If you're playing a swordsman, don't forget to pick up the special moves (riposte etc.), they make the game a lot easier.
And don't overlook bombs and traps, they're very useful, especially dealing with monsters.
I have came to that conclusion as well. The learning curve is a little rough at first, but once you get the hang of using bombs, oils, and potions it gets better. The flaws with the controls can be avoided by focusing on traps and other tricks. I would like to say that QTE should be abolished from gaming though. I am sick of QTE being in every fucking cinema in every game now. I cannot watch a cinema without looking for a button to pop up somewhere. I am aware that it can be turned off, but in some games that is not the case. Just my two cents.
