General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

I finished Call of Duty 4 yesterday. A bit too short but a great shooter. Awesome graphics and some pretty hard missions. POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD! The Chernobyl-mission was just awesome. That's what STALKER should've looked like in the first place. CoD4 is also the first game I know that actually lets you die in a nuclear explosion. You move in slow motion, still numb from the helicopter crash, the environment looks pretty much like the depiction of hell in the "Constantine" movie, you see the huge mushroom cloud lurking in the distance and then the blast wave kicks in. A-w-e-s-o-m-e.

You're going to adore Fallout 3 then
Heh, I don't think so... the nuke in CoD4 was awesome in a realistic way, not like "OMFGLOL Nuke-Launcher IN YORE FACE FTW!". Fallout 3, judging by screenshots and videos, doesn't even nearly look as good as that game.

But yeah, the 'all ghillied up" sequence was great.
Indeed, but waiting for the chopper to pick you up while MASSES of enemies rushing in on you was overkill. I don't know how many hours I tried to survive the onslaught before I decided to hide in one of the ticket booths near the ferris wheel hoping that none of the thousand grenades thrown at me actually manages to get through the door. After three unsuccessful tries I actually managed to wait for the chopper, get out of the booth without getting ripped to pieces by grenades or shred to pieces by bullets, pick up my crippled comrade and get to the chopper alive. Other than that, I loved the mission.

P.S.: I played on second hardest difficulty.

I intend to attempt X-Com, but the manual is so wacky.

This organization would be equipped with the world's finest pilots, soldiers, scientist and engineers, working together as one multi-national force.

The soldier fires a shot... and misses. This is unfortunate, but is expected - initially your soldiers are all rookies.

All right, which secret project is hogging all the trained crack ninja Spetsnaz troops?

X-com is definitely worth it. One of the few games that at times caused me to jumped out of my chair.

I remember while playing it, I was married to my first wife, who was over a foot shorter, and 90 lbs lighter.

I was holding her while asleep, had an X-com dream, and almost tossed her off the bed in defense.

Really, really weird.

On topic, I'm playing Phantasmagoria.

Another creepy game, especially with the child "ghost" slowly beginning to start crying in the nursery.

Ha, what difficulty did you play? "Don't hurt me, I'm a whiny little wimp"?
And yes, I think CoD4 managed a better depiction of Prypyat.

Anyway, back to playing Kotor again. And The Witcher arrived today.

P.S. I also started Albion but didn't get far yet. I don't have enough time...

Play through it on veteran and tell me it's easy.

Recruit: Suitable for preteen girls.
Regular: Still too easy.
Hardened: Average difficulty, enemies can actually kill you now.
Veteran: Hard. Not quite halo on legendary, but a real challenge.

I'm triple-A at shooters, but the epilogue mission is particular is nigh impossible on vet (took ~20 tries).

Don't kow...you didn't say what kind of dificulty you were playing on....and if you find it difficult you could try the "Don't hurt me, I'm a whiny little wimp" and stop complaining about the games difficulty

well...it's your opinion so ...

Thats actually bad because The Witcher Enhanced is coming out in a few weeks and it's a polished version of the original game !

All of this CoD4 talk has inspired me to run through it again.

Pretty much agree. I think the only time it'd get too awful is if you don't realize the makers of this game are fucking retarded and don't realize that people don't materialize out of fucking thin fucking air.

whoooppsss...sorry buxxyyy...i didn't read the second post...my failure.

@nex

I didn't realize that at first. I had dropped ~50 guys and was almost out of ammo in the beginning of 'charlie don't surf' before I noticed that the enemies/friendly AI were endlessly respawning.

Twas my one big gripe with the game.

Ah, The Witcher. Great game but it might have some less-than-good thingies. Well, depending on whether you like 'em or not. For example, some parts of the game, especially side quests, make you feel like you're playing a single-player MMORPG.

But the atmosphere, the story, the music, the characters, the world; all that stuff is brilliantly done. I really like how often the choices you make aren't good, nor bad. Just like the world, with old hags standing next to the road and spouting sentences like 'Oooh I don't think I'll make the next day...oooh'. You very often end up doing what you think is right, while it's often just a matter of perspective deciding the right/wrong stuff.

I just like the fact that you can't save everybody. People will die and you will be responsible.

Yeah, I read that news the day it arrived when I was looking for patches. I think it's a rip-off to release a "polished" version of basically the same game. Why not make it right in the first place? Or at least offer a patch for buyers of the original game? That sucks.

It's supposed to be free for people that bought the original version.

Buxbaum666 said:
Hmm, I didn't read that anywhere... if that's the case, I revert my statement, of course.
It's free for the people who have registered their game.If your copy is a second hand then you might wanna check out wether it has already been registered or not .
