Initial Impressions: ME: Andromeda (Spoilers Inside)

I would just make it a free skill system for every type of weapon and unlocking abilities and choosing a profile reducing and Increasing the cost of specific skills (more of a trait) but obviously not make it be able to be switched at will.

Some of the game looks pretty decent other part seem pretty poor. I think the game will turn out pretty decent but will defiantly be over hyped.

So it is a PURE action game now. - I mean not that ME1 was a real RPG for me anyway, but they at least "tried" it ...

Seriously though, it always gives me a huge head ache when I see how many games today are labeled as RPGs making the term completely useless. At this point, you could probably sell Counter Strike as "RPG" because it has 'classes', where a player with an rifle is the assault class and a player with a scoped weapon is a 'sniper'.
A bit offtopic but I remember back in the Bethesda forums days when a Bethesda apologist said that any game where you play as a character with a role is by definition a 'roleplaying game', using Half-Life as an example since you "roleplay" as Gordon Freeman.

I think people can take a franchise name and think that every game from it is good. I mean look at fallout for example

The fag-hags getting pissed off that a character is straight. The horror!

Apparently there is a different model for Ryder in the game files or something?
Looks way better to me.

No fix for animations apparently.

Maybe in their inclusiveness the developers wanted the protagonist to be weird looking?

Oh and is this true? Can you really not be white (without a tan) in custom creation?

@Mr Fish Maybe they're promoting manlets? Manlets can be heroes too! (see Audie Murphy) ;)

It's funny that they fucked their own animations by changing facial proportions though.

Seriously though, that's what I figured when I saw this. The faces, the character creation, the body model; I've had this thought that they want the characters to be more down to earth or something and that's why we end up with them looking like this. And I don't necessarily mind the concept, but the execution isn't exactly helping when it comes with the poor animations. When the poor animations are taken into consideration it just seems like they aren't competent enough to develop a game of this scope.

[edit]

I'm also thinking that if you view MEA differently then it might be quite enjoyable. We know they have weird facial expressions and stuff like that, we know it has cheesy moments like when she disarms some turian and turns the gun around on him. It's a comedy. Like, it's meant to be corny. Not to be taken too seriously. The dialogue, the facial expressions, hell even some of the animations could almost be excused if you treat it as just that. A kind of light parody. Like, a comedy film set in the universe of Mass Effect with c-list actors.

Of course, those that want a proper Mass Effect experience won't be happy with this but then again the proper series was always meant to just be a trilogy and they can still go back and play that if they want proper Mass Effect. Since this is a spin-off I don't mind the idea of them almost treating it like a joke and making it goofy.

Like, yknow the chick who's like "my face is tired"? Imagine it as a comedy film set in that universe and the c-list acress is some washed up botox user and it makes far more sense.

The more I see of it the more I start to think about "well what if I look at it through a different lens?" (the one I've just explained) and it makes far more sense and looks like it could even be enjoyable.

Like a so bad it's good b-film.

But as a serious game? I looks like a total shitshow.

Saw a video of the character customization and holy shit is it bad. Makes FO3's character creator look amazing in comparisson.

ME:A is Bioware Montreal studio game, their first. Why the actual fuck it must go open world and planet exploration? Why didn't they made a game on a one but really big colonial ship in vein of well, The Sunless World/Colony Ship RPG Heinlein's Orphans of the Sky?

I keep hearing that the game may be "Okay" and this may be the case.

But the fact that the Devs clearly don't give a shit make me not give a shit.

Plus, I can see this being Bioware's last game so why should they?

This will certainly be the last time Bioware ever engages with its community. The project has had some serious hurdles, and people are now witch hunting for the animators which is just plain dumb.

The faces were jarring in some cases, but for the most part the experience as a whole has been pretty solid - it feels like a Mass Effect game - specifically a return to Mass Effect 1. My initial reaction was pretty harsh because the character creator completely soured the rest of the experience. I've gotten over it and the experience has left me on a more positive note.

I'm doing a slower run through the prologue stuff and I customized the Sara Ryder to be African with preset 7 or 8(?) and she looks leagues better than the default Sara.
