General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Why on earth wasn't your boyfriend playing Neverwinter with you?

If my wife was playing an online multiplayer game, I would be there too. :postviper:
He isn't a big fan of MMO's. Plus, he has been playing Halo a lot and wants me to join. I would but I would have to take a few weeks to train myself to be some what decent with the multiplayer. Plus, with co-op he always wants to play and jump right on to Legendary while I need some time to play the campaign so I know the mechanics. I should put some time aside for Halo. Maybe I will do that next week or so.

'Wow this remake seems to have completely deviated from the original artstyle I'm not so sure if this will be-'
'OH MY FUCKING GOD YOU'RE SUCH A FUCKING FAN BOY GIVE IT A CHANCE! JESUS YOU'RE JUST AN ENTITLED LITTLE SHITLORD!'
I reserve the right to question or even shit on any remake or remaster, or really any game that looks, sounds or feels weird. Fuck you.

I love how they changed everything but the gameplay, arguably the only part of demon souls that needed some updating along with the boss battles or god forbid any new content.

Honestly, for years i had this nagging feeling about this game. I remember somewhat enjoying the game when i played it back at release, but i wasn't sure why i didn't liked more than i probably should have. Then i checked that review and suddenly all made sense. A lot of the arguments he makes in that video are stuff that bothered the shit out of me, specially gameplay.

I guess because i enjoyed Bioschock 1 and 2 (this was before i tried System Shock 2, i don't care for the Bioshock games much at all anymore), i was maybe trying to convince myself that Infinite was just as good as those games, or even just good in general. It's not, really. It's a complete mess that falls short on many areas.

Has anybody played Dark Reign: The Future of War? It seems to be almost entirely forgotten aside from some shitty 360 remake.

It never worked on our computer back in the day so I never got to try it. My brothers friend lent it to us.

what the fuck
A couple of days ago, I read an article about "Is Sid Meier's Colonization offensive enough?"
With the author quoting someone else that said:
“A game about colonization that’s entirely about controlling the settlers can either force the player to do horrific things or let him avoid doing it and whitewash some of the worst events of human history. Either option is offensive.”

The author conclusion is that the game is not offensive enough because it lacks slavery.

About as bad as i thought it would be. This is like the fourth definitive edition that they fuck up and take so long to start fixing game breaking stuff. Hell, Age of Mythology Definitive Edition is still ass and they have done next to nothing to fix it, so god knows how long it will take for them to start fixing AOE3 definitive edition. I'm gonna stick with the original version of AOE3 if i ever want to play that game until they fix the definitive edition to actually be the better version.

If these are the devs that are gonna work on AOE4, i'm very worried.

So he isn't a fan of the games you play but want you to play the games he plays? Doesn't seem very fair... >_>
To be fair to him I usually don't play a lot of the games he likes. I usually tend to avoid multiplayer as I don't want to deal with screaming 13 year olds. Neverwinter is usually one of few MMO, multiplayer games I play.

I don't know if this was in the original Demon Souls or not but apparently you don't chose a character based on their sex anymore but on "body types". If you want to play a female character you have to chose Body Type A while males are Body Type B. Is this the future of gaming? Where we no longer acknowledge the existence of men and women or that men and women are psychically and biologically different? Heaven forbid some freak on Twitter or "gaming journalist" gets mad. This is why I refuse to buy a PS5 or any Sony product. Had enough of this shit.

Funny that you guys are talking about Bioshock Infinite being shit as I just recently started Prey and am about halfway through it and wrote this to a friend just an hour ago.

Holy shit. This might be the most underrated big budget title of the decade. All that praise that was given to Bioshock Infinite should be here instead. I still don't get the Bioshock Infinite praise. It handled racism in a very child like manner, it was a very "convoluted" plot that really wasn't and only set up an in game excuse to make more sequels be excusable yet free to explore new realms. (I find such things in storytelling to be sinful as it feels corporate and what I would call "canon selling")

Prey takes everything System Shock 1, 2, Bioshock 1, 2 did and learns from it and expands on it from what I'm seeing. Prey is a game that is a culmination of years of immersive sims and bringing it to the 2010 decade with modern features and expectations while staying true to what makes the genre tick. All in a new intellectual property with good new takes on old ideas. Bioshock Infinite dropped many of the immersive sim teachings in favor of a linear Call of Duty-style game.

