General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Trump has went too far.

I'm honestly starting to dislike just how spacious Witcher 3's world. I'm enjoying a lot of the quests, the writing, the characters and even the combat to an extent (it does devolve into flipping around like a ballerina), but holy shit the world didn't need to be this big.

I don't mind a lot of the locations being monster's nests, guarded treasures, bandit camps and so on, not every location is meant to be special and filled with content. But there's a lot of dead space, where you just basically running in a straight line to your next location without encountering anything or anyone, and it's exhausting. It feels it's like this because Skyrim was big as well, when being too big was a problem in Skyrim as well. If Witcher 3's world was shrunken down, it would have been more enjoyable to me.

An update on this, finished the base game and the expansions. I pretty much agree with everyone that claims the expansions are better than the main game. Better writting, better characters, better pacing, better quests and so on, and it doesn't have the bloat of the main game.

Not saying that the main game doesn't have good writing, good characters, or good quests, but it's bloated to shit. Way too many characters, meaning a lot of them hardly get any development, and the second and third map are just too spacious with far too much land, further making the main quest feel even bigger than it has any right to be.

Maybe i'm just tired of these big, empty open worlds that are only big some people think bigger means better in terms of world space, but i'll take a medium sized, compact world over any of big open world that devs seem to have become fond of since Skyrim was released. Makes the overall experience much better paced in my opinion.

And going back to the expansions thing, i honestly put Blood and Wine as one of the greatest expansions ever made. Everything in it is top notch.

Playing Planescape of late.

I much prefer Witcher 1 to either sequel; they discarded most of what I liked about the mechanics in favor of the then (and still) current fads. :( Witcher 1 was superb.

One was that the game skips the insignificant travel hassle, and just resumes where the events pick up.

*I have owned W3 since day 1 release, and have not played more than 20 minutes. :(
It seemed even further from Witcher 1 than Witcher 2; got bored with Witcher 2, and its —so out of character— Geralt.

Pics below. Hopefully not too big.

Okay. So I've nabbed and played Cyberpunk 2077 for around, hmmm, 31 hours now.

I like it, once you get to Act 2, and the world can be driven around in. Shooting goons up and just vibin' while scootin' around with the a, it's fine.

Story wise, it does feel deep, but I fear it's all gonna ring hollow. Losing yourself, being subsumed, maybe even tying it to dementia and alzhemiers and all that, that hits me personally, but I dunno. And the Anti-Corpo talk is laughable. Like, Johnny, you lost this fight before you were even born, much less V.

Lots of bugs. let me preface this with, I don't really get bugs. I get crashes, sure. But even Fallout New Vegas would crash, or a save would fail. And it's not like every single minute of CB2077 is bug laden. Just that they happen frequently and they're noticeable but nothing that breaks the game. I try to parkour a lot on foot, so I often get flung dozens of meters due to some map collision or mesh collision or whatever. Funny most of the time. Broken stretched out bodies. A few lines of dialogue got skipped in a quest once.

But nothing major.

Honestly I just want more to do in the city than kill gangbangers. It's fun. But CB2077 should dig into it and flesh out the world more. Right now it's kill, scoot, sell, scoot, kill, etc.... It's a fine pastime, but it could be more. I want more corporate espionage and movement. I want more nomad politics. Hell, I want more shit outside of NC, and inside of it, too. Half the map is empty (I include the BIotechnica flats for this) and underutilized.

Also can they turn down the fucking bloom? Fuck. And it would be nice if the stores had double their stock. Can't find a look readily well.

Add: more dialogue would be nice, too. Even little things like a proper goodbye to storekeeps. 2077 NC might be a shitty hellhole and V might be an ass but still.

I'm playing System Shock 1 and this time I'm going to finish it!
Defeated Shodan today and I have now completed System Shock 1 for the first time! I begun back in early December and as you can probably tell I don't have that much time for gaming these days.
But it feels damn good to have finished it! Especially since there's a remaster coming. It will feel much better playing the remaster now that I have first hand experience of the original.

I would definitely recommend anyone to try it out for themselves. It's a very feature rich immersive sim and if you like that type of gameplay you will very much enjoy this. I would guess that the graphics and the clunky interface is what turns people off but I now know that you get used to it quite quickly. Mandalore Gaming has a very good introduction to the interface and controls in his review. I used that as a starting point to approach the game. There's also this very good walk-through on steam that tells you what you need to do without any spoilers (sort of). There's no quest log so you either keep track of everything yourself or you can look for stuff in walk-throughs. I mean it's already there in your data reader anyway.

The story was great but the ending felt very anticlimactic since the end boss fight wasn't that much of a fight. Also I thought this game would be scary since System Shock 2 is but that's not the case at all.

10/10!

Hell yeah. Glad you enjoyed it. One of my favorite immersive sim games. Did you use the Enhanced Edition?

NORZAN PLEASE QUIT HATING THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO BE POPULAR. THEY ARE POPULAR THEREFORE THEY CANNOT BE BAD. SHUT THE FUCK UP AND CONSOOOOOOOOOM.

I'm continuing with another classic that I never played - Deus Ex! Here's a great guide if you want to get the steam version going. I had problems with low resolution before extracting that updated .exe into the games folder.
