General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Actually talking about the Borderlands games actually made me realize that I am pretty done with the series now.
I have no interest in playing Borderlands 3 and its DLCs, or the old games again.
Same here. I think i'm permanently burned out from the series, because since i have been done with the Pre-Sequel in 2015 i have had no motivation to ever replay any of the games i played.

I think the issue for me is that the series is a one trick pony. Wacky humor coming from wacky characters and the claim of gazillions of guns (which 98% are worthless and just junk to sell for money), with no deviation from this whatsoever. Which i guess is fine for people that only care for these things (and i'm a fan of franchises like Dragon Quest which don't deviate much from the established formula), but for me this got tiring and grating after a while to the point i don't want to play the series anymore.

And this is a minor issue, but i'm kind of getting tired of every game in the series using the cel-shaded style. I think using different styles or at least greatly updating the style they are using would help alleviate the feeling of stagnation that the series has fallen into.

Example. Grim Dawn was made since Diablo and Blizzard sucks. I still need to beat it.
Got over 4000 hours spread over nearly 6 years of playing. Becoming a beta tester in 2017 did helped greatly inflate my playtime because i was helping beta test the game.

And yeah, this is far better than Diablo 3.

That sucks because if I tried to play with you I would be a slow retard trying to figure stuff out. Titan Quest is ok but I think Grim Dawn probably is a better game.

I went back to Titan Quest after playing a lot of Grim Dawn and it feels so much worse to play to me. Plus no devotion system or anything similar (which i guess is a plus if some don't like but i love the devotion system or any system that can supplement the main mechanic of the game in a positive way), not being able to put relics on epics and legendaries and missing a bunch of quality of life stuff from Grim Dawn (they did add a few in recent times, but still missing quite a few). I do like the speed up option, which is something i think Grim Dawn should have as well.

But yeah, Grim Dawn is the much better game in my opinion. I do have a soft spot for Titan Quest since i played it back at release in 2006 and i still think Immortal Throne is one of the best expansions ever made (cannot say the same for the expansions the new devs made for the game since 2017).

I have not beat Atlantis yet and the newest expansion is way too high priced for what it is. Grim Dawn is clearly the new version of what TQ was bringing to the table.

How tf do you all find this time for games :look:

Anyways, I beat Borderlands 1 nine times over the years. I liked it by myself, played it with my dad and was a big game with boyfriends. Best fps couch co-op. Better than Halo, better than Timesplitters and better than the other game I don’t remember.

I like Timesplitters better.

I still like it but the gameplay and replayability isn't as good. Great for 1 or 2 playthroughs. The camera forcing my crosshair into the middle of the screen was definitely... a unique choice. Outside of n64 era at least.

I don't guess we'll ever get another one.

I like Timesplitters better.

I really liked Timesplitters Future Perfect's single player campaign. Cortez for the win.
Some of the humor really made me think of the Secret of Monkey Island's style of humor.
I wish there had been a PC port at the time as I would like to play this game again with a keyboard and mouse.

Such a damn shame that the studio making it had to sell to the studio that made Crysis.

The only thing that could perhaps make me install and play Borderlands 2 one more time is the DLC I mentioned; Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary as I liked the themes of the DLC and I liked the main villain Hector, a serious sane villain for a change who actually notices all the ridiculousness around him.
But once I have finished that DLC I will not touch BL2 or the other games again.
And even then it is the question if I really want to go through some of those bland maps.

That is the thing, it is a one trick pony.
You may play it the first time for the campaign, but should you want to play it again you really need some friends so you can at least do some farting around to make each other laugh.
And a lot of the humor really did not work for me, again because I can not care about the characters.

And this is a minor issue, but i'm kind of getting tired of every game in the series using the cel-shaded style. I think using different styles or at least greatly updating the style they are using would help alleviate the feeling of stagnation that the series has fallen into.

I have no problem with cell shaded graphics but I can understand your feelings that the designers should try out something else with the graphics.
A lot of fans probably will complain about that this style is an essential part of Borderlands even if you come with something just as good.

Like how some of the Zelda OoT/MM's people hated the graphics of Zelda The Wind Waker after they had seen that trailers years ago of somewhat realistic Link fighting Ganon.

I am trying to think of a game series in which I liked it that the graphic style was changed.
Well I liked how Metroid Prime went with a West reimagined style of the Metroid world.
As it was a spin off it did not affect the main series.
Rather I was disappointed with the 3D models the main series handles since Metroid Samus Returns as I find a lot of the models very ugly and I find that sprite art has more characters.

I am trying to find the video but I remember last year a fan making a Sonic game completely in the style of the graphics of the cartoon intro and outro of Sonic CD, it looked very good.
What if designers did something like that with Metroid?

Hello all,

I just finished Strider 2014 again. I was really in the mood again to play that game after playing the Metroid games and Bionic Commando.

