General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Is an ifnerior Rehash of Ocarina of time, and it's not "Some Okami added in" more like, "clumsily sprayed on", even the creators admit the game is pretty much a hollow shell, with mechanics that are never actually used and a huge amount of useless weapons. Also the story is rather dumb, even for a Zelda game. And they make them with years and years of development time, so, no excuse there. But whatever. That's my opinion I guess.

I really hated Twilight Princess. It didn't really feel like a Zelda game. I have played all of the core titles and it had to be the worst. Just for shits, my top 3 Zelda games are...

Link to the Past
Ocarina of Time
Windwaker

No idea what everyone is on about here. I enjoyed the TP throughout and it's generally reviewed extremely well, with 10/10's and 9/10's across the board. It's possibly the best reviewed Zelda game out there so I'd say that you are probably in the minority on this one.

Perhaps you expected things that Zelda games are not known to deliver, like a good story (or any story)? Sounds like Walpknut did. Or maybe you expected an actual rehash of OoT like you said.

Anyway, to each his own but I definitely recommend checking this one out because it is generally considered to be an excellent game.

I said that even for a Zelda game low standards when it comes to story, TP had an extremely bad one. My bigger problem with the game is the disjointed feel of every mechanic it introduces and never uses and the lack of any real side quest like in previous Zelda games and the overall emptyness of the map.

Zelda games have no standards when it comes to story. Each provides a setup for an adventure with some oddball characters here and there. Saying that one is a worse story than the other is like saying that a skateboard is a better car than a segway.

Regarding the rest, I didn't love the game as much as the critics did but I saw no problems with it. A decent enough Zelda game if you ask me.

My problem was that it (TP) takes ages to finally get started. The beginning in the village is long and tedious, as are the parts in the Twilight looking for the Tears while being forced in wolf form. Once the map opens and you can freely go between wolf and human, the game really picks up, but before that I quit playing twice because I was just straight up bored. I prefered Wind Waker, Majora's Mask, A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time, in that order, myself. Didn't play Skyward Sword, apparently it kinda sucks however.

That was one of my gripes too. I got really tired of playing it. That has never happened to me with any other Zelda game. It also seemed overly gloomy for a Zelda game IMO. I haven't played Skyward Sword yet.

These Spambots can be entertaining at times.

Finished up RE4 and 5, along with SoTN (including the flipped castle).

For a game that requires so much precision aiming, RE4 sure does like to make you wrestle with the controls. If it had proper mouse support and less finger-breaking button mash QTEs, it'd probably be tied with CV for the best title in the series.

RE5 is still the one of the best coop games released in recent years. It's fun when played alone, but bringing a friend into the mix takes it to another level. My only gripe with it is that the setting feels out of place and just doesn't fit with the series.

SoTN was okay, but it didn't quite live up to all the praise it received. I ended up only using three different swords through the entire game (Basilard, Combat Knife then the Alucard Sword) because while the game has a huge variety in weapons, the only ones even remotely decent are the fast ones. Casting spells is a pretty big pain in the ass, and requires ridiculous button combos the likes of what you'd see in a fighting game (Left + Right + Down-Right + Down + Down-Left + Left + Right + Square).

Currently playing OoT:MQ, which is a lot of fun with how the dungeons have been changed and the new enemy types. Walking around in the first dungeon and running into a 15 foot tall Deku Baba was an awesome surprise.

Not quite sure what to play next. I haven't touched D3 in over a month and I plan on keeping it that way until they get their shit together. Perhaps I'll give Wasteland a try.

Perhaps? Banned

Oh, and of course I finished Hordes of the Underdark a while back. I liked it a little less towards the end, but it was still good value for an expansion. Bad things: platforms-and-lever puzzles, random out-of-character party member interjections, setting-incongruent shitty plot twists. Good things: the planes, ending up not completely idealizing Aribeth.

I then started playing the OC again just to see if clerics really are that overpowered in vanilla 3.X. I once said whoever voiced Aribeth should be shot. I will settle for being torn apart by buffaloes.

Lately I have been playing ALOT of GTA:IV just for kicks, ya know? I love Sandbox Games like GTA:IV because you can play them the way you want and do whatever the fuck you want. I could care less about the story I just like cruising in a bitchin' car.

Dune 2000 - Why do I love this slightly clunky average strategy game. It might not be the great sequel people were looking for after Dune II, but there was something about the design, the colours, the units and buildings, that caught my eye. The actors in the game are some of the best for that period, I miss real life actors in games, nowadays everything is 3D.

Growing up on Westwood games - Command & Conquer, Tiberian Sun, etc, Dune 2000 makes a nice addition to the collection IMO.

I am playing Planescape: Torment for the first time ever.

If the way I feel about it continues to the end (I think I'm still early in the game) I just might have to change my choice of "Best Game of All Time". I don't even want to talk about it right now since the experience is too powerful to describe.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

It gets better and better as you play, prepare yourself for a massive orgasm. 8-)

Currently on Metal Gear Solid for the PS1, I'm liking it. Can't believe I've never tried the series before.

The Journey Down, short but sweet indie adventure game. Good thing they knocked down the price tag as 10 dollars was a bit much for the game.
Kinda like a Rastafarian Grim Fandango meets Monkey Island.

Not sure when part two is out.

Dune 2000 definitely has some charm, I barely played it but it still triggers the old nostalgia receptors.
