General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Borderlands, it's a pretty fun game if you just want to shoot a lot of stuff and I like the art style. It makes you feel like you're in some kind of a comic book.

Ahhh, Borderlands. The game that convinced me to buy an Xbox. I just love Clap Trap. I wish there was an option to side with him in the Robot Revolution.

Anyway, I'm currently doing side quests and getting better weapons in New Vegas. I'm preparing for Honest Hearts.

On the side, I'm playing an mmorpg called Mabinogi. It's quite fun to play with my friend who also downloaded it. It's from Nexon, the Maplestory guys. I downloaded it after I completly blanked on my password and other stuff in Maplestory after I stopped playing it. So I downloaded Mabinogi.

Yeah, I haven't played very much yet but so far it feels like what Fallout 3 wanted to be. I'm really impressed by how many weapons there are, I didn't even think it was possible to have that many in a game.

Well if you look carefully the weapons aren't that different from each other, on the other hand they are all so damn smexy it doesn't matter.
More games need revolver sniper rifles!

Magicka is only 8 quid which is cheap enough to buy without a sale considering the content. The controls are pretty tricky though especially, if like my friends, you tend to default to wasd controls. :V

Well, I'll trust you guys, and buy the game.
It looks interesting from what I have seen on Youtube videos, and with all your recommendations, it can't be a miss...

Already finished Digital Devil Saga 1, weird story is weird. Now playing Nocturne, I already got the High Pixie by evolving my Pixi, I am just level 13, and Matador already kicked my ass.

Something occured to me. I should have asked this a long time ago, and it's a stupid question, I know, but...

In games that feature loading your save from the previous game (i.e. Mass Effect, Dragon Age, The Witcher) I only need to have a save file in my computer, not the whole game, right?

Stupid, I know...

I don't know why some people think Bioshock 2 was so much worse than Bioshock 1. I thought it was pretty good and still made sense as a continuation from the first game. Plus they fixed that ridiculous hacking mini-game, so that was a bonus.

The little sister bit at the end was pretty awesome.

What do you think of the BioShock Infinite?

It has a lot of potential but from the looks of it there's a big possibility that you could have an annoying companion you have to protect for a large part of the game. This worries me, if the game becomes on long escort mission then it's going to be terrible. On the other hand if they make her more like Alyx Vance in Half-Life then it could actually work very well for the game.

In terms of plot, the only way I can see this working is if they set it in a different universe then Rapture. A single reference to Rapture could possibly ruin the game, for instance if one of the characters is related to Andrew Ryan or something stupid like that. Also, if Columbia had stuff that gave you superpowers in the 1910's then it wouldn't make sense for the people of Rapture to get so excited about ADAM.

Bioshock 2 was superior in every way except for plot and atmosphere. After your first trip down to Rapture the whole thing kind of loses it's magic.

Conduit 2 for the Wii.
Its a rather standard by the number FPS game and the main character really seems to walk slow when you don't use the sprint button.

Also when you use the Wii control and nunchuck you arms do get tired after a while and unaltered controls seem somewhat clunky.

But despite this somewhat negative start up I do enjoy the game.
Sure it doesn't set new standards and it has now completely discarded the health bar in favor for red edges on the screen (there was a health bar in the previous game, and though you had auto health you could still pick up health items to accelerate healing) like a lot of 'modern' FPS games, it hasn't radically changed from its predecessor other than looking graphically somewhat better.

That is pretty rare in an age in which publishers seem to demand that almost every sequel is radically different from its previous entry.

For a moment I thought one of the better weapons had been changed and made weaker but I discovered I simply had to go to secondary modus to get the preferred firepower.

Last but not least, its at least a new Sci Fi-ish shooter, I haven't played one of those as barely any had been released in quite some time.

The same developer is working on a horror FPS (but B horror though) called The Grinder for some time (the non Wii versions are top down shooters), that is now planned for this year.
If it turns out somewhat decent like this I will probably pick it up.

Edit; one thing I forgot is that the main character now talks a lot more, and it seems more 'macho ness' than I recall from the previous game.
Its rather out of place to be honest.

That's another thing that has me worried about Bioshock Infinite. The player character is supposed to talk a lot more, which is something I've never really liked in games. It's especially odd when it's something you'd never say in real life and can kind of break immersion.

I think that was kind of the point in the original Bioshock, you start off thinking you're playing just another generic action hero guy and you get comfortable playing as him throughout the game, then they throw the twist at you and it makes it all the more effective. You were able to imagine yourself as Jack and put yourself in his shoes in the first half of the game, then when you find out what you've been doing the whole time it can reach you on a deeper level. Bioshock is one of the few games that did the whole generic player character thing really well.

I agree, from what I saw in that gameplay trailer it looks like it's going to be the guy just spouting stupid one-liners for the majority of the game. I still have faith in Irrational since they did well with the first game and setting Infinite in a different location will give them more to work with, but I'm still afraid of what I've seen so far.

Picked up Shank on a whim. Fun 2d sidescroller beat 'em up/hack&slash with awesome graphics/art. I heard it was supposed to be pretty hard, but even I could beat it on hard mode using a keyboard of all things. And I'm not a good "gamer".

Risen. I consider it an unofficial sequel to Gothic.

I think this game is a good example of how to simplify without having to alienate your fanbase because of dumbing down. Its a lot more accessible, I've managed to convince many others to try it and they prefer it to the elderscrolls as well. But at it's heart, it's still Gothic and for that, I love this game.

Thief 3 completed.
Men of War all the way now. Love this game, and gonna upgrade my machine for network games. For some reason it gets choppy when I play online ;_;
Still - one of the best strategic games I've played. For those who haven't played it:

Looks similiar to Company of Heroes but is 100% more entartaining and realistic. Can't wait for Men of War: Vietnam *.*
