It's still finals time in Hungary, I just sent an essay. Always feels good that no matter how badly you probably fucked up at least your sufferings are over. I despise writing essays, even though I usually receive pretty good grades for them.

I've read that, but apparently Cracked once again did not do research and forgot to mention the fact that the drug dealer boyfriend may actually have murdered that guy they were taking revenge for, and also that the neighborhood was glad that afore-mentioned boyfriend got killed because him and Megan (the one telling the experience) were acting rather agressively towards others. Kind of ruined the entire thing for me.

Well, this is prolly a better article for shock purposes. Really fucked up, reminds of the Deep Web threads on /x/ where some guy was posting screenshots from a forum called "Violent Desires". That was a bit worse than the site "Pam" was on, but not by much.

I am speechless. The source of my avatar, Donquixote Doflamingo, the Heavenly Yaksha, the cruel King of Dressrosa, has Fallen! @_@

For those completely oblivious to anime or to One Piece specifically, all you need to know is that this is a character who has been built up for about 10 years. Aspects of his past and his personality being set up individually across many separate story arcs and plots (such as his political and ideological affiliations, and the exact nature and potential of his powers) for so long, that with all this anticipation, for circumstances to finally bring him into conflict with the main characters and for that strife to come to a head, and FINALLY be defeated and dethroned??? This is a MONUMENTAL moment in this series! It's not the defeat of Blackbeard. It's not the overthrowing of the corrupt World Government. It's not the discovery of the titular treasure of One Piece. It's not the main character realizing his goal to become the legendary Pirate King, the man with the most freedom in the world. This isn't a series-ending conclusion, but it's an amazing moment in this story's.......... story!

I just HAD to share that with the NMA community. Even though it's highly unlikely that anyone else even cares. XD

I doubt that I'll be changing my avatar to another character anytime soon, cause even if he's been defeated, Doflamingo is still one of the most amazing villains ever conceived (just like you won't see people with Darth Vader avatars changing them because Return of the Jedi happened 30 years ago), and one hell of a badass with one of my favorite quotes ever... He's still a worthy avatar representative. =)

I much prefer Jojo now that I have discovered it. Currently reading Part 4, altho I read a bit of Steel Ball Run, and holy shit. The Art is Amazing in that one.
Shonen Jump series have really lost their charm to me. Even tho Jojo technically started in Jump it has a completely different feeling to it than their current shonen series.

And, well that whole business with the confederate flag is quite a doozy. I ain't gonna touch it with a five foot long pole, on account of me not even being from the US.
But still, it's some heavy shit what's happened recently....

Chapter 791

what
Yep, been going since 1997. It now owns a Guinness World Record for... eh, something or other. It's the longest running printed story by some measurement they used. Certainly not the LONGEST, since Berserk is only into its 300 or so chapters, yet it's been going since 1984, but Miura only releases a chapter every couple of months, and the last chapter was over a year ago.

The character Donquixote Doflamingo was introduced in chapter 233 and episode 151 in the manga and anime, respectively, and that was back in 2002-2003. So he's been a recurring villain with an increasing presence in the story for approximately 13 years. In the last 2-3 years he's been featured as a central antagonist, and the Dressrosa Arc- the series' current -finally brought him to direct confrontation with the main characters. That's sorta like what if Sideshow Bob was never exposed and sent to prison in the first season of The Simpsons and he finally brought into conflict with Bart by the 13th season. One HELLUVA build-up!

It would be quite a commitment to follow something like that so passionately for two decades. I couldn't do that. It reminds me too much of soap operas and their never-ending stories. I believe that the quality here is on much greater level, but nonetheless, if a writer cannot get to the point, in a timely manner, I wouldn't want to waste my time on a potentially huge disappointed - I did that once with Wheel of Time series, and I told myself back then: "Never again."

I agree with the sentiment that it's a risk when the writer can't get to the proper resolution in the right way at the proper span of time. But thankfully Oda has shown that he has no such difficulties. The series kills off so few characters that when he really wants a death to matter, he spends an entire chapter showing the audience, "Yes, he's dead, really, really dead" to let it sink in. He lets the consequences of character's decisions have their proper explanation without being heavy on exposition. There's plenty of showing and telling without an excess of either. You learn to hate characters you're meant to hate (seriously, by the end of the Baroque Works Arc, I REALLY hated every fiber of Sir Crocodile's being) and you love the character's you're meant to love, and the dynamics between them is always fresh and interesting.

The major difference between One Piece and its immediate peers, I'd say, is the effort the author puts into research and planning ahead. Naruto was really promising, then near the end it just kinda fell apart into a bit of a mess. Kishimoto was building the series towards a massive event, and some of the major loose ends of the series felt like they were left dangling just so he could clean everything else up for the series' finale. Bleach... well, it's been kind of a mess for a long time. Fairy Tail was always very simplistic, so it's never suffered much because its bar was always quite low so it was hard not to deliver. But Oda takes infrequent but timely breaks from One Piece so he can do his research and have his much-needed vacations so each chapter can come out properly. On rare occasions he'll take 2 weeks off, and once, during the series' only time-skip, he took an entire month off to plan out the second half of the series (we're currently sitting at about the 65-70% completion mark, according to Oda). So similar to A Song of Ice and Fire, Once Piece is already planned out, it's just a matter of time before it's all PRINTED out. Though, unlike GRRM, Oda is quite young, and his work is constantly being produced consistently, so there won't be any complaints of large lapses in content. =)

But I just kinda get into the groove of "what happens next?" every week, so the time goes by without me noticing. I'd heard about One Piece back in 1999, but I didn't get into it until 2006. So I've only been a fan for just under a decade, but it's always consistent and high quality delivered at a regular pace, and promised to be fully planned out, so I have few worries that it'll run into troubles like the other series mentioned above. Plus, major events like this don't come so often. Big ones come every year or so, sure, but not quite this scale! The last big mind-blow was the War of the Best (Choujou Sensou) and that ended back in 2010!

I'm more concerned about works like Berserk (because seriously, it's been a WHILE since Miura last released a new chapter) and High School of the Dead, because apparently the brothers who collaborated on it have split and they haven't resolved what's keeping them from continuing it. Those are pities, really. =/

Actually it's a damn fine zombie apocalypse / psychological thriller story, which happens to have excellent fan service as well. The writing's really great, which is why it's so unfortunate that whatever happened between the brothers happened. There was like a year gap, then they seemed to reconcile their issue(s) and Chapter 30 was released, so it looked like HOTD was coming back... then that was the last chapter, and it's been years since. ~_~

No, too much "hey this girl is getting eaten, that's the best time to show off her panties and bouncing boobs with ahegao face!" But that might just be the anime.

Gore is not a problem to me, I read the Battle Royale manga, and that one actually made the few instances of sexuality during violent moments intentionally disturbing and not for titilation.

Would this avatar be annoying?

I didn't give any advice yet! The new av would be fine; kinda cool actually. If you wanted it to be annoying, it's not annoying enough.

Antone has any advice to deal with back/column pain after prolonged PC use? I am in the middle of a time crunch with an animation and my back is just fucking killing me....

I don't know, does PCP put people on edge? I am only using nootropics so I can be completely focused onthat, wouldn't want anything that puts me on edge. I got 10 seconds of 3D animation done in 12 hours but after I was done I realized my back was killing me and I hadn't eaten anything since lunch.
