    The hilarity with mfkdggrfll is that he even admits Fallout 3 isn't all that great by giving it a 6/10. Still didn't stopped him from being a complete fanboy when people mentioned Fallout 2 as being the better game.

    Heisenberg was just a major retard who thought a mediocre game was somehow peak Fallout.

    I wish I had the pleasure of being here for mfkndggrfll's posts. I got to pick on him some when I used to post on the codex. He was still making bait threads with weird takes of course. It was fun though.

    Was just referring to how that recently banned troll wanted you to justify how NV improved over 3. Since said troll is gone, I guess that's the end of that.

    Fallout 3 would be far better if it had nothing to do with Fallout. It would still have a lot of problems but it would go a long way

    This is actually something I bring up. I've read a bunch of people list "improvements" to Fallout 3 like:

    * No Brotherhood of Steel
    * No Super Mutants
    * No Enclave

    And so on and I'm like, "So why bother making it a Fallout game at all? Call it Radiation."

    When arguing FO3 with a friend (who never played FO1 or 2, while believing 3 was the best game ever), that was my argument: "I don't *hate* the game itself: Just don't call it Fallout - cus it's not a Fallout-game!"

    Why do these three elements define Fallout?

    I think it'd be a great game if it was something like STALKER but set in America. The game doesn't fit well into Fallout and the attempts to bring in recognisable Fallout things really bring the game down. But even if you remove any connections to Fallout the game's writing still has a lot of issues

    But there's no Enclave in Fallout 1 so I guess the first installment to the entire franchise is only 2/3rd's a Fallout game.

    We all know they don't. There could still be the smaller things that tied an East Coast game to the original games without rehashing 1 and 2's story, factions, and location specific mutants.

    Fallout 3 shouldn't have had those three things and it shouldn't have had radscorpions either. Scorpions don't live over here and I doubt there were enough pet ones that mutated from radiation in the DC area to have a presence like they do. I don't even like the Deathclaws being out there. They're obviously lizard-esque creatures which make more sense in the deserty like areas than they do in Virginia/DC. Sure there are lizards there but you don't think of that when you think of that area. More new mutants would have been more welcome. We got what? Mirelurks and bloatflies? Bloatflies being boring as fuck and mirelurks being okay.

    Fallout 2 has substantially less Brotherhood of Steel and Supermutants too (unless I'm mistaken?). The Brotherhood is very secretive and there's like one dude who talks to you about them from town to town. Supermutants mostly only exist in Broken Hills, a few in the military base, and the few in the NCR unless they were more present and memory is failing me. So it's barely making the 3/3 mark. I guess Bethesda really is magically the best Fallout makers! Gee whizz we had it wrong all along!

    I don't mind Bloatflies as an enemy honestly. It's always good to have at least one "Mudcrab" type enemy that everyone can curb stomp if only for the amusement factor. A good "starter enemy" to put alongside the tougher ones (Geckos, Coyotes, etc) for new players to fight against as they get used to controls, mechanics, etc.

    I'm not saying I hate bloatflies. I'm saying that it's nothing really interesting.

    Not to point out the blindingly obvious but if you remove all of the canonical groups and NPCs then Fallout has nothing that couldn't be a generic post-apocalypse RPG.

    Especially since you're switching to 1st person shooter mechanics.

    What for example is unique to Fallout if you remove all existing groups and make new ones in the Capital Wasteland?

    I have too much respect for you to think that this is a serious argument.

    But yes, replacing the Enclave, Super Mutants, and Brotherhood of Steel with original groups--what makes the game Fallout in a legally binding, "I have to pay money for this franchise" sense?

    Why not just have the NCR on the East Coast too then? They started in Shady Sands and grew into a larger governing body in Fallout 2. Would only make sense to also shoehorn them into Fallout 3 right? They're just as much Fallout as the Brotherhood of Steel! And what about the Khans? They were in both games too! Why didn't they go to DC? What was Bethesda thinking?!

    But do the NCR have the cool power armors that makey the stompy sounds when they walk, HMMMMMMM?
    The Encle are great bad guys because they are the spooks and have evil armor.
    Super Orkz are da bestest to fight because they are bigs and greens.

    all of these things are the pillars of Fallout: A First Person Shoot Game.

    Exactly.

    It's not even about it being the essence of Fallout, it was about the cool factor it had. Have two factions who wear the cool armor be at war with each other even though they're both dying out.

    What's the point of moving to Capital Wasteland then?

    What is unique to Capital Wasteland if you remove all existing groups?

    The only thing in Fallout I don’t mind seeing uniform across the nation is the automatons from the Old World still roaming around.
