It's funny how a discussion started as "Does Gun Control Work?" and moved on to "No. Are Liberals idiots for insisting it totally does?" and then was morphed into "Are those evil alt-right neo nazis just strawmanning the poor helpless defenceless left?".
What even is the conversation right now, an irrelevant "Whose weapons are cooler, the common man's or the military's?" dick-measuring contest? I'm guessing someone played the "But common men with commoner guns can't defend themselves against a full scale armed invasion of USA troops on US soil! Hillbilly Hicks with Shotguns can't beat Tanks!" card, even though the US can't use tanks or drone strikes or jackbooted thugs on its own people without inviting every other country on the planet to band together and "Overthrow the evil fascist totalitarian government that dared march on its own troops". And that's assuming the military doesn't just respond to any "Go march on these civilians who've done nothing wrong and scare them straight" orders with "No, fuck you".
Let me disregard the dick measurement tape and answer the "Is it wrong to think the left is dumb after all their failings" question with... No. Liberalism is founded on mindless feefees, Identity Politics, that says liberal beliefs and liberal sources and liberal theories are inherently worth more than any icky dumb old smelly nonliberal sources, beliefs, and facts. And that's dumb.
Nobody gets arrested or convicted for Female Genital Mutilation in first-world countries because cops are afraid of being called waycis by the muslims and fired by the Diversity Officers. The white-hating racist left's "Anti-Racist" witch hunting literally hurts the "Bwown peoples" they say they're trying to protect and fight for. And that's fucked up and a bit funny, I'm sure future generations will have fun laughing at that when it's taught in schools. Liberalism is the ideology of failure, it seeks to normalize and ensure failure through faulty socialist policies that only seem nicegood on the surface, and it has failed in every way. It's the laughing stock of the world, despite what blatantly manipulated social media posts from fake celebrities say. But let's put that aside for a moment.
"Gun Control" is the polite thing to call the left's neverending misanthropic gun-grabbing quest. And it's faulty, because making good people defenceless won't make bad people harmless. Do Liberals say it will? Yes, but they're liberals. They think there's no such thing as objective truth, man.
