Just two notes:
Actual mini-nuclear weapon is not as stupid as it may seem - see Davy Crockett.
So you, like, uh, completely missed that giant tripod holding up the launcher?

No it dosen't. Until we know for sure however, it's probably wise to leave the speculative 'crossbow and bolts' comments in your imagination.

As interesting as the article is - with a few tidbits I had no previous knowledge of - the video must be one of the most horrible ones so far. The way he so bluntly talks about how "awesome" the game is makes me feel ill to my stomach. Are they being paid-off or something?

And for yours as well, but seeing how they shit on canon, and lie about everything else, I am not having high hopes and neither should you, so take it easy

Im easy my friend. Accuracy on your posted comments around here is pretty important though I've found, with good reason.

P.S. I will feel about these matters as I wish thankyou and do remain with particulary high hopes :)

not to interject but wasn't it pretty much confirmed elsewhere that ammo was at least sold? i.e.

"Within the first 6 hours of playing, I managed to amass an arsenal that included a missile launcher, a personal nuke launcher, and a chaingun. I could only afford one nuke to put in my launcher, but boy-oh-boy was that a lot of fun"

We don't know where from and this was a preview sitting probably. I dont know, you didnt provide a link.

Davy Crockett was long-range, the Fatman is ridiculously short-range.

Is there an ingame video with Fat Man? Davy Crockett was (ridiculously) short range too (2 km - that's short even for infantry warfare).

I'm not saying Fat Man is realistic - it isn't. I just wanted to note that there could be such weapon in Fallout and that it could be used in a reasonable way (e.g. to anihilate raiders' camp from distance).

apologies, the quote was from the link provided in the "Fallout 3: Tools of Survival" newspost

Apologies punter x. You are right. It dosen't however say where he bought the nuke from. I will grant you that following the likes of oblivion, the market will most likely be the place BS allow you to buy nukes. Not sure how I feel about that. Seems pretty dangerous to me to have them laying around. Would be better if you found them or got them as rewards for completing quests.

Re: mulaalia. You made an assumption without any evidence which therefore makes it inaccurate until proved otherwise. Seems pretty straightforward to me but lets not get petty eh?

In all honesty I dont really know what the fuss is about the fatman.
Its blast radius dosen't even look that devastating. A glorified rocket launcher of which they have one of already strangely. Think ill stick the old hunting rifle!

Oh boy, oh boy, invisible walls. There's immurshon for you. It's also funny that people over at the BS board a year ago said that Beth wouldn't do that.

Being able to buy the fat man in a store is as stupid as the power armor shops in San Fran.

My assumption is just a theory, and no, theory is not inaccurate until proven otherwise nor is it accurate, in my case it is a hyptohesis (to suppose, assume), and if Beth proves me wrong, THAN it is a wrong hypothesis, but until that time i will continue to theorize thank you very much.

I'm sure that in 1985 plutonium is available in every corner drugstore, but in 1955 it's a little hard to come by.
No matter what Bethesda says there is no rectifying that the Fat Man Portable Nuke Launcher could not load an actual nuclear weapon unless all kinds principles of biology and physics are violated. Even the most compact tactical nuke would have a more destructive explosion, and if you were unshielded and within a kilometer of the blast you would quickly die from exposure to gamma radiation. I would rather imagine that the device is actually a dirty bomb using powerful conventional explosives - then the low radiation makes sense as well as the low destructiveness.

Regarding the invisible walls, that is one of the worst staples of game design ever. If they were smart there would be some plausible reason that you could not advance any further. In the game Shadow of the Colossus, if you manage to climb to the top of a tower with a bridge that leads out of the land (your character only uses it at the intro to the game) a large wind blows and forces you back - sure it's an invisible wall, but at least it some kind of rational behind it.

Maybe with Fallout 3, it would make sense to have radioactive tornadoes on the borderlands preventing you from crossing, or maybe they could just up the rads you receive in that area so that no one could survive in the borders long enough to get away. Anyway I just hope the whole invisible wall and text insn't too cheesy.

'So you just stroll in and buy a nuclear crossbow and mini-nuclear bolts from a wasteland merchant........and there are actually some people who don't find this stupid?'

if it is just a theory then why did you take issue with it so much in the first place and call it stupid. Its like you are arguing with yourself, which I think you should because this has run its course for me.

I have to say I've never quite followed why there'd be so much fear over nuclear-whatever after 200 years. Sure some people would have had a fear past down over several generations but many people simply wouldn't know/caer about why the world was the way it is, it simply is.

How afraid are you of the Black Plague? It was a huge deal a few hundred years ago, but as it is no longer a serious threat what power does it hold to cause fear?

And not that I like the Fatman, but...If you can beleive that there is not a huge fear of nuke power that you all assume, AND they have the tech for man portable plasma and laser weapons, powered armor, etc then why would it be too far off to manage to beleive that the Fatman could exist. That being said I too think it's stupid, but to me it's not too far off from a potential reality...

It's used in the E3 trailer, near the end:

The Fatman is used on a target less than 10m away.

[So you just stroll in and buy a nuclear crossbow and mini-nuclear bolts from a wasteland merchant] was a hypothesis

[and there are actually some people who don't find this stupid?] was a personal statement, because if i didn't have personal feelings about the whole matter, i wouldn't be posting here, would I?

As for arguing with yourself...thing, I do it all the time, introspection you know, although I agree i didn't made a very clear statement, and never meant to insult anyone, so we cool?

This whole hype machine is getting on my nerves.

They're seriously bloody overdoing it.

sorry - totally offtopic - just felt like doing it
