Megamod 2.3 technical issues and suggestions

Really? Already? Two pages in and this stuff starts already. People never cease to amaze me. I guess a post isn't worth reading unless it is the very last one in the thread, huh? Or maybe you are just like some people I work with, who just ask the same question over and over until they hear an answer they like?

sorry about that. i just bumped on a post that mentioned the bug, realized it was true and asked you. im kinda new here so i didnt know that so many people had asked you that

still in the subject of the thread, the upgrade thingies in the san fran shop dont stack, but i dont know if its just there or in general
 
The answer to your question was not only in another thread, but just a few posts just before yours.

As for the stacking issue with the merchants (everywhere) and your own inventory, I think I have that resolved due to a recent fix that I just added from killap's patch.
 
Hmm theres something weird happening. i went to the gameplay help thread and didnt see any complaints about epa (technical issues regarding it)

but ok. i get there, see the elevator in the door cant be repaired. go to the air vent. kill the critters. go to the other air vent and enter the place with the robots. they dont attack me (but im not sure if they should). then i use the elevator. screen goes black and my mouse starts to leave trails. enter any screen and go back and nothing yet. only way to repair it is to load a game. if i save a game down there, then i get an error when loading it.

thats it. do i have to have anything else installed other than the megamod?

edit: ok i extracted everything again and works fine (except for the fact that a part of the screen is black when i enter the sublevels but i just need to pass the mouse over)

Nothing else to install with the Megamod, except the Children patch. Don't even try it.

As for the black screen that returns when you move the mouse over it, I know of that. I don't know why it does that though.

And if you are having problems (and I think you will have them again), after you extract everything, and BEFORE you play, set all proto files to read only. I'd bet that was the problem. Whenever you get the error with the all black map that leaves red hexes and images of your character (like ghosts), the problem is almost always related to missing protos because they were not set to read-only and were deleted.
 
i dont know if what im writing here is correct but its just me or you have only one chance of getting the ggg?

oh and by the way what does the thing the doctor injects in you do? i didnt see any differences
 
34) Looting in Redding
I think it would make a lot of sense for the sheriff in Redding to not allow you to loot his building - at least not the lockers in the room he''s standing in.

Or, since his leg is bad and all, maybe he could issue a warning, and if you loot the lockers anyway, then instead of going hostile, he could just say, "I told you not to do that. You're no longer welcome here. Get out." And, of course, no more sheriff quests for you. And your reputation in Redding could go down some.

No, you have more than one chance to get it. I fixed that as part of 2.3.

And the shot also works. (Check your mail.)

34. Yeah, it makes perfect sense that people not let you go through their stuff. But I can't do this...not for a long time, if ever. I mean, other than Vault City, Liz in Broken Hills, and a few others, who cares if you go through their stuff? And why should the sheriff care more or less than any other character in the game? If I add it in for Marion, then I get the request to add it in all over the game.

ah. ok

by the way, i just got to abbey. talked to the head of abbey. he said to go to vault city and get some info. got there, got info, then i came back and all he displayed was a message of 'Error'. if i ask anything and then leave dialog he displays this error. any idea of whats going on? and i use 2.3
 
I tested this just now and his dialog is working fine in my game. Verify that you have this file in your data/text/English/dialog folder: acmonkm.msg.

Also, I don't know what you mean in your last post.

And to anybody else who is interested, I just found a bunch of errors in Carson City. Don't worry about posting any bugs you find there.
 
He displays a floating message of 'Error' and nothing else. and his dialog is in the folder

and its really weird because first time i talk to him he talks normally, and if leave dialogue by any means and talk to him again, even if i didnt take the quest, he displays the error thing

Ok, I found an error in his script. It does incorrectly reference 2 float dialogs. I will fix these. However, I need to know: when he gave you the quest to go to Vault City, did you go there and then go right back to the Abbey? Or did you go somewhere else first and do other quests?

Actually, it might not matter. You did something earlier in the game that he doesn't like. I need to change this script. The way it is now, he will get mad at you for doing something, even though you had no idea about the quests he may send you on. I have some work to do here...

I'll probably just have to make it so that, if you have already done another certain quest, he will not offer you any of his quests.
 
nothing between, plus the fact that by simply leaving dialogue and talking to him again, without talking to no one else and not leaving the map, he already got like this

is it possible to fix this and not having to make another game?

by the way the scripts are in the scripts folder right (duh)? the int files? how do you open then?

and by getting mad do you mean the verti thing?

No. Certain global variables are set. It's possible to make a new one or to modify an existing script to reset them, though. But that is, in essence, a cheat. I intend to get this working properly.

There are tools, threads, and tutorials on this site that will tell you all you need to know about how to do this.


EDIT: And your question below is not about a bug, so I will leave it to you to find out or let somebody else tell you.
 
also another question. if you get the quest from abbey, will you not be able to get the one from the others?
 
Lately i've been thinking a lot that, for example, i would like i side quest where you could some misterious harbor that would have few persons there, to keep the feeling, and that you would be able to be in touch with lots of pre-war machinery, be able to work on a ship with the proper skills, and make it run and able to input coordinates to reach some "secret" places.

[I always felt that misterious feeling about the oilrig when looking from outside, but inside it just looked like a building which kinda was a deception]

(back to my story) The ship would be cool to introduce some asian art to the game, since i never knew why F2 had katanas and stuff. Yeah, asian gangs make them. Nope just doesnt fit, imo. This way it could be added some katanas, shurikens, ninja/samurai "armors".

It just opens a lot of brainstorming adds, like islands with army depots, mutants that manage to leave the continent to island, you name it.


(This all started because some topics started to have pics with a guy and a katana, that the graphic didn't look very right but the idea isn't bad at all)
