General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

I am currently playing Valkyria Chronicles and RE5: Mercenaries for kicks and just to kill time, I am playing some Diablo 2 with some friends and families while waiting for 3.

I might start a Civ 4 or Galactic Civ 2 run again.

Because I've got Civilization:Revolution for the xbox from my brother, I've played it. And what shall I say, for sure it's a dumbed down version of the Computer game's version. But it's still fun for me, except the last few rounds, where I always feel rushed towards the enemy (on highest difficulty settings), it also seems sometimes a bit unfair when every nation is declaring war at you at some certain step of the timeline. But still, I was surprised that it was actually a good game, the encyclopedia was also very interesting.

I've got that as well, it's alright, though like you said, it's a more streamlined version of Civilization, but it's pretty good fun with a friend against the computers.

To the other poster that asked, Borderlands is pretty fun, you pretty much need extra people to play with to get the real experience. The different character skills are all helpful, there's gobs of different weapons, huge enemies. Just one really fun co-op experience.

Lastly on-topic, I should be getting Blood Bowl soon, so I'm gonna be playing that for a bit.

I am currently playing The Precursors, or rather 'trying ' to play the game as it unfortunately is in Russian.

There is a translation patch in development but the developer has only had time to do so much.
Quest descriptions, item descriptions have been done, but dialogs with characters still need to be translated.

He at least has been able to translate the intro movie, providing subtitles.
I hope he can also do the opening conversation.

This game deserves a translation or even better, an official English release as it seems to be an interesting mix between Deus Ex like gameplay, driving, and piloting your own ship in space.

It also looks IMO pretty nice, and unlike Bethesda they have managed so far to make a city that really feels like a city.

Found Red Faction: Guerrilla from some random salebin from a supermarket, and since then I've had all the fun in the world destroying buildings (and rather oddly, bridges) with the sledgehammer.

Hehe, i am also playing it and although it is a bit repetetive, destroying the buldings is a lot of fun!

It's fun to get the satchels, then take out bridges when you see a slew of enemy vehicles, hurting towards you from the other side of the bridge.

Going to see if I can rent Red Dwad Redemption. It's probably out though. I am currently playing Dwarf Fortress.

I also am hoping I get in the WoW: Cataclysm beta.

Project Reality for Battlefield 2.

I bought BF2 a couple of days ago, kinda hoping it would be a little more sane player behavior-wise than BC2. It's actually a bit worse. 90% of the gameplay consists of nadespamming and sniping at the same locations, people are bunnyhopping like mad, killing with rocket launchers instead of primary weapons etc.

PR, on the other hand, is more to my liking. It takes patience (rounds can take 3+ hours), is more difficult, but comes a lot closer to creating the feel of a true modern battlefield. This is probably the only shooter where I've ever actually had fun running away from an enemy Merkava in the middle of a huge city together with my squad, because we had no AT weapons.

By the way, if anyone reading this wants to try PR out, you can contact me by PM and we can play together sometime. I'm a noob myself, but I'll teach you what I know. Preferably you should have a microphone, because VOIP is the fastest way to communicate in-game.

I don't know why but I got the urge to play through Grand Theft Auto San Andreas again...

Heh, forgot how hilarious this game was...

Split/Second because I'm a filthy whore for shiny and gimmicky racing games. It's impossible to describe the game without drawing a comparison to Burnout, and suffice to say it's similar to Burnout but with different mechanics - instead of ramming and slamming and psyching your opponents into their doom you charge a meter by jumping and drifting until you're able to trigger traps (called Powerplays) on the track to decimate your opponents. Timing is key, and the more powerful Powerplays can actually alter the track itself. It's as fun as Burnout for me, but unfortunately can also be just as frustrating because rubberbanding AI arrrgh. It's also got a decent visual style and level of polish, and learning the tracks is all sorts of fun (and required) due to the Powerplay mechanic.

I'm enjoying it, but I'm unconvinced of its longevity.

I was thinking of getting it when my bro gets back from Uni as we find racing games boring when played alone.
He also loves xtreme 'splodeys.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. This game's combat is really fun, how the fuck did Oblivion get so much score when compared to the melee combat of this game?

How are you liking Borderlands? Im still on fence about getting it or not

I'm playing Borderlands right now and let me tell you: do not die before playing this, it's composed of awesomesauce and badassedness.

The game has playthrough 1 (normal) and 2 (new game with the lv 35~40 character you just finished). I played solo twice as Soldier (it's an OMFG Mojo level 61 now), and now I have 3 more games (1 as Hunter with a friend as Soldier, 1 as Siren with another friend as Hunter, and 1 as Brick with these two friend together - they're Hunter and Soldier, respectively).

You simple can't play enough - ok, you can, but it's still damn fun after 3 days without playing it, I really keep coming back for more dakka dakka dakka! I'z da shootiest, boss!

On an aditional note: the last FPS one of these friends played was Doom 2, and came back into FPSing just because of Borderlands (he saw me playing, tried and fell in love). The other friends is just another FPS whore like me

OH! I'm also playing Dawn of War 2 Chaos Rising, it's full epic win in all conceivable meanings of this expression.

Is core gameplay similar to vanilla DOW2 or has it changed somehow? (i have base management in mind, or lack of it)

Red Dead Redemption, just got to the point after the game's ending where [spoiler:c72be0bd12]Jack is about to take revenge on Ross and I need to find his wife. [/spoiler:c72be0bd12]

Very good game so far, the random events keep the countryside interesting and there's plenty to do within the towns.
