The brass section is weak and there's an electric guitar that's really annoying.". Whether you don't like the musicians is irrelevant in the face of people having never heard Mozart to begin with.

Then I guess halo is an incredible game and not just generic fps garbage, I mean it sells more than other franchises, peopel that guide themselves through numbers and sales are just sheep that can't form their own opinion.

You should consider taking some reading comprehension classes my friend.

It seems logical to me that if people didn't like halo and/or consider it to be an incredible game they would simply stop buying it. I don't even like Halo but I have enough sense to recognize it as a strong franchise and top of the list for console shooters.

Fallout: New Vegas is a game that sold almost entirely on the momentum of Fallout 3. If people hated the game so much and thought it was a complete travesty, I would expect NV sales to be lower not higher. To ignore the numbers completely is just silly. Pete Hines isn't sneaking into a million homes at night to whisper sweet subliminal messages into the minds of the people who buy the games.

The discussion here is whether F3 made the franchise stronger. The hard fact is, yes. People can argue all day whether they thought it was a shitty sequel or not. And the fact that people are drooling at the mouth for more Fallout content tells me F3 will still be considered a great title 10 years down the road. Game of the decade? Probably not. But the fact it keeps showing up on these lists means it resonated with a lot of people.
