Good PC Builds

Some people say, in typical Nvidia fashion, they will release either this year or next year a card with more performance. Like 1180Titan or what ever.
Nvidia, Nvidia never changes. I am not an AMD fanboy, but god help us all, if they would dissapear from the market.

Obviously, if you're buying hardware at release, you're an idiot - sorry! It was always like that, beit Nvidia, AMD, ATI, Intell. Is it really that hard to wait for unbiased reviews and independed tests? Those usually don't take that long.

Well when people see the "supposedly" good results like this before they even release, everyone with a raging new latest tech boner runs out to get it. I like to wait before I buy.

Fukken lol'd.

So, it will be eventually an AMD for me, once they release their new GPUs, if the price is right. Fuck NVIDA I am not going to spend 700+ euros on something that will be surpased again in 6 or 9 months when they release an upgraded version of the 1080 with 30% more performance.

1080 is for people who have fuckloads of money and want the best currently available and 1070 is probably a good choice for VR. For us 1080p resolution folk these are overkill cards (the same way amd Vega will be in the fall of this year) and the best bang for buck solutions are usually in the mid/low range:

So best to wait for polaris 10/11 and pascal 1060/1050.

As a proponent of open source drivers though, i only have one choice, so i sure hope amd doesn't screw this up with polaris.

Well, this is very interesting... Amd just announced that their RX 480 gpu will go for 200$ and it could potentially be near the performance level of a nvidia 980. So they are going after the mainstream market hard, this could be the best bang for buck gpu of this generation. Will be interesting to see the benchmarks when the card launches at June 29th.

basically, fury nano* with $199 price label.

i'll buy it :)

so

$199, 5TFLOPs, 8GB GDDR5, 1.08GHz (boost clock), 150W

*even if fury nano got HBM, the final output basically samey

Well that remains to be seen, but it should definitely be in the vicinity of that card. It's also unclear if the 199$ version will have 8gb, or 4gb. I will withhold my enthusiasm until we get the benchmarks, but if it turns out good, this will probably be my next card.

Also interesting that even though it's 150w tdp (same as nvidia's 1070), Amd's Raja Koduri said in that video that it runs very cool. Since a radeon HD 7870 was rated at 175w tdp, but in reality used only 115w at max, the RX 480 probably does not go anywhere near 150w consumption.

anyone here have experience with watercooling?

oh. and this is the information that gathered comes from the livestream

RX 480 Album

  • The RX 480 is designed to run premium games like Battlefield 1 and DOOM at ultra quality (@60FPS).
  • About the last screen grab, Raja explains that the GPU utilization (currently very low at 51%) will be improved through driver optimization.
  • A crossfire solution is far from perfect in my opinion, but it's reasonable to expect better performance than a GTX1080 for under 500$.
  • It appears that there will be a 4GB version of the 480, and an 8GB version. 4GB starting at $199.
  • Radeon RX GPUs in the $100-300 target, on shelf June 29th.
New AMD A9 APU Album

  • 'Tremendous' value for sub $399 with A9 APUs.
  • New A9 chips bring 50% performance improvements and 40% graphics improvements over previous editions.
  • Much more will be announced over the next few months as Zen prepares for launch.
New Zen CPUs

  • 16 threads, 8 cores, 40% higher IPC and still early testing. Oh hell YES
  • Server variants of Zen incoming
  • The next generation of APUs will include Zen processors and next-gen graphics.

Has it been cleared if the 40% instructions per clock gain is over "excavator", or some of the earlier bulldozer architectures like "piledriver"?

Some new leaked benchmarks (not sure how reliable though):

Seems like the new 199$ amd card might just beat the GTX 980.

Angry Birds :DDD and the graph is divided by 0.2 fps increments! Come on now eissa, this is not serious i hope.
Dead wrong

it is increased by 1 fps and what could be more groundbreaking than a yesterday 699 dollar card beaten by 200 dollar card? :P

I think it was a joke picture.

Anyway, can't wait for the NDA to end so we could finally see some reliable benchmarks on the 480.
