Hell is not frozen yet! (Diablo 3)

Jinx, our talented writer over at Mutants Rising, said his account was hacked and everything was gone...he put the blame on the dreaded "Mole People".

Oh no, not the Mole People!

In other news, I downed Diablo in Hell mode last night with my 37k hp wizard and his paltry 4.4k DPS. There was no parade and I didn't get laid.

Or trying to stem the flow of FUD.

Sounds to me more like people need to use help tickets and Blizzard is trying to keep their forums slightly cleaner.

I am not sure what to think about it though. On one side, I dont think its THAT easy to hack it. But on the other ... when you think about that they have a long experience with WoW, and yet they still had such trouble with their servers. It does not give me a good feeling. I would not be surprised if at some point their servers will be hacked one way or another. I mean its just to tempting. To much money that can be "stolen" here if you think about it.

Never underestimate the extend of human stupidity.

I just witnesses D3 for the first time tonight at my nephews place. I have to say I was disappointed. His uber character didn't help, it happened to blast everything to pieces before it even reached him, but also the game felt flat, and there seemed to be too many restrictions on the character design. After a 10 year wait, D3 looks too much like WOW. But Blizzard are still the kings of the glitz, and there are a lot of sucker out there.

Totally, dude. I can't believe people don't prefer spammable potions, only two active abilities, merciless character building, loot bots, cheap PVP ganking tactics(accompanied by body camping), item dupes, constant bot spam and a nearly non-existent difficulty.
Rose-tinted glasses, imo. Every game has shitty elements, so I guess we're all suckers.

True dat. D3 is not perfect by any means, but it removes many of the pointless annoyances of yore.

That being said, one thing that really bugs me is the loot. It's utterly boring. Just flat boosts to designated stats; your damage stat and Vitality that's all that matters. Rest of the affixes don't matter much. Lifesteal is all well and good, but 1% of your damage dealt when any enemy worth the time can kill you in a few seconds from Nightmare on? Extra XP per monster, that would have been OK in Ladder back in D2, but now it's superfluous when you hit 60 so fast. Gold and health globe pickup range, are you kidding me? Plus, the Legendaries are extraordinarily underwhelming, I'v seen blues of equivalent level being more powerful. I'v heard the few Set items there are also kinda suck, that end-game gear is pretty all Rares, and so on. And where are the fun procs, such as random Frost Novas, Crushing Blow and the like? For a loot driven game, they sure made it as drab, straighforward and boring as possible. Dragon Age had more interesting loot.

Watching a symbol in the UI to finish loading up its cooldown truly is the pinnacle of game design. How crappy it is to let the player decide when and how many potions to sip!

Who cares about loot bots? Were you forced to use them while playing DII with a bunch of your friends?

"Only two active abilities" - wat

I am kinda worried. A really good and old friend who also enjoyed diablo 2 as we played that game together for a long time in our youth says he isnt that impressed from Diablo 3. The visuals are ok and the story is not bad either. But they have cut much from the "old" game play. Like the fact that skills are changed heavily (you know, no more points in strength, vitality and such), quest arrow (or something like that), that your gear is suffering when you die instead of experience and gold (and you cant repair it) and loot in general isnt that interesting.

Not buying diablo 3 in the end might have been the better decision. Well not before it drops in price probably.

Wait 2 years and buy it for $5. D1 is still the most gripping of all the games. If only someone could hack it to increase the resolution...

I agree about Diablo 1. I wish it had a graphical update or something.

I still prefer D1 as well. it was, after all, the simplicity and athmosphere that made the game. never really liked D2, and I think D3 is a huge step in the right direction. but I still miss the simplicity of D1.

Armour and character designs were sick in Diablo 1. Looked awesome without relying on spikes and giant shoulder pads.

the warrior holding the helmet (if wearing plate armor) when back to town... man, that was so nice

fuck blizzard if they don't make a dedicated shield user

Admittedly, I'm barely into Act II on normal in D3, but so far I'm 100% in agreement with this. The loot is just... bleh. Does it have + my primary stat and + vitality? No? Toss it. Except for weapons. There it's: check the big DPS stat. If it's bigger keep it, if it's smaller toss it.

So far, the armor/weapon design is pretty underwhelming too. D1 may have only had 3 looks for each character... but they were awesome. Here, I'm seeing too much WoW-inspired giant shoulder-pads, derpy helmets, pointless spikes, and mismatching colors.

Call me nostalgic, but it's kinda sad there's still so much in D1 that they haven't even been able to match.

The Butcher in D1 scared the fuck out of me when he came running out of his gory lair. It's one of the few times when I needed to flee for my life in a game.
