Insane Steam Sale

To be honest, I never played the Gothic games so I don't know really what to expect.

Could people here tell me what the differences are to Risen/Gothic in comparison to games such as Fallout, Planescape Torment, Knights of the old Republic?

Gothics are nothing like any of those games. They're action-adventure/RPGs with a heavy dose of combat, awesome atmosphere, a great draw to exploration and very good quest design.

If you've played nothing like this, start with Gothic and Gothic II Gold. They're better than any of these recent titles. Gothic II Gold is in my personal top-5.

And got Dragon Age Ultimate Edition. It's 75% off for the next 12 hours. My purchasing spree is complete.

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion for $29.99 USD. Only $10 off but it was just released a month and a week ago and is a great game.

I bought 2 of the STALKER games, except clear Sky, I hear a lot of good stuff about it, I hope it's a nice game

They're both excellent games. SoC is more atmospheric, CoP is more polished and focused.

I would recommend you to install the "Complete" mods when you play them if you have a decent PC, the mods give the games some very noticeable graphic improvements.

Do those mods come along with the games? Or do I have o download it from somewhere else?

The main reason I got them, except everyone saying that it's good, it's because I'm kind of tired of the bethesta's fallout engine, which I really hate for a lot of reasons.

Plus, I really like the survival idea of the games, which I heard there are a lot, among the obvious radiation, hunger, dehydration, but also possible bullet and deep wounds that end up bleeding and making the player lose health.

That is by far the biggest reason to want it, I have never liked playing the Fallout games as some guns blazing rambo, but usually a sneaky bastard that chooses its battles.

edit: and I'm not criticizing F3, so no one take my post as flame

I never played the Splinter Cell games, despite them being apparently very good in general (especially the original and Chaos Theory).

So now, 10$ later, I have all 4 of them, ohohoh.

Funny thing is, I'm too busy enjoying ME3's lastest multiplayer DLC to actually play any of the games I buy. Doesn't matter, spent 30$ to get like 10 games/DLCs.

You keep going on about bad mechanics but you have yet to describe a single one other than the horse-riding (which sucks, I admit).
you guys played the game I guess. If you don't see how the gameplay is simply mediocre in some cases even outright bad then I don't know if it would make any difference if I explain my point or not as I have the feeling that we will not get a consensus here. Two Worlds 2 was simply rushed and a game without any real ambitions throw out for the fast money. Nothing more nothing less. don't believe it? Play till the end of the game past that african desert and tell me they have not cut out much content.

I do even agree that I am extremely picky when it comes to games. But despite that, I really can not remember anything from Two Worlds 2s combat that was ... memorable. The magic in Two Worlds 2 was alright though.

Hel I admitl even that Skyrim has its qualities here and there! For an open ended hiking simulator Skyrim sure is one of the better games out there.

Just because I hate Oblivion because Oblivion is pretty much making EVERYTHING wrong compared to Morrowind which I really liked (despite its flaws) doesn't mean I am blind to the good parts Bethesda can do. Issue is just that Bethesda is always showing their games as those deep RPG experiences which they clearly are not. don't sell me a MC Donalds menu as Filet Mignon and then be surprised if I complain.

I liked Risen 2 well enough, but yeah, it's got some off-putting parts. Many people hate the combat system, and exploration is kind of hampered by the island design. My review
Combat is ... strange. Its pretty obvious that it was designed with swords/weapons in mind. Because as soon I got in a fight with a single enemy using a weapon it was awesome. The options you had here blowed my mind away. it feelt very rewarding. But as soon you started to get in battles with animals or several enemies (and the game is FORCING such fights many times on you ...) it starts to suck and become very frustrating.

Divinity 2 is on flash sale. is it worth picking up? haven't really seen or heard anything about it.

10 bucks for DKS? I say yes.

It is a hack 'n slash in the purest sense, so it's all combat and fetch quests, but from an OTS perspective rather than top-down, but it's got some neat stuff in it with the dragons, and the combat is good. I enjoyed it a lot, and DKS is both the main game and the more RPG-heavy Flames of Vengeance expansion.

I can recommend it, as long as you don't expect a deep RPG or classic-style hack-n-slash.

thanks for the input, guess I'll pick it up.

I loved Risen and Kingdoms of Amalur. am I wrong in thinking this might be kinda similar to those two?

No. They are pretty similar.

Not sure if you guys follow it, but keep an eye on Amazon's sales as well.

I was interested in Warlock and Crusader Kings 2, and was waiting for their flash/community sales. But then I found that for the same price on Amazon, I could get this: Plethora of Paradox Games which gave me both those games, as well as Magicka, Majesty 1/2, and Victoria 2 for less than just the two games were going to cost on Steam, AND they all activate on Steam.

Same thing with Bioshock where I got both games in a package for 7 dollars on Amazon, both Steam activatable.

Sale is pretty much done now. I came away only spending about $20. In the end I bought Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity, the Binding of Isaac DLC, Universe Sandbox and Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition.

That had much better deals than the winter sale, ended up walking away with quite a few games.

Dead Island
Fable 3
Just Cause 2
Saints Row 3
New Vegas Ultimate Edition
Far Cry 2