Glad to see that I am not the only one who thought this about Bioshock Infinite. My grandparents were a mixed race couple during the early 60's and they suffered racism from both sides. My white grandfathers mother was a horrible racist to my grandmother. To her dying day she treated my grandmother like shit. She would even show favoritism for her white grandchildren over her mixed race ones. My Mexican grandmothers father was no better. He would always call my grandfather a son of a bitch in Spanish, ask him; "What does a white boy like you want with my daughter?" and even chased him out of the house with a loaded shotgun.

The portrayal of racism was so childish from Bioshock Infinite that it could only have come across from out of touch Californians that never venture to places outside of the American West and East Coast. I see this a lot from many white "progressives" here in Washington too. Their views on history and racism is very childish. It's just; "White men bad!" or "White people, am I right?" It is pure cringe.

They could have done something really interesting with Bioshock Infinite and explore a dark time in American history. As well as explore something more interesting going on around that time which was the rise of two ideologies that would bring the world to it's knees and cost the world many lives, the rise of fascism and communism. But they didn't and instead gave us what I can only describe as some SJW's wet dream where we are lectured on the evils of white America.

I hated Bioshock: Infinite for similar reasons regarding the treatment of religion.

I didn't have any problem with the Vox being bad guys either but I thought they'd go more explicitly communist revolutionary.

Yeah, I thought their treatment of religion was weird given that many of the Christian churches were pro-abolitionist and were even stopping points for the Underground Railroad. Again, this comes from a West Coast mindset. The West Coast is one of the least religious places in America. Even the East Coast as Blue as it is still has many people who are religious. Not so with the West Coast. The Pacific Northwest has more non-religious people then religious, while in California the only ones who are very religious is the Latino community. Most Californian whites are non-religious. Even those who are Christians in the West Coast tend to be more "progressive" then Christians in the South or even the East Coast. Due to this, many on the West Coast tend to look down on traditional Christians or even non-West Coast Christians as "backwards" or "bigoted". It is a very close minded and, dare I say, bigoted view. This attitude tends to seep in a lot with entertainment that comes from the West Coast. Almost like they want to lecture the rest of America on how bigoted they are and why they are so much better then the rest of America. It is outright asinine but it is to be expected from those who inhabit the West Coast.

Bioshock Infinite was shit on many fronts. I got the "maybe you just didn't understand the story" comment many times due to my distaste of it. I understood the dimension hopping, I just thought it was stupid.

It's weird saying "West Coast" when the game was produced by 2K Boston a.k.a Irrational Games by a Canadian. Ken Levine is an atheist who has described himself as not understanding religion whatsoever, which is a failure of research and disrespectful to a large portion of his audience. However, attributing it to some sort of "West Coast" attitude is weird.

Particularly among gaming studios.

Bioschock infinite has shit gameplay and shit story that's completely overhyped. Well. I am glad more and more people see it for what it is.

A lot of gaming studios and table top places are from the West Coast. The West Coast is kind of known as the "Geek" capital of the world. Steam, XBox, Nintendo of America, Sony, WoTC, numerous comic cons are all from the West Coast. Look Phipps, I have lived here on the West Coast for almost 30 years. I interact with the people here on a daily basis and live near the infamous Evergreen State College. What I described earlier isn't far off to how most West Coaster think. It saddens me to see the same attitude is prevalent in the East Coast but I guess that is the Coast for you. I don't know what it is but places like Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, New York and Boston seem to bring out the worst in people.
Also, many Canadians from places like Vancouver, Quebec and Toronto have a similar mindset to many people on the Coast. Again, the big cities really bring out the worst in people.