While I like the arcade games (Strider 1 & 2) I do think it was a good decision by Capcom and the developers to make this title a Metroidvania style game.
Some people here may know that Strider on the NES was a sort of early Metroid style game.
Unfortunate the game was not properly finished, I think it was even intended to be canceled as it did not receive a release in Japan, as the developers did not fine tune the controls which makes performing some actions like the triple jump very difficult.

Who know how different gaming history could have been if the NES version had been properly finished.
Perhaps instead of Metroidvania, the genre these two games established might have been called Metroidstridervania instead.

A contact of mine told me that Capcom has registered the name again, perhaps suggesting that Capcom might release a new Strider game.
I doubt it though. I think Capcom just registered the name to ensure that no other company can make a game with the same name, or the titles of other games Capcom has registered again, to prevent customers from actually thinking that this may be a new Capcom Strider title.
It is pretty common with game publisher to re register their titles again once the old registration is about to expire.

Such a shame that Capcom is just sitting on these titles. Occasionally re-releasing the old titles but not interested in making new games with these old IPs.

I have also been replaying Iron Brigade again, formerly known as Trenched.
It is a tower defense game but the player also controls an active unit that can participate in fighting the wave of enemies.

Part of what I really like about Iron Brigade is the style and the atmosphere.
Iron Brigade is a what-if alternative timeline game involving bipedal mechs being developed after World War 1 (so the aesthetics and designs are early 20th century/WW1) as well as television.
It is explained in the background story.

It is really fun to control a WW1 style mech and having to fight TV creatures, called monovision in this universe.

During the game players can choose what kind of gameplay style they want to play, fighting the enemies directly but only being able to deploy a few attack and support towers, or instead focus on deploying towers but controlling a weaker mech.

Throughout the levels the player can pick up look boxes with new weapons, mech parts, new towers, or clothes for your character (the player can have an avatar but most of the time he is just sitting in the mech.
Only between levels does the player get to control the character directly.

The game's story doesn't take itself too seriously which only adds to the charm.
The main antagonist is a bit of a Russian stereotype, complete with impressive beard and mustache but there is definitely no insult intended to Russians.

Iron Brigade is a fun game but I really think it is best played with breaks between sessions as the gameplay can get repetitive after a while, especially when you start to grind in order to be able to buy better gear in the shop or acquire XP to raise your level so you can use higher level gear.

Edit: this game is probably most enjoyable with friends, with some focusing on fighting the enemies while others focus on deploying attack and support towers.
I should find some people who want to play with me.

Well now that I have completed Strider 2014 I am going back to Bionic Commando Rearmed 2.
After that its Red Alert 3 and its expansion Uprising and I also have some Castlevania games I have yet to finish (Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Symphony of the Night)

Me staying up until 1 am to see what the Capcom countdown was for

Never trust Capcom. They will usually do anything they can that is scummy or just aimed at making more money while alienating the hardcore fanbase.

The funny thing is Capcom has always been shitty but somehow they got a pass because they managed to still make good games.

Wow, Capcom disappoints its fanbase, how surprising!

In general a pretty uninteresting news announcement by Capcom.
A new Street Fighter game may excite SF fans though Capcom is probably going to milk this dry.
And a compilation of its old fighting games and some spin off puzzle game. The fighting games will probably excite fans but what fan base is there actually for the puzzle spin off?

Perhaps Infune was making a mess of things when he wanted Western developers to try their hands on classic Capcom IPs or create new ones, but at least Capcom was doing something more than just the so many time new entry of Resident Evil, Street Fighter, or Monster Hunter.
Capcom could at least have some Japanese teams continue their other IPs in smaller budget release format.
Okay, old rant. I will shut up now

Yeah, most the goodwill towards Capcom is from its Arcade, NES, SNES, and Playstation years, but you would think that this good will would run dry by now.

Anyway, I am finally getting the hang of BC rearmed's controls.
Still not as smooth as the ones from 1 but they work.

They didn't do anything scummy, I simply don't care for Street Fighter and we kinda already knew they were making a 6th one this year so the week long countdown leading up to it was disappointing, specially because the font style looked more like it was gonna be something Resident Evil related.

Capcom is scummy in general. They don't even make games for their hardcore Resident Evil fans they make them for all the anime fags.

Hey guys,
This is somewhat gaming related so I hope people won't mind that I post this here but I need some help with selecting a new video card around which I want to build a new PC.

I have been following a Dutch tech site called Tweakers on updates of the prices of various video card.
They were quite expensive at the start of the year because of bit coin mining but now prices are going down and I think I should make ready to choose a good card.
Problem is that I am not that technical so I do not know which card is now the best choice, and not all card have a user review that tells about the pros and the cons of each card.

I would like to go for a 3070 TI (3080 is still too expensive, 3090 is out of my league) but I have added a separate link for 3060 TI cards as well.

The site itself is Dutch but the technical specs should be understandable for anyone who knows about these.
