Megamod 2.4 Technical Issues and Suggestions

The fact that you are getting the "Pssst, come over here" (or whatever it is) shows that that critter's script is working. There is no reason why only half of a script would work. The only workaround would be to use a game editor to maybe change the global variable responsible to get the quest. However, that would not force dialog, it would just trigger the next step (to talk to someone else).

Wait... Just to be on the safe side, what are the timestamps you have for vctyctyd.gam (data/maps folder), vctyctyd.int and vcprison.int (both in data/scripts folder)?

However, now that I think about it, you've got something else going on. I never changed the script for the guard in NCR. So, there is no reason that one should not work for you.
 
Well, trial and error ... I figured it out.

It is sfall 2.9.7 ...

Not sure what about it, or if it is just a setting in the ddraw.ini that I need to change, but something causes not only the talking problems I reported, but, I can't talk to ANY of the intelligent deathclaws either (other than Gorlis)

Phew. Nice to get past that.
 
got some more problems that i need help with :(

Scrap town is bugged for me, if i dont out right crash, i will start getting saves that crash, like the problem i had earlier. with primative village when i get to the actual village i cant scroll the screen.
 
I am having Issues with save corruption, please list the files needed and exact order of installation and special instructions to run fallout 2 with the latest megamod and @ high resolution. This is what I have and the order i have used by file name : mm_2.35_full_repack, mmpatch2_35_2, MIB88_Megamod_Patch_24, MM_2_41 files, MM 2_42 patch, then the latest high res patch v2.2c, then party orders addon v1.0d, then in ddraw.ini changed the line sfallExtraCRC=0xed141a65 for compatibility with MM use 8bit mode. and changed MAP_EDGES_NAME=MegaMod242 in f2_res.ini, also there was a runfirst and runme bats that cam with the megamod files and i ran them in that order. If someone can point out where I went wrong or have left out something please help, thank you.
 
I have a weird bug, every enemy keeps running away from me...
I installed the game (US version), 1,02 patch and all mod files from 2.31 to 2.42.

My armour class (wearing a leather armor) is 105... I know in vanilla fallout2 it would have been something around 20-30...

I never cheated or edited my savegame in any way, just started a new Game...

Sry if this has been discussed before, but right now I lack the time for a thorough forum scan.

I Love this mod and am very eager to continue playing, yet its basically impossible with every enemy running away...
 
new problem, Klint doesnt change with his armor like he should. He visibly changes, but he still has the same stats. How long does drug addiction last, becuase i seem to be permanently addicted to rad away and maybe some other drugs, i have -3 pe and -30 carry weight. I tried reinstalling megamod but it didn't seem to help. Was i suppose to set the fallout2/proto/critters to read only, as well as data/proto/critters?



also i didnt install any patches, could that be my problem?

1. klint is pretty bugged, you know... nothing to do with this
2. from 3-5 days to 1-2 weeks or so
3. yes, you should to do this just after installing fallout and mods
4. maybe
 
OK sorry if i wasn't clear, but i mean official patches. If you think i should install the official patches, do i install before mega mod?

also the Addiction did go away at some point, but i still have the penalties as i suspected. ill try reinstalling the mod again and hope to fix some of my problems.

I imagine if i need to install official patch i need to do so before megamod is installed, is that correct?

i also just realized that patch 2.41 added a run first bat, that the read me didn't mention. So if i was suppose to run that, it may be a problem

ok so i did a new install to a new directory, intall 1.02, delete patch.000, deletes data. install mega mod ran runme install 2.4 install 2.41 ran runfirst installed 2.42, set /fallout2/proto and /data/proto/critters and /items to read only. I then copied the old saves and i still have the same problems, with stats, klint and primitive tribe

I noticed that the megamod from files section of the site says its verson 2.35.2 but the readme from the zip says its 2.35.1. If this is not a typo, then the version in the files section has the wrong version.

i doubt this is related but i have to remove a line from fallout2.cfg to get the game to run, it would suck if that was the problem the whole time :)

are the saves already with Klint , wrong stats and damaged primitive tribe? if yes, you must start a new game. if no - try to download latest version from Nirran's site and install just that
 
did another install using mod from nirrans sight, new game did a quick run to primative village same problem
 
I downloaded nirran's complete megamod and pretty much did everything in the same order as prinygod but am still having crash on save issues in arroyo.
 
