Hey, very good, very good. How did you do the skin re-colouring? Did you do it manually (by pixel-editing the colour of the long-haired head and pasting it onto the black frames) or by colour replacement?

Mr wolna had a great idea to try to do an automated colour replacement on the hero model to replace his 'caucasian' skin colours with 'black' skin colours. I tried, but failed. Maybe you can do it? If you can find a way via colour replacement you can set Photoshop to automate the process, (i can show you if you don't know how) meaning it can do all the hero frames in a matter of hours! The final result - a set of black hero FRM's people can copy in to play a black guy! Cool! :)

As regards the 'hippie hero', here's the deal:

For every FRM you (or anyone else) do, i'll match it by doing an equal number - basicly i'll do 50% of the work, but no more ;)

Just apply the same solutions they did: Coat of arms on shoulderpads, chest or any other prominent space (wich you kinda already did with flags and stars), then you can go for custom helmet markings/colors and, if it can be done, stuff like the japanese flags carried on the back of there armor, maybe other prominent parts of the armor in different colors like boots or hands or something...
I like the idea of the japanese flag! Sadly i have no skill in graphic or whatever... I can just copy things from other and paste it...
I was thinking about the Children of the cathedral logo maybe...

I did the frame some months ago, along with the old white head overseer, and some other experiments. I had to abandon them cause it was too much time consuming compared to color transposition.
But If we had to do the Hippie with Josan, then we also could do the blond guy. Basicly you just have to copy past one head, save, then copy past the blond head at the same place. I have always thougt the longest part of the operation was to open the file...
But maybe i will do the 24 important files for them one day..


About the skin coloration, the body come from the black frame, and the head comes from this fellow

I obtain that by... reducing the light! (who would have thought...)
Should be possible to do the same with toshop. I reduced the light for the red and yellow range. The pb with this methode is that you still have to remove manually some orange imperfection :

So, maybe we could obtain a better result with manual selection. But I never really looked into the pb thought.
I might give it a try next we.

About the Hippy guy...how shall we work? I find it easier to work on all the different models at the same time. First because all the AA of the models have the same routine, and second coz it's less boring...
And in the cas we don't go throught all the weapon animation, at least we would have a new companion.
what do you say?

I have already done all the AA for the leather, I am working on the metal armor, so it's your turn now :P

Yes, i tried manual selection - basicly i selected all the caucasian skin tones, saved them to memory, and set PS to replace them with black skin tones taken from the black guy. Unfortunately some armours (LTHR being the worst offender) have too many of the caucasian skin tones in the clothing and so screw the whole process up. Some armours can be automated, however. But i really like your long haired black dude. The problem with him is there are only METL and JMPS animations for the black guy. Does anyone know if the black character has all weapons animations? If he does, it would be possible to create a black hero (long or short hair) If he doesn't, i think it would be near-impossible.

Took me about 10 mins to do these. I'll so the SW, W and NW views tommorow.

So the challenge is on: for every animation you do, i'll match it!. This also applies to anyone who wants to help out, and be able to play FO with a long haired hippy!. The more people that help out, the more likely this will get done.
 
I really would love to help, but at the moment I am done with critters. :( I worked nearly 2 weeks nonstop only on recoloring critters and it was so damn much work... I need a break first.

A black player character would be pretty cool. I have great ideas for using this (but with short hair - long hair looks too much like jamaica, heh). Long hair-dude also is pretty cool, but just a bit of a cosmetic thing, imo.

Time consuming yes, but not impossible. I think I know how the dev did it; by reducing the light, as I assumed.
But for the leather armor, and the black jacket, there is this little orange mark that screw the frame. Thats why they only do the models where the arms where hidden (even the metal armor had some brace to hide the orange).
you have to rework (2 colors you need to select and rereduce the light)

BTW, whichprogramm do you use to create gif? I keep changing from shareware to shareware, but I can't get one work correctly.

But I should get back to work on the metal armor.

Well, theoretically, yes. But as i said i was unable to do it due to the colours conflicting.

Hmmm. I don't think so. I would assume they created the black guy the way they created all the other critters - using 3D modeling.

I use Frameanimator to compile and decompile the FRM's. I use this:

Maybe. But again, one of this fellow was white before...Can someone guess which one is the vanilla one? :D




So I think it should be possible to complete the missing frame starting from the white hero frame.

But more important, I have done AA and AB for the Metal, and AB for the leather. We are allowed to reverse the frames right?
Any special difficulties concerning that?
I think i am gonna try 2 per day, concentring myself on leather and metal. I check up with you next sunday.
 
Hey Lexx I just look at that pic and done this

Don't know if you looked for something like this unfortunatly I can't animate and create textures for it (in the near future) but if you like it I can export it to obj and sent you.
 
Hey, pretty cool. But I think it needs more or better fur. :)


I for myself also can not make animations. :/ That means.. sure, I can, but it will look very bad because I don't have the time for "deeper actions" and creating new good looking animations is a hell of a job too.
 
Yeh, that's what I mean. A bit more darker, maybe a bit like the brahmin or so. :)
 
I really do hope this incredible work filters its way over to the megamod/restoration project or the ornery bastards over at Fonline. I would love it if you had a little bit more choice in terms of the external appearance of the PC.

Well, actually, i do some frm for the leather armor dude from time to time.
If you are interested in helping, maybe you could start with the gun animation?
then by tricking a little the death animation, we could have a new npc...
