Heavy Rain: What has been Watched can not be Unwatched

The game has gone over quite well with the general gaming populace, as much so as it did with the critics.

Just a word of warning for people browsing around forums to get reviews/opinions. A bunch of jack asses on some of the bigger named forums are posting a particular spoiler that pretty much ruins the entire game.

If you plan on getting it I would recommend doing a black out on it until you finish it.

Hah. I'm starting to wonder if you get paid for this, Bal-Sagoth. Your continued defending of a game that is being openly mocked by everyone here is reaching the point of being hilarious.

The game is a joke. For such a highly hyped game, its reviews are unimpressive. And I'm sure the reception is awesome in the PS3-forums you visit but guess what, console fanboys opinions are as preset on console exclusive as reviewer's are on AAA games. Yawn. I'm sorry, but the rest of us can see it for the joke it is.

At least it's good material for Let's Play laughs. It took me a while to believe how retarded this game is, watching that Let's Play, but there you have it

Well actually I don't post on any PS3 forums, Just GameSpot and one other. The other being Team Xbox, with people there also loving the game.

Unless of course there is a conspiracy you got going on here I can imagine that a place with that title is not exactly all PS3 fanboys.

Still holding strong on metacritic with a score of 88 for what it is worth with a slew of fans enjoying the game. I am glad to see the game getting the success it deserves.

Not saying it is for everyone, but I see no reason to hate on people who do enjoy this type of thing.

I'd say MetaCritic score of 88 is pretty impressive for a game that:

1. isn't a shooter

2. isn't part of some massively popular franchise

3. is a piece of shit.

In fact, was an (un)interactive movie *ever* this successful? I mean, if you disregard ancient titles like Dragon's Lair and its knock-offs, games in this style have always been synonymous with failure. Yet Heavy Rain is managing to get away with the same design that developers tried to unsuccessfully peddle during the FMV era almost 20 years ago, but was considered too stupid and infantile even then. If anything, Heavy Rain proves that it isn't the games that got dumbed down - it's the audience.

I don't think the audience is dumbed down...I just think that the audience nowadays finds the other stuff in the industry really generic so this kinda thing catches on...It's new...

Ahaha. Nice touch that he's playing a french(?) language version and the character starts thinking about "douche".

My superpower: My piss is invisible. Better if it had been inaudible, eh?

I installed Indigo Prophecy (the prequel, if you will). $10 on Steam. It is very similar.

These games are basically SCUMM in 3D environment - resurrection of a dead genre. Not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned.

Who is that piece of shit narrating the trailer? How could anyone with an ounce of integrity want to be involved with something so pathetic? What happened to the gaming world, oh yeah – mediocrity took over and it became mainstream…

My God. I just watched that 'Let's Play'. How can this even be considered to be a game? It's like The Sims railroaded into a linear pile of shit.

Edit: ARGH, those LP's are keeping me from going to bed. They quite well succeed at being funny once in a while.

What mad man would want to resurrect FMVs?
*Checks who made the game*
Of course. The Japanese. It's always the Japs and their mad science.

Benzaie's pretty funny, though his French accent can make him hard to follow, and the LP is a bit badly designed (turning the sound of the game itself down too much or even of). Still, it's a good opportunity to get a look at how truly horrificly stupid this game is.

I thought it was French.

FMVs used to be awesome as long as they weren't taken entirely seriously, like in Red Alert.

Although I have no clue what game you're talking about. Heavy Rain doesn't feature FMVs and is French, not Japanese.

EDIT: I suppose you mean the gameplay of old games like Dragon's Lair, instead of the video type.

It's being published by Sony. No American company would want the return of FMVs. While they had their high moments, they ultimately sucked hard. Some thigns are better left buried.

Except that many popular VNs are later re-release w/o the 18+ content and still remain popular, which says something about the quality of narration. z.B.: Tsukihime (and Nasu works in general), Eien no Aselia, Air, etc.

VNs and other low-interaction "videogames" like the one in question are really a cross-media hybrid between books and games, an interactive book where you get to decide the ending, if you will. It's an art to do it well, but when the writer succeeds, it's an experience like no other. So, well, it's not necessarily a "game" in a traditional sense, but that surely doesn't automatically mean that it "sux".

Being a fan of such games, I don't really like people generalizing their bashing. If you have some issue with the game, be specific with what the game does poorly, because ultimately everything else is so opinionated that it only matters in your mind. It's also at this point that the discussion gets hypocritical around here, because the people ("trolls") who come here declaring "those isometric games with stats you guys like suck hard" get a beating, while some people here feel justified to do the exact same thing for another genre.

Forgive the rant, but I felt like pointing it out.

I would assume the bashing has to do with the way this game is presented, as the "next evolution" and something "really new" or something. Fact is interactive films and novels are a fringe genre and they should be, and they are not really games. As long as it's taken at face value I have no problem with it, but don't try to sell it to me as something else.

Meh, well, blame the marketing not the game. Pretty much everything is over-advertised today, esp. in the gaming world. In this specific case, I'm guessing the audience is easy to take advantage of.

So even Sony appears to be a bit surprised at how well this game is doing, I find that entertaining.

Heavy Rain suffering shortages, new stock coming next week

SCEE’s told MCV that Heavy Rain is currently suffering retail shortages in some places, but it insists new stock is coming to retailers next week.

The Quantic Dream thriller went in at number one in its first two days on sale in the UK in the latest charts released this morning: the first game to do so for Sony since Killzone 2 last February.

But Sony’s said it will need more “footwork” to acquire a copy right now.

“We have been extremely delighted with the demand for Heavy Rain,” said a rep.

“Whilst it isn’t out of stock we are aware that supplies are running low. There is still supply in the chain, but I’m afraid if you’re hunting for a copy it may require a little extra footwork. There will be more stock arriving next week.”

The company further added: “In the meantime we thank everyone for their excitement and their support for this title and also for their patience if they are still seeking a copy.”

The thriller is a fantastic game, judging by these reviews and our opinion. Shame we can’t play it, then.

I am pleased as well, it is wonderful to see a game that is not a generic cookie cutter shooter doing well!

Now if only Sony will solve the tiny little crisis that is currently rendering millions of PS3s useless.

Hah. I saw that newsbit and just knew you'd post it. Would you please give it up already, Bal-Sagoth?