Yes, i have same issue. With proto files marked as"read only" AND Klint in my party, every saved game becomes corrupted. (v2.42)
Also, there are some map issue in the Primitive Tribe with default resolution - 640x480px.

I'll address some of the other issues mentioned over the past few days later. However, regarding those corrupted games, tell me if you had the following issue: Did you save the game and exit upon asking Klint to join you (or join you again) or when his armor was changed? Would you mind testing this out? Play and save your games as normal, making sure that if you do either of those two things, making sure to enter a new map first. I think this will prevent those saved games from becoming corrupted.
 
I thought Klint might have had something to do with it but I remember that at least on one of those occasions was with a cheat(All Stats 10) character that I use when I want to play solo and pretty much do what I want and so I had never hired Klint when it crashed on save, and a couple of times It happened before I got the chance to rehire him as a female after passing the temple of trials.

I am sorry, I really don't understand why this is happening to you. It appears as though you installed everything right. You say Klint wasn't the cause. I don't have any other suggestions.

Three things. First, I can't replicate this. Leather armor in my game, my latest playtest, is working just fine, and provides an AC on my character of 23.

Second, where did you get the idea to patch your game with the 1.02 patch? That may possibly be an issue... maybe. However, the chances of that are slim, because just about every file in the official 1.02 patch has been overwritten by a MM file, anyway.

Third, just a pet peeve of mine: Don't say you don't have time to do a forum search due to a lack of time. If you can't find something, that's ok. In this case, you wouldn't have found it even if you had looked, because I am pretty sure no one has mentioned this before. But, if you don't have time to search, then you don't have time to play.

I know I say this every few releases, but Klint will be less buggy with the next release.

Addictions/penalties do stick with you for a while. However, make sure that the penalties are really do to drug withdrawals. If you have a problem with your perception, it may be because you saved the game and exited when you were in a sandstorm or something. If you do that, that can mess up your character, and cause perception to stay below normal.

As for official patches, again, where is that coming from? I never said to install it.

It didn't really matter if the files in the /fallout2/proto folder were read-only or not. Those files are added to the master/dat file when the runme.bat file is launched. Regarding a 2.35.2 readme file: there wasn't one. The only difference between 2.35.1 and 2.35.2 was one map file.

Finally, what is the line that you had to change in your fallout2.cfg file?

I haven't gotten to the Slaver Camp yet in my latest test. However, for the people who are having issues with Scraptown and the Primitive Tribe locations loading up, I haven't been able to replicate those bugs.
 
Bit of an odd one here. Whenever I try to load a save (fresh, not from an old install), it says that it is "Unable to load". This is after I emptied my old saves (while the game was running) because of an inability to save over them directly from the game, probably due to me checking the entire data folder as read-only.

Where did I go wrong?

EDIT: I also can't seem to save outside the temple. That might be due to Klint, but who am I to say?

You're right, MIB88 - it works. After passing the Temple of trials, i've recruited Klint and we travels straightaway to Klamath (new map). Here i've tried save my game and everything works fine. Thanks for advice.
(Also, when i've tried save in Arroyo, right after recruiting Klint, game crashes during save process - i wrote this only for confirmation.)
 
I think I figured out what my problem was, I downloaded the "portable fallout 2 + restoration project + high res" torrent (I dont consider it piracy as I have the original CDs from the first 2 games except their severely scratched as they are 10 years old! and i liked the idea of nothing in the registry and running from USB on any computer) and even though i deleted the Data folder there must have still been something that was incompatible, I reinstalled from vanilla disk and did everything I knew to do and I havent had an issue since, Ive made it with a character all the way to klamath with klint in tow and no issues so far and I save quite often, I started a new game and while i usually play while watching TV this time I didnt and I noticed there was no background music. I restarted the game over and over but no BGM, what could this be? The only thing I did different was I made the entire protos folder and subfolders and files read only whereas before it was just the critters and items and the proto folder itself that I would make read only but the music folders isnt even in there so it shouldnt be a problem right? Please point me in the right direction as it ruins the game for me.


EDIT: Sorry guys, waste of a post, I was able to fix the problem by copying and pasting the music files from the CD to the install directory, On a side note and im sure to get flamed for this, is there a character editor that works w/ megamod? I know it ruins the experience but sometimes when Im buzzed I just want to run around doing what I want in my leather jacket fucking the wasteland up!
EDIT2: Ive played earlier versions of the megamod before and by my estimates I should have run across at least 5 skill books by now but they are all missing, sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere but can someon clarify what the deal is with the skill books?
