Megamod 2.3 technical issues and suggestions

Thanks again for the list. Now:

43. Corrected.

44. What I meant was corrected was the disappearing car at the warehouse encounter. If you lost it there, it would never come back. I looked at the map script, and did find one error, but it should not have made a difference in creating the car... only destroying it, which didn't matter anyway since that map is never saved. Anyway, I will start a new game and check to see if I corrected the bug.

45. The tunnel is there, close to where you came out. But the roof appears over that section of cave, so you need to walk far to the left before you will see it.

46. No, I haven't fixed this yet. But I will just remove the lootable armor addition to that script.

47. Actually, there was another dialog that was appearing that I had fixed. I will correct this one.

48. Corrected

..., do I understand it well, that NPCs do not level right now?

They should still level up. I mean, I didn't change the frequency that would occur. Definitely didn't remove it. It's still just a percentage chance that they level up when you do.

I'm now on level 6 and none of my companions still leveled up. But lets hope they will... is there a working savegame editor? : :)

Edit: I installed new updated 2.31, but that stupid Klint still refuses to trade with me after he gets armor. ("This critter won't trade with you" or something.) Probably a good time to get rid of him... althou he is good at healing :)

I'm running 2.31 here. If none of you guys figured out the NPC levelling issue: you have to get Klint out of your party before you get enough experience to level up. I figured it out the hard way. Might just start over for, like, the 10th time. :)
That Klint fellow makes things unnecesarily complicated, I'm not taking him this time until something is done about him! *smashes fist on table* :P

Seems as though I was mistaken about something. Cubik said he would add those files to the downloads. He added comments to the readme that these files had indeed been added. However, opening the archives shows that the required files are not in either version of the download (neither from the English portal or the Polish portal). So the patch is required.
I downloaded version 2.31 from FMC, on 12/05, but Klint wasn't gaining levels, then today i downloaded the patch (mm_2.3_to_2.31_patch.rar), but the issues with him, including the "This critter can't carry anything", are still there. Would i have to start a new game to have this problems fixed?

EDIT: Well, i think i was being stupid... i'm wondering if i crapped my game... Before applying the patch, Sulik and Vic were acting normally... After applying it, Sulik was with '93/85 hp' and Vic with '78/70 hp'. Oh, hell!

Ok, i arrived in Vault City. The first time i tried to enter the Inner City, coming from the Courtyard, the game crashed, and kept crashing for many times, until i got lucky enough. But i think this is... um... "normal".
In the Courtyard, the prison's door is isn't locked. I know it's supposed to be, but it isn't. And when i open it, and talk to that Average Peasant, he keeps saying the door's still locked.

Crashing repeatedly at the same point is never normal. I can only recall one thing that caused a game to crash repeatedly upon entering a new map: corrupted proto files in the critters or items folders. Not sure if this is the case, though. I could be wrong, though, since you said you got it to work. However, I would not be surprised if you have more problems later.

As for the prisoners inside the courtyard, this was part of something I removed at the last minute... additions from Alternative Life that were extremely buggy. For now just ignore them. I will add dialog, quests, and proper scripts to the doors and other NPCs when I have sorted out those problems.

Yeah, this happened in Klammath too, but i can't remember the moment/situation.

And what about my saved game? Don't you give me any hope that Sulik will keep levelling up correctly? Is there any way i can fix this?

Getting Miria into party

This is my first post here and I don't know if it was mentioned before, but I noticed that talking to Grisham prevents one from getting Miria into party - be it buying jerky, taking his quest or clicking on him after sleeping with Miria - famous black screen.

So if you want her in your party you can't talk with her father.
You get either Miria or 1000 bucks for quest. Tough choice :D

Well, I hope it helps with finding what is wrong.

There was a post previously about not talking to him after he catches you with Miria, but not about talking to him at all. This really does help. Thanks.

Is this normal?

No, Demonslayer, that is not normal. Since that doesn't happen with everyone, I am guessing there is a problem with Nagor's script. I will look into this one. Thanks.

Now, for some good news. Some testing has revealed the cause of party NPC leveling problems. The following files, created on November 28th, are in your proto/critter folders, and should not be there:

00000062.pro
00000079.pro
00000089.pro
00000097.pro
00000107.pro
00000152.pro
00000160.pro
00000161.pro
00000163.pro
00000164.pro
00000165.pro
00000191.pro
00000195.pro
00000196.pro
00000197.pro
00000265.pro
00000342.pro
00000379.pro
00000380.pro
00000384.pro
00000471.pro

Many of these are protos for various NPCs at different levels. Delete them, and your characters should revert to leveling up normally. DO NOT DELETE ALL PROTOS FROM NOVEMBER 28th! Some of them are supposed to be there.

