Here in Lat Am I've seen channels using the cheap overdub method used in some channels, A&E channel used to do it a lot but the dubbing everything is more common altho we still get the Original language Subtitled option on everything too.

Children's cartoons are dubbed but that's about it over here in Finland.

Hmm, I put a photo in the "Post a pic of yourself" - thread but I can't seem to be able to embed the photo. I guess that can't be done anymore.

I am an atheist but I had never actully encountered one of those famous Fedora guys.... until now, I wasn't aware that there were atheists who bitch at any fictional work with fantasy element as indoctrination tools to keep people irrational... Like... come on guys, that's beyond any form of autism can shield you from being called an idiot with a giant stick up his ass. I know I usually sneer at certain types of fiction but it's because I am an asshole who thinks he has superior tastes not because of my choice to believe or not in gods, Jesus....

Red completely dubs, here Tom Cruise is a Bavarian,(...)
Nope, German dubs have everyone speaking boring standard German 99.9% percent of the time. The 0.1% were done by Rainer Brandt, who just doesn't give a shit and changes dialogue as he sees fit. The last one he did like that was Hogan's Heroes, though. Some of these are actually entertaining to watch and at least have the benefit of originality.

I'd really wish more dubs would go the route of "Die Zwei"/"The Persuaders" or "Hogan's Heroes". Just have some fun with the accents and all.

There's also a lot of dubbing studios here in Slovakia as well, with one of the biggest in Nitra being actively cooperating with our state television STV, so we do have a lot of foreign series/movies/cartoons dubbed in Slovak. Nevertheless, a lot of movies goes with Czech dubbing too, which is good since olde movies (e.g. Das Boot) sounds actually better in Czech than in original language.

Yeah, see my edit. It's still a travesty but at least it crosses the threshold of originality and the voice actors seem to be having fun/showing actual emotions. I've read some articles on how this works for mainstream releases and it's no wonder the dubs are so bland and the actors sound like they have no idea what's going on. Because that's basically true: they don't get to know the story, no context for the current scene, they record scenes out of order and the video they have to work with is often heavily censored. Sometimes only the mouths of people are clearly visible, the rest is blurred out or blackened. I kid you not. Plus, of course, it's extremely rushed. Especially for current TV shows because people don't want to wait too long for new dubbed episodes and might otherwise watch the original online. On the other hand, some broadcasters tried showing stuff like Doctor Who with subtitles before the dub was finished but people didn't really want to watch those, either. I hate people. This is why we can't have good things.

Yeah, it's fucking awful. Stopped watching dubbed TV (and thus german free TV) because of the abysmal quality. I can definitely see how the voice actors don't really know what's going on. Don't wanna imagine how terrible it might be in video game industry, which is even less accepted in Germany. It was especially bad in New Vegas, where they apparently recorded all the lines of the Legion before realizing that they pronounce "Caesar" differently and that that's a special point in the story, but didn't have the time to redo all those lines.

The dumb nazi joke is whatever, everybody thinks doing those makes them super funny nowadays, but making those two guys almost lose what is probably their only consistent source of income is just dickish, the most offensive part of the story.

I haven't played a game with a German dub in at least 10 years, if not longer. So I take it they didn't use the latin pronounciation of "Caesar" for the Legion in the German dub?

The only thing it took for some people to become fans of Pewdiepie was for him to get dropped by Disney for exploiting underpaid foreigners to make nazi jokes. Makes you think.

What do you guys think about forum games? Like:

* Lie To Me - you post 3 things about yourself, people guess which is the lie.
* Screengrabs - post pics of screengrabs from a film, people have to guess which film
* 3 word story - each poster gets 3 words to add to a story

Games like this can either clutter up a forum if not moderated or bring people closer together since they are encouraged to post more. Stupid ones that encourage mindless spamming are never fun, like I saw one where you post numbers next in order...lame.

The Screengrab one sounds fun. I've tried to start a picture thread up here, but it always dies. Fuck this thread here is hard to get going at times. Screengrab games are fun when they use videogames especially...we used to have one of those in THE ORDER I believe. Maybe post a screenshot of a location within the game. People try and guess where it was and the winner posted the next one. Anyway just browsing around fucking off since I'm bored and don't feel like modding right now.

Welcome to 3-word sentence fest. The One word at a time has no connection between lines at all, heh. The others dound pretty fun, the image one sounds like too much work so for the Order ;D
