General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Gave Dishonored a brief try after it's been sat in my library since 2013.

Was rather underwhelmed and ended up dropping it a few hours in. The setting they created was interesting and unique, full of neat details and was nice to look at even though it came off at times as too deriative of City 17 (The railcar the police use is basically a 1:1 port of the Combine City Protection APC). The grim nautical vibe was cool and reminded me of a very specific part of English culture that you don't really see evoked that much. Story wise it was a little boring though, it didn't particularly hook me. The Outsider fellow was like G-Man if he was boring and uncreatively sinister, from what little I saw of him.

Gameplay was the real sinker though. For a stealth game it really didn't feel that different to the stealth mechanics in a game not orientated around it, like I was persistently doing the optional stealth path in a normal action game or something. Just very barebones, and it had that annoying modernized immersive sim thing of your character constantly gobbling down tins of food. Gave me flashbacks to Bioshock Infinite in the worst way.

Uninstalled and purchased Resident Evil Remake. Will hit that up next weekend when I have the time.

I rented that game at the Redbox, beat it, and returned it after three days. Good world design. Poor mans Thief.

I'd say I would hope the sequel advanced on the stealth mechanics and made it a more challenging and depthful experience, but that isn't how things work.

The Sequel was better. But I agree the game was always rather more about action than >stealth< really.

However the City 17 stuff is kinda easy to explain. The same guy that did the concept art for City 17 in Half Life worked also on Dishonored.

Far Cry New Dawn for all it's faults is pretty good. I find it funny how people complained that it took place in the same area as Far Cry 5 though. Hope County has a much different aesthetic to it compared to 5's Hope County. It's the same map but it feels new which is the point. Certain areas have been redesigned so much that they're almost unrecognizable which is good if you play both games back to back.

Funny how these same people won't complain about Steelport in Saints Row 4 despite it literally being copy-pasted from Saints Row 3. In fact, I'd say SR4 Steelport is worse because all that's different are the alien towers that replace a few buildings and the big colorful skyscrapers are replaced the generic ones.

New Dawn's upgrading mechanic is pretty good too. It gives a sense of progression and actually encourages you to explore around. I crafted quite a few weapons throughout it and not once did I feel like I was being held back. The game isn't impossible to beat with level 2 or 3 weapons as much as some people would say.

Decided to check the reviews of the Definitive Edition of Age of Empires 3 on Steam and it's apparently a mess. Poor optimization, bugged up the ass and a bunch of dumb changes.

They unironically changed the name of the Colonial Age to Commerce Age. Now, that doesn't sound like a bad thing, until you realize that the game is about the colonization of the Americas, but apparently now people want to avoid that. This just another case of censorship because people are now starting to look back at certain events in history and trying to erase them from public conscience, because fuck learning from past mistakes by never forgetting. Let's just censor everything and bury our heads in the sand.

They also removed basically all progression. In the original version, your city home cards would be unlocked at specific levels. Now they are all unlocked at level 1 and you only unlock customization to your Home City, which is so damn pointless. Progression is basically dead. They only did this so that can people can just jump in into multiplayer without needing to level up their home cities, which in that case makes sense, but why kill it for everyone else that likes to level home cities to unlock more cards? There should be an option for the old progression.

Also, the native civilizations can't mine gold. They basically have the same thing as the Dutch, which is a building that generates coin. Now the Dutchs have lost some of their uniqueness.

I was going to maybe get the definitive edition, but fuck that noise now. This seems like yet another botched Definitive Edition from Forgotten Realms. I still haven't forgotten how atrocious the definitive edition of Age of Mythology is and that shit was released almost five years ago.

At least we now know what the other side must have felt.

I also love it when people use words like cencorship in a wrong context.

Why is it cencorship exactly? It's not like someone errased the history here. You can still get tons of media, books and sources about it if you so want. None of that is touched by this. It's a game after all. Not a history class. Like Age of Empires 3 was historically accurate to begin with? Complaining about this kind of change seems to me more like useless nitpicking and frustration about something that has zero relevance to your day to day live.

What is happening though is that we have a much more criticial view on history today than ever before. Just a few decades ago Columbus and many other historical figures have been seen as heroes and adventurers. Today we know better though. If you really wanted to see a historically accurate Age of Empires 3? I don't think you would like that one either. Considering all the viollence and destruction, torture, raping and complete erradiaction of culture that happend back than. Not to mention slavery.

So I really don't know what people mean when they cry "cencorship" here from a fucking gaming company changing some terminology. Don't tell me anyone of you here plays those games because of the incredible historical value ...

Oh my god you’re so retarded sometimes. All he was doing was making a comment on the climate we’re in right now where we change shit (censor?) so as not to offend some vocal minority snowflakes. Pandering to the lowest common denominator is a pussy ass move.

But there you go, taking a two sentence statement someone makes and making a blog post over it. Classy.

I am sorry if I offended you ... I'll make sure to cencor my posts now so I don't trigger and upset anyone.

I've beaten Mortal Shell last night, and I love it.
Who here has played Mortal Shell?
It's an Action RPG with the similarities of mostly Demon's Souls and Dark Souls.

Supreme Commander Forged Alliance.

Oh, I have a story to tell. I was playing Neverwinter and I spent weeks grinding and busting my ass to get the best gear in the game so I could do the newest and toughest trial. I was doing so well. Even the veteran players who have done and completed the trial were saying I was doing amazing for my first time. I was so completely in the zone. We got the boss to 1/4 health and then, all of a sudden, I get a call from my boyfriend on Steam asking me; "Why do prying mantises eat their mates?" I was like; "What?" and then I perma died. I was so pissed. I was like; "Why would you ask me that?" He was like; "Well I was watching Species and I thought you would know." This is why you don't date younger men. The next day I was in a dungeon run and our cleric, who was also a female, was talking about her husband being a pain in the ass with changing their internet settings. I told her that I had a story to tell to. So I told her what happen and she told me; "Don't you just want to lock them in the bathroom when they do that?" The men in the party were like; "Jesus, you women are the worst."
