How Success Killed Duke Nukem

I thought someone was just trying to mess with me this morning, when someone told me this. Here's to hoping it actually gets finished within the decade.

Gearbox has stated they're in the "polishing it off" stage, so we should see it by next year.

I can't fucking wait.

Hail to the king baby! that is awesome! This game is going to rock and you all know it.

If "rock" means "Generic FPS at best" then yes, this game will ROCK OUR WORLD MANG!

Honestly, I'm torn between believing it and calling bullshit.

Bullshit because it's been 13 years already and we've been told "Ok soon SRSLY guiz!" a bunch of times already.

Believing it because Gearbox actually knows what they're doing.

Either way, the game is still Duke Nukem, whom will remain forever in peoples nostalgia filters despite being a generic character with stupid one liners, and this game will sell like hotcakes because people who are morbidly curious, or fanboys.

If it comes out, I'll probably wait for the price to go down or rent it first.

I wonder how much of it is the stuff that's been in development this whole time. Are they just using some elements of that or simply finishing it all up?

It's gonna be interesting watching what will happen to the legend.

I mean FO3 fucked up the franchise, but at least people can still go play FO1 and FO2 to get a feel for what it used to be. It's not like people will play old Duke Nukem 3D these days, it's just far too ancient.

So for many people Duke Nukem Forever will be the first game from the franchise...

Anyone know if the same dude is doing the voice? The fat bastard had a good voice - without him, Duke wouldn't be the same.

Actually, I disagree. I found the Duke Nukem 3D held up surprisingly well, when I played it. Sure, you need the obligatory texture update pack type stuff, but the gameplay is still fun. Holds up a hell of a lot better than, say, the early Quake games.

After hearing the announcement I found a twitter account belonged to George Broussard who runs (ran?) 3D Realms. Some guy asks him how much of the 3D Realms content is retained and George responds with 'Virtually all our content and game that we'd created through end of 09/early 10'. So I guess that means Gearbox will just be touching it up, adding a few of their own things, but most of what you see will be from the original guys.

Yup, his name is Jon St. John. He'll be doing Duke's voice again in this game :) woohoo!

Is there a patch/mod that enables full mouselook?

I remember you turn LEFT or RIGHT to aim, but vertical aiming is automatic. That's something that would be very difficult getting used to again...

It has freelook. (press U key) Or you could use EDuke for a smoother experience.

This has been the most dedicated and longest hype building for a game human race has ever witnessed, and all of it was planned to the detail.

Dude, just download "High Resolution Project", it's the definitive version of Duke Nukem 3D. You'll find everything you need there. Oh, and "XXX pack" suits the tone of the game pretty well.

I'm really surprised people can still bring up the energy to care about a DNF release.

Maybe not you, but a lot of us are very hungry for a new FPS as unserious and over the top as Duke Nukem game. New grimdark shit got really tiresome. I'm also looking forward to Serious Sam 3, whenever it might happen.

I've got balls of steel.

At first I was hyped, then I found out the game has Regenerating Health and the ability to only have 2 weapons with you at a time ala Call of Duty.

This isn't the Duke Nukem I know.

I really, really fucking hope it is released with Mod Tools. Then maybe it would be salvageable.

[spoiler:5d598e8828]Still, I'm doing a replay of Duke Nukem 3D now anyway. I'll probably get Duke Nukem Forever when it comes out, even if it is a disappointment.[/spoiler:5d598e8828]

Well, it is on Consoles and we all know that the people who play Call of Duty can't seem to grasp the concept of pushing a button to not die.

But 2 weapons sucks, that means that (yet again) we're probably going to be given the "right" weapon for the situation rather than making us figure out what works best.

SHIT I FUCKING HATE THAT MECHANIC!
