Heavy Rain: What has been Watched can not be Unwatched

This thread title is a warning.

I'm not kidding around here. This is the worst gaming-related thing I have ever seen. I suppose Fallout 3's first trailer and the Point Look trailers are also valid candidates, but they do not embody everything that's wrong with gaming today (just a good chunk of it).

This? This does...

Again, I am warning you, once you have watched this you can not unwatch it

Let's go over what's wrong here:

1. QTE
2. Unabashed sexual objectification of women.
3. QTE
4. An ill-concealed obsession with graphics over gameplay
4. QTES ARE NOT A VALID REPLACEMENT FOR ACTUAL GAMEPLAY

(and let's not even start on how creepy that developer is)

I'm not usually one for console wars, but this game makes me glad I don't own a PS3, just so the chance of me ever coming near this piece of shit decreases further.

This has been one of my most hyped titles for a while. I wait to give it a shot because it does not play like a "regular game".

The QTE and what not do not bother me. I am very interested in the crime scene investigation aspect of the game. Here is a good example of it:

Kinda cool as well how you can die at any point during the combat scenes and if you do die the game does not end but just continues the story from a different character. It was also said each individual "failed" action has a unique outcome. I cannot even begin to imagine how many endings/twist there are to the game, should have great replayability.

Definitely not for everyone, probably along the same lines as Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy in NA). Some loved it and some hated it.

So it's a game about mashing buttons at precise order and intervals so that a CGI chick gets her powdering done correctly?

Lawl.

Actually I think that particular sequence is not even that complicated. :P

It looks like it might just make use of the sixaxis to gently move in the direction that symbol is telling you to apply her make up.

Oh.

It's that sequence where you have to attempt to get into a conversation with a guy in a club's private room.

It can end with you being thrown out, killed, or bashing the guy's head in with a lamp.

So long as this one doesn't end with anything similar to a being made of internet attempting to take control of reality, it'll probably be pretty cool.

Ever play farenheit aka indigo prophecy? This is basically an evolution of it, an interactive movie with a grownup plot that sometimes ventures into the territory of skinemax cheese. Still you have obviosly made up your mind, so I guess this post is for the other dudes. I'm kind of sad there is no PC version anounced that I know of.

Urm..., it doesn't even look that good, wtf?

Edit to add: is this suppose to be another sim game for girls? Or guys who want to be girls? :|

nonononnoon, it's a film noir interactive movie crime-solving game.

Though it sure as hell don't look like 1.

What is this? a playing with dolls game? :P

You're sooo right. Farenheit's started out somewhat interesting and soon became complete crap when the "plot" started to unfold. So you got this kind of games, where pretty much the only input and interaction the player has is to move the pc around and mash buttons when instructed to so that the "story" can move on... but when the "story" sucks you have a total failure of a game...

That's like forcing yourself to watch a crappy movie in which you have to keep pressing "play" because it gets auto-paused every couple of minutes...

Ever play farenheit aka indigo prophecy? This is basically an evolution of it,

An evolution of an involution? That makes it involution in itself.

And yes, I have played Fahrenheit, and I deeply regret every second wasted on that piece of shit.

The story seemed interesting at the beginning, but what they called gameplay was too abysmal to actually worth it.

The developer sounds like a peeping tom with a slight mental disorder

I agree.

To me it feels like he is hiding in there somewhere and lurking.

This is a part where you need to unfold very slowly otherwise you will fail!

You mean it does not play like a game at all.

Look, interactive films are a valid genre, but that's provided the content of the film itself is well-done and entertaining. People forget Dragon's Lair worked because Don Bluth is (was) a friggin' genius, not because of the concept of interactive film.

That concept is very weak in and of itself. QTEs are a somewhat valid element to include in games provided you don't think they're an actual replacement for gameplay. The way Saint's Row II uses QTE is a good example of valid use of the concept.

I did not play Fahrenheit and I don't need to. Nor will I ever play this game. I don't need to, to know it's complete tripe. Game writers aren't nearly good enough to present a story well-directed or well-written enough to warrant the interactive nature.

Heavy Rain is a guaranteed piece of shit. With a lot of hype in it.

And yes, Starseeker, it does, in fact, look pretty middling graphics-wise, which considering how much they hyped up their mocap and realistic facial technology is pretty Frithdamn funny.

I really laughed when i saw this comment at gametrailers.

this game is top quality took gaming to another level goes to show you dont always need to have the same gaming experience over and over again trust me alot of developers will be doing this more in there games which is only going to be a good thing for our gaming experiences

What does he mean by that i don't know.

At least the developer is entertaining to listen to :)

It has been said before but man the dude sounds like a creep.

Developer A: "The game has this thrilling scene with a hostage situation"
Developer B: "I also made sure we had a scene where I can slowly roll on a pair of stockings, massaging my thighs along the way"
Developer A: "God, I thought you were fired after e3!"

sigh... this is supposed to be a serious game?

man, stop trying to make cross overs between serious games and jap date raping sims please. thanks.

Did I just watch a trailer where some dude with a heavy French accent pretends to be a girl and put on make-up, dressing it up as gameplay?

Both Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy and Omikron: The Nomad Soul had a lot of potential. That potential went to waste on horrific gameplay (Fahrenheit more than Omikron) and a plot that seems to start out good, but then devolves into something retarded.
It looks like this is going to be about the same.
