Heavy Rain: What has been Watched can not be Unwatched

i personally hated fahrenheit/indigo prophecy, and main source of that hate is the lack of actual lack of gameplay. All you do is play simon says button mash quick time event trough the entire game. SSBMQTE. Thats it.
The bad plot doesnt help at all.

So i doubt i will like this game.

I really laughed when i saw this comment at gametrailers.

this game is top quality took gaming to another level goes to show you dont always need to have the same gaming experience over and over again trust me alot of developers will be doing this more in there games which is only going to be a good thing for our gaming experiences

What does he mean by that i don't know.

Yeah, saw this comment too...

Probably means that to this guy, QTE = innovashun !!

Btw I played both Omikron and Fahrenheit. Don't have anything bad to say about Omikron honnestly. Fahrenheit on the other hand...

Fahrenheit was this game that started with a really immersive plot, with a great atmosphere but turned into something terrible because one of the writers apparently abused shrooms or something. Finally, the QTE-faux-gameplay killed all replayability...

Heavy Rain will probably the same beast : cool beginning, then something unexpectedly retarded happens ( "Omg NO !! Illuminatis from outer space !!!1!!" ) and then horrible micromanagment through QTE will kill what is left of the interest.

But yeah, Omikron was cool.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

This is easily the most hilarious game trailer I have seen in my life. I don't know what's funnier - banality of gameplay portrayed (I don't think using a six-axis controller to put on make-up would be considered a valid gameplay mechanic by anyone outside of the 11-15 teenage girl demographic), absurdity of actions available to the player (like when the chick tears off a part of her mini-skirt - because nothing says "sexy" like a skank walking around in ruined clothing), or the fact that the developer sounds like he is masturbating while narrating the video. I'm almost tempted to procure a PS3 just so I could experience that ridiculous game in all its glory.

Yeah, that god damn "game" was an embarrassment, it's one of the reasons I don't ever consider games art, because they end up being pretentious pieces of junk where the developers love spouting off about how their game is aesthetically superior and will carry such "meaning" compared to the "lowly" junk that those rubes they call peer developers put out.
Braid almost fell down that rut, Jonathan BLOW can do just that, every time I hear an interview with him I just ask myself "Why do people feel the need to validate this hobby." Only difference is that Braid actually has decent gameplay.

Seriously, Christ, David Cage can suck my bawls bro, Fahrenheit was an absolutely horrible game, and I challenge anyone to call it anything other than worthless trash when they reach the mind-bogglingly idiotic ending which seems to have been put together by an edgy thirteen year old.
QTEs everywhere, and it doesn't even have real puzzles, just random timed segments where you have to know the perfect course of action, no puzzling required because it's all so vague and the whole game lacks detail in general, so it's not even really an Adventure game.

Also does anyone remember the tutorial for Fahrenheit? "Hi, I'm David Cage, and you are about to ENTER AN UNPARALLELED WORLD OF INTERACTIVITY GHAGHAHGA."

when i watched the demo... here are my impressions...

narrator, dude sounded like he was enjoying it far too much. he had to have done these things many times already. he sounds like a pedobear.

demo itself:
ok, when you first walk into the bathroom and it has the symbols on the diff parts of her, i thought nice. but then he started going through them, the symbols to work on that "area" dissapeared. that is just idiotic. it tells me that the developer designed it linearally. very. why not keep the symbols so people can go for the look they want if they so desire. its not a cool idea at that point, its hand-holding.

the animations seem horribly stiff and un-natural. almost seems like they are trying for the sof-core porn audience.

the graphics felt like they were designed by a 1st year university student. and they praised them for their depth. graphics were not that good buddy. especially the closeups on her face. dont praise something if it isnt praise-worthy.

Seems like a pretty straighforward simulation for guys with transsexual impulses. Less conspicuous than being a drag queen in real life.

Heh. I expect this to be much like Fahrenheit: lots of fake choices, no real puzzles, and of course shitloads of QTE. Maybe an absurd story with a plot like Swiss cheese, to top it off. But hey, if console players prefer interactive movies to actual games, it's their choice. It just saddens me that a generation of young people is growing up thinking THIS is innovative gameplay.

Heavy Rain

Any other PS3 users here really excited for this? The reviews are starting to come in, and it seems that this game, for me, is a winner. I love that no matter who dies, who lives, etc, the game keeps going. there are no game over screens. The story simply adapts.

Is it a PS3 Exclusive? A friend of mine is really hyped over it, which is good, because we look for the same things in games. I haven't looked into it that much though.

I do appreciate them trying to do something different but I always had doubts because I absolutely hated Indigo Prophecy.

After watching this video though, I lost interest completely

Sounds like it was written by a freaking robot. The same one that also did the voice overs.

I get to play a worried parent looking for his spoiled kid at the mall? Weee!

Seriously though, the part about the story going on no matter who dies sounds great, but could they possibly have made a less interesting trailer? What is this, Action Sims?

The E3 trailer is a lot more interesting.

Wow thats one spoilt kid...

Wheres the option:

Jason: ''Dad, can I have a balloon?''

You: ''After wandering off in here?! No, you cant have a balloon, now lets wait for your rendered mum to get back...''

so how exactly is this a game? seems more like an interactive movie where you just have to press a button at the right time.

Seems pretty horrible..the gameplay consisting of what seems like a endless QTE cut-scene. Sounds more like torture to me.
Even if the plot is intresting, theres only so much good writing can do, i doubt it can save the "gameplay" for me.

It is hardly endless QTE. There is also quite a bit involving exploring the environment and interacting with it. One of the gameplay videos I saw of a detective who goes into a forensic type mode that makes certain areas of the environment light up so that he can examine and piece together clues.

I can see it appealing to some people, just as point and click adventure games are widely loved by many, even if the entire thing is "endless pointing and clicking".

I'm looking forward to playing this one. I'm one of the people who did not hate Indigo Prophecy (Faranheit, for Euros). It wasn't perfect, and there were moments where the QTE got frustrating instead of fun. But, it is something different in the game smorgasbord. It's like an adventure game. It's like an interactive movie (remember the cd-rom interactive movies? This is better than those ever were.)

I don't expect Heavy Rain to be brilliant all the time. I expect it, too, to be frustrating sometimes. But, an action/adventure game with choice-and-consequences? Why not? I'll give it a go.

Misteryo

Merged.

Also, looking at their previous games the writing will fall apart completely after the first act.

Their last game, Fahrenheit (also known as Indigo Prophecy) was awesome initially. It gave you a lot of freedom, you were trying to solve a murder on one side and at the same time playing the murderer who has apparently gone insane. It had a great atmosphere, and that part of the game was really interesting.
And then, out of nowhere, the game turned completely to shit. Quicktime Events got more prominent, the story stopped making any sense whatsoever, and the consequences basically disappeared from your choices.

From what I remember, Omikron was similar.

What's worse, this game looks like it's taken the whole interactive movie thing to an extreme. Look at that first trailer, having to put on make-up in detail? What the fuck is that?
