General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

NWN OC, yes I'm so bored. Why do Bioware insist on dumping you straight into the main life or death plot and then bombarding you with generic sidequests. The only game this has really work for was KotOR, mainly because the main plot wasn't really life or death (until the endgame at least).

I'm right at the end of the first chapter and I'm literally forcing myself to play it for the feel of completionism and not, because the story, combat, or exploration are interesting. It's hard when the combat difficulty has the tendency to swing from pathetically easy to practically impossible.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Same here, I'm about two thirds of the way through the second chapter and it's been a real slog. There are some really stupid areas with ho hum easy cannon fodder but a ridiculously difficult (compared) boss. And the strangest quests linked to the main quest, I'm playing my usual Paladin and turned down some quests initially since they'd be out of character. But then having to go do them because I can't find anything else to move the plot forward.

Just downloaded World of Goo because of this weekend 's Steam bargain, and while i'm not at all into puzzles usually, i must say i'm really pleased with it.

Different atmosphere, coherent aesthetics, great care put on music... Plus those physics elements are really surprising and fun. Sometimes you feel like a lil' kid observing and discovering the laws of physics. Very refreshing.

Call of Juarez.
I got finished with Red Dead Revolver and wanted another western so this one looked good enough.
It's a decent game, your weapons degrade which is an interesting touch, and Concentration mode is absolutely bad ass, not to mention that the Preacher Ray is hardcore as hell.

Spitting out condemning quotes from the bible in your left hand while shooting outlaws in the head with a six-shooter in the other? Awesome.

Right now I'm finishing Fallout for... I don't know which time, I wasn't counting. Finishing some quests in Fallout 3 and playing Puzzle Quest - it's really different from the other games. In a good way.

I've bee horribly addicted to Team Fortress 2 and Killzone 2, with healthy dosages of NHL 09, Little Big Planet and MGS4.

Just finished Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II campaign and I must say I enjoyed it immensely!

Playing Red Alert 3 and finding it somewhat... Lacking. Not sure why.

Think I'll switch to F.E.A.R. 2 next.

Finally got around to playing Assassin's Creed.

The sidequests are repetitive and generally crappy, but the dicking-around-on-rooftops aspect is awesome. I also like the game's character art direction ("plausible" armor and clothing, sheaths, no weapons hanging on actors without attach points) coupled with purty DX10 graphics. The combat is average-to-meh, although some of the combo move animations are pretty frickin' cool.

And nothing beats using the "gentle push" move on a guard standing on a ledge six stories high.

Yup, the DX10 version looks wwaaaaayyy better than the console versions. i played it on my pc before my GPU got toasted. looked awesome!
one thing i also loved about the game was that the cities really felt alive. and boy, were those god damned beggars annoying! wanted to spend an entire playthrough just to kill those fuckers for fun!

Throwing people is also fun. Beggars, lepers, preachers... The most fun is with guards. Off roofs.

"You aren't allowed to be heeEEEAAAAARGH-"

*splat*

...

- (voice from below) "Oh my God, who did this!"

That game had a lot of potential. Basically, if it didn't pretend to have a story and just let you run around and fuck shit up it would be a hundred times better.
