Main enemy for F03....

since the chances of Fallout 3 ever coming to light are a million to juan ... in my mind Fallout 3 will always be subtitled... "THE MASTER'S REVENGE!"

I think we're on to something here!

Being able to choose what town you're from and what background you start with is a fantastic idea! Maybe then the game designers could actually do something with their incomplete groups that you "join." BOS in Fallout 1? You can only join it, just forget about becoming a scribe or paladin! NCR Rangers/Slavers in Fallout 2? Oooh, kill some slavers/slaves! Then what? Nada.

Actually giving these groups a better role and power in the gameplay would bring up the replayability of FO3 more than tenfold! Unfortunately, this is the opposite goal of corporate game companies, as they want you to buy more games, not play the same one over and over! But please, don't let me interupt your brainstorming...

There are some nice ideas here...
As for the idea on a political war or so on between different factions, that is a great idea, realistic and highly likely in a world were different places struggle for power and control.
The use of groups such as raiders is nice as these could be involved in the plot to add more depths and twists to the game.

The possibility's that the character could take would be many, thus as Ozrat said, improving the replay ability of the game as different factions apart from the current good and evil could be chosen in which to complete the game with.

Possibilities of alliances and betrayals could be used to add different sub tasks. Hell...there could even be political sabotage and so on!

You would be like the annoying guy who watches cars in NCR. Shuffling about, stealing from the trunk of my car til I eventually get pissed off enough to unleash a full burst of bozar from 2 feet away.

Devil, this isn't funny anymore. My spider sense tells me you're treading the fine line between spam and funny, and Rosh is not about to be patient with that..

Yeah, baby...

Treathening with the Rosh...

You're the idiot who everyone assrapes, then disposes like a diaper, or toilet paper.

Past Light, I realize that you may be fed up with Devil, as of late he has been throwing his random thoughts into every thread, but there's no reason to stalk him on every thread and post a personal attack on him. No need at all. And if for some reason you must continue to do so, at least tone down your frigging obscene language. Maybe you can create the Anti-Devil Fanclub? I'm sticking with Roshambo and Kharn (see below) with this one.

But yes, here's some possible starting points for the Chosen One...
Vault Raiders, Town Raiders, Slavers, Vaults, Cities, Cults, BOS (not POS in this game), and, of course, a city filled with citizens that have been inspired by us who are on the NMA board. Unwashed Villagers got their 15 minutes of fame in an obscure easter egg. Let us have a whole freaking city! Yes, Devil, sadly you would be the character that we all kill anyways and the whole town celebrates wildly.

My concern is whether or not all these starting points end up with the same ending. Maybe FO3 could have different end goals for each type of player rather than all the different plots ending up at the same end baddy.

Anybody ever play Seiken Detsku 3? Sorry for the bad spelling, but you would know this game if you have played it. Depending on who your main character is and who your companions will be as picked from the beginning, the first third of the game or so is completely unique. Not only that, but how you modify your characters makes for some interesting battles.

Yeah my spider sense is tingling too...

And I also have no idea what a "2D6 in pwning" is...

Like I said, he's just messing around. Havin' some fun, let it drop.

How about having the different sides fighting for control of some crucial technology like GECKs or advanced weaponry or how about continuing the focus on the whole FEV thing. I don't like the whole politics thing, I found that in Fallout 2, the conflicts between New Reno/NCR/Vault City were interesting, but only as a portion of a bigger story. I'd like for mutants to still be a major player in the game, because their formidable opponants. They, along with descendants of the COTC could be after the FEV for their unity purposes, while a cult like the huboligists could be after it for other reasons. The BOS (if their still around, they looked in pretty bad shape in fallout 2) would take measures to prevent this. Raiders and dubious organizations(mob families, slavers, etc.) would have economically and militaristic motives for their pursuit of the virus. With the mutants army weakened, there would need to be a new faction thrown into the equation, because none of the aforementionned groups would pose much of a challenge once you obtained power armor and a skill of 130 with some type of weapon. Robots would be cool but that was already done...aliens are just stupid...Maybe smart deathclaws? They seemed pretty nice but maybe there are sinister ones to. Only problem is they can't use weapons so they'd be pretty boring to fight. Any ideas?

Back to the topic,
What would you like as the main enemy in Fallout3....And please no more answers that insult people a argue with them 8)

I thought of some ideas:

First off, In fallout 2 In san Fran, there was the chinese population that came over on the submarine. Perhaps, The chinese could be the new threat as they suppodedly had incredible technology.

Another Idea, I thought of was the BOS minority of Brotherhood Tactics. In the game they were basically imperialists and would have much greater numbers than the West Coast Brotherhood. Unfortunatly (sp?), this would sort of mimic an Enclave type of plot...

Also, In The Sierra Army Depot, there was the marine that you could revive from the time right before the bombs fell. Perhaps, an army from the past could be the villan(s)?

I think that it's about time that its about time that the Fallout cities and groups of people start to become powerful. The wastelands should follow what generally happens when there is no dominant power in the lands: They become mini-states competing with one another for power. Rather than having yet another external enemy, the main baddy could be within whatever group you start with, assuming that FO3 has multiple starting points as discussed in another thread. This follows pre-existing civilization models.

Yes, and it elimenates one thing that always annoyed me in both Fallouts; the stories not linear, but the ending is. You HAD to blow up the Enclave, and you HAD to kill the Master.

Several individual powers means you can join up with one of them and basically affect what happens to the wasteland from there. I can remember all the lamentations about Fallout 1, when everyone thought "it was a darn shame you can't join the Master and finish the game as a Supermutant". I.e. you go to the Military Base, get dipped, and then help the mutants in their attack on Vault 13 (OVERSEER KILLING!) and the BOS.

Evil has never been expanded enough in Fallout anyway, but several factions (of several races) causing several endings would make the game a lot more replayable.

And it adds a lot of options, such as having a very powerfull ghoul NPC, but a hard man to keep with you, because there are several towns that have a "shoot ghoul on sight"-rule.

Anyone here know the pure genius German game Gothic? It's the best 3D RPG I know of and my third CRPG and game after Fallout 1 and 2 (no, I haven't played planescape torment), one of the best things is that in chapter 1, you have to chose between three factions or "camp" (swamp, new, old) and your equipment for the first few chapters after that depends on your choice, though the ending of the game doesn't.

Yeah I'll third that because depending on whos side you take the different ememies you will encouter and it'll be even better because of it being an RPG.
So there would be a main option and lots of sub options.

Close... There should definately (correct me if I'm misspelling definately, I can't tell and its driving me crazy!) be tons of sub options. What the point of my previous post was that there should be several main options for the main character to undertake, which would depend on how they live their fictional lives. Just imagine playing the game 5 times in a row, and each game was completely unique because of how they did it. "Huh, but last time that guy was the holy Pope who I rescued from the end baddy/goody... What's he doing running this bordello, and why is he being so evil/good?"

Yes, it would be nice to have different starting backgrounds. That way you could see the game from different points of view, and get a very different story for each character. For instance the interests of a Ghoul ar probably very different off those of a raider.
