General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Did something get deleted that started this? What is happening right now fam.....
How is it? I might just put another JRPG on my backlog.
I just got done with the demo and then decided to buy the main game. Gameplay and especially world design are a major step up atleast on the demo. Switch is still downloading the main game. Pretty sure this is gonna be a favorite though.

Never got into the first one because of the timed upgrade element on 3DS, but I always saw everyone talking about the class system being fun, seems similar to the class system in DQ IX that had weird stuff like stage magicians and stuff.

Being able to switch up "jobs" like from wizard to assassin is more fun than I thought it'd be. Played the 1st one when it came out and skipped the others until this one. Also bought Jet Set Radio on Steam so I'll be busy with these for awhile :postviper:

I'm not really a Dark Souls fan, I tried the games and I know why People like them, but alas, they aren't for me.

I've been playing No Man's Sky a lot however. I kind of just want something that's nice and chill for now as I listen to more podcasts and YouTube videos, so No Man's Sky work well with that.

Other than that, I'm not really playing anything.
I tend to go into the Yakuza remake and just play darts and snooker by myself however, it's kinda sad, but hey, isn't life?

Edit. There's only one way to solve conflict in these places.

BATTLES 2021!!!

I was on that boat until I played Bloodborne, that is like the gateway to the Souls series.

I tried that one too, admittedly it's the best of the ones I played, but even then it still didn't grab me 100%.

I don't think I'm really into that whole "We're gonna make this game extremely difficult" genre. I've tried my fair share, they aren't for me, but I can see why others like them.

I'm just not that good at hard games, hell, I suck at easy games, Spider-man for the PS1 still kicks my ass on easy mode, I turn that stuff to Kid Mode

Understandable.
Dark Souls 2 is the one making me not enjoy the challenge so far, like that game straight up just becomes absolutely no fun at points, apparently it was deemed to easy when it came out so they made a new version that replaced the old one that has all the nuance and craft of a shitty mod. There is a map where they just put a line of enemies that explode with a mist that breaks your shit. It's just fucking retarded.

I just remembered Neo The World Ends with you is also coming out this year.
And fairly soon as well...

DS gameplay is great, but the difficulty is just too much for me. Would be nice if there were more to the games than just going from one battle arena to the next.

I'm thinking I should try and finish sonic adventure 2, I did the first in a few days and while it was frustrating, it was rather fun.

Sonic adventure 2 however just feels like a step back. I miss the small hub world.

Also thinking I should carry on with my Mass Effect character. The remaster looks pretty lackluster, so it appears I'm going to be sticking to the PS3 version for the time being.

Sonic '06 was actually a lot of fun.
Hissssssss!

Remnant From the Ashes is a good game if you like soulsborne games. Maps and bosses are randomized for each play through, so its RNG if you're looking for a building a specific build. But you can re-roll your world if you're looking for specific items.

That might be ... but your comment at him just came out of the blue. He wasn't even quoting you. I just don't see why you had to explode like that.
It's called amphetamines and staying up for days. It makes you unhinged.

I really hate that this got marketed and meme'd so hard. The games weren't extremely difficult but sometimes just a bit confusing because they tell you hardly anything. Like in Dark Souls 1, if you quit at the gargoyles it was probably because you hadn't upgraded your weapon. How do you know it's a good time to upgrade them? Is it worth it? Who knows! But that part is there to show you that upgrading equipment is pretty important. Miyazaki even said the games were only difficult enough to give you a sense of accomplishment but not hard enough to be frustrating.

The time of release of these games coming out now or 5 years earlier than they did would have vastly changed the public perspective on their difficulty in my opinion. Only at the height of the PS3 and Xbox 360 would a game be so revered for "being old school hard" when it really wasn't.

This isn't a brag saying I never struggled in these games but that I really think people overplay how hard they are. Some of these bosses are balls to wall hard while most, usually the story required ones, are mostly easy. And if you play these games before the servers die, you can get real life people to assist you. And even if you're offline, most of the tough bosses have 1-2 NPCs to summon which can make the fight a good bit easier. And no, it's not cheating, it's in the game. I tried to not use them as much as possible but I ended up doing it for a few fights throughout the series.

I mean they are harder than most modern games, that's were a lot of the fun comes from. But they are hard in a fair way (except DS2), they aren't weirdo Kaizo like challenges or fights that take you hours to beat because the enemies are sponges but the game punish carelessness so you have to be careful when playing and newbies can get very understandably overwhelmed.

I remember DS1 kicking my ass back in 2014, and then at one point something clicked and I never really had significant trouble with any of the games after that. The sole exception being Orphan of Kos in the Old Hunters, which I think to this day is probably the angriest I've ever gotten at a game. First attempt on him I got him down to such low health you couldn't even see the red on his HP bar anymore, and then I got unlucky and got one-shotted. Every attempt after that was just worse and worse until I bitched out and summoned.

The Dark Souls games aren't hard, per se, but they're just unforgiving of mistakes. Mastery of the Souls games is pretty simple pattern recognition that becomes second nature at a certain point, and the similarity of all the games means it translates across titles. Rarely have I ever had to actually think much during a fight in a Souls game, it's mostly just reflexes/muscle memory playing simon says with certain styles of attacks. It's one of the reasons that whilst I greatly enjoy the Bloodborne and DS3 bosses, I actually prefer having gimmicky bosses like Demon Souls just because all the high-powered anime battles end up at their core being the same exercise in the same pattern recognition. I don't think Souls combat is bad by any means, and I love the games to death, but the combat is pretty thoughtless. If you put the Souls combat in a Superhot style non-setting, I wouldn't play it. The worldbuilding, atmosphere, presentation, music, characters etc etc is what I stick around those games for.
