Games series ruined by new owners.

Having been around with the Doom phenomenon, it was never all that controversial of a game because the fundamentalists in my area didn't play video game and thus couldn't get their outrage together.

Also, gamers never took it seriously as a whole.

Considering the time was full of way more christians and such, the demon imagery was pretty serious.

Their previous game was a load of nazi's, which was also fairly serious, although the sounds was comedic.

Doom IMO had far more serious imagery and sound, compared to games of the time.

The Revenant's AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH is still terrifying.

Just because something offends christians doesn't make it serious considering the nonsense those people take seriously. Everything about Doom (and the original Wolfenstein) was incredibly tongue and cheek. Doom 4 understood this. Doom 4 has a myriad of other problems, but its tone isn't one of them.

I can't say the tone of Doom 4 is better than 1, when they turned all the enemies into plasticine looking things (ironic, as the original sprites were made from digitised plastacine models)...

The tone of Doom 4 is less thrash more metal with too many fist bumps.

I'm not not necessarily saying its better, I'm saying it's a solid modernization of the original games' tone in the context that they were tongue and cheek action games. That's how I interpreted them and apparently the folks currently at Id feel the same way.

Both are equally ridiculous and its good fun. Doom 4's larger issues are its casual focused gameplay, but tonally it's spot on for what a modern Doom game should be. The idea that original games were a serious horror franchise for their time is silly to me. These were games made by a bunch of dudes that were getting stoned and listening to Hell Awaits.

I just prefer the atmosphere of the originals. If they tied Lovecraft Quake into the new Doom series then I would instantly repent.

Also, another thing, why is doom 4's gore so atrotious compared to the sprite and particle effects in the FREE mod brutal doom (what doom 4 basically tried to copy)?

Where's the bodies staying on the ground to be dismembered more? Where's the blood spray? Where is enemy dismemberment not killing them instantly? Etc?

The love for the new Doom always elluded me, but I just thought it was because I was never into Doom in the first place. The new one just looked all so floaty, slow and bullet spongey, kill animations constantly interrupted the flow of the game and it just never looked appealing to me.

In a nutshell, they took Brutal Doom and casualised it for the console-tards.

Oh damn did they kill that hard, eh? The only people I know who played it, are big youtubers to suck cash from advertisers.

The new Hitman has the best gameplay in the series. The only thing they fucked up on was making it episodic.

Dungeon Siege. DS3 ain't bad, but Obsidian took one of the series' defining elements (getting a massive party [8 in the first game, 4 in the second game's first playthrough, 5 in the second playthrough, 6 in the third] together and completely wrecking everyone's shit) and completely arsing it up (from what I remember, you control one character and have an AI-controlled partner.) It's one of Obsidian's biggest fuck-ups.