Cubik, please remove these from all versions of the mod. (Also, I told you so. ;) )

Actually is happening with everyone. But i guess it has something to do with the fact i'm playing with 300% on all skills :?

Also some text errors/descriptions that might have been reported already:

I will check on those mislabeled items. Thanks again. But...

How did you get 300 in all skills? Did you use the Fallout hintbook? Or something else?

I used a char edit.
This one:

As a non-developed/modder i'm wild guessing that might be because the char editor gives the 300% on the skill and because i have it tagged it might give another 20% causing some kind of overflow.

Yet again, probably aint that.
I was finding weird that my char only did less than 10 damage with bare hands with the skills maxed and had the names "heavy punch" or something on the weapon tab. I think i remember it should have another name when it gets high skills. In a last resort the editor didn't do what it was suposed to.

Guess i'll start a new game tomorrow with the skills at 150% and see what happens.

Then enjoy the game playing with the character editor. Seriously. But, I don't want to hear about any bugs. I am not interested in making this compatible with a character editor, and there are all sorts of crazy things that could happen. Thanks anyway.

Edit: Demonslayer just PMed me about adding the Fallout hintbook to an early map and using it early in the game. This really is a good idea if you want to max out your skills and get all sorts of levels to play the game... definitely the best way to go. This way, you don't have to worry about any errors being introduced by a character editor.

Edit 2: Regarding that text mentioning the goo on the computer and the barrel, I have corrected this. The reason for the error is that Lich used a piece of computer scenery and a barrel in order to create the effect he wanted. I added a new script and dialog to this scenery.

The XP you gain for stealing stuff increases with each item you take at one sweep: 10 for first, 20 for second, 30 for third and so on. The maximum experience you can gain for stealing stuff this way is 300 - Skill level so 0 XP is perfectly normal at a skill of 300%

ah.. i finally found this thread :)

anyways... i started a new game or two since the last thread and now i'm stuck in Klamath due to Klint. it seems that i can adjust his combat readinesss, ie... coward, hostile, aggressive, etc... and i keep getting my ass handed to me because he keeps running away from a few rats.

i'd take a screenshot, but for some silly reason my "PrtScn" doesn't want to work. no idea why. i do use PSPX with all the bells and whistles and it's never done this before.

is there something else i can use? i'm downloading Gimp now to see if that works.

But you didn't read it. Or, if you did, there is no way I could know since you didn't mention something else I would need to know. Klint works fine. So, go back and read the first page (and the other pages too). After you have done that, then let me know if you are having problems with him.

I have some updates on bugs.

Ok, i arrived in Vault City. The first time i tried to enter the Inner City, coming from the Courtyard, the game crashed, and kept crashing for many times, until i got lucky enough.

This happens to me every time I enter VC inner city (and only VC IC) for the first time in any new game, usually 2-4 times. I did a fresh reinstall and it still happens. Once I have entered VC inner city in that game without a crash, it works fine every time afterwords. Wildness.

There are some personal guards in V14 who had a low hitpoint total. Now they have a much larger hp pool, but when encountered only have like 44/370 (not exact numbers sorry). It makes them go down quite easy, but then the person they are guarding (who has a correct and rather large hp pool) picks up thier weapons and kills me with em.

Is there any way to make the doors in V14 stay open once opened? I had dropped the key at one point inside, and left. I was locked out. Luckily I had a save while still inside to find it. It's just a hassle to me when you have reason to go in and out of there you need the key each time. If it's too trivial or "more of a feature than a bug" I can live with it.

Now I am gonna go back to Modoc with some new chars and check on that "never speak to Grisham" report. I thought I had spoken with him before I got married a couple times. I will report what I find.

Thanks for the report.

I really don't know what to say to this. Obviously it shouldn't happen. It's just weird that it seems to resolve itself after a few visits.

Solon said:

Oh, yeah, this was a mistake. They had low hit points originally. But I changed their proto files. Unfortunately, the map still has the old hit point values. I will update the map.

Solon said:

It always made sense to me to have the doors close, to ensure that people only entered areas they were supposed to be in. It is my plan to keep it as it is.

um.. this is spose to read "it seems that i can't adjust his combat readinesss, ie...

anyways... i have read this thread over more than a few times, so maybe it's just me and i missed something... but when i talk to Klint and hit "Combat Control" to bring up the "disposition" screen, all the choices: beserk, aggressive, defensive, coward, custom, are not highlighted.
the only one that is clickable is the custom settings, but when i click on custom, none of the other settings will work, ie... click on "burst" and i can't change anything there. i can trade with him and everything else but i just can't change his disposition.

it would be easier if i could get screens and show you exatly what i'm talking about so i don't look like a asshat.
