[MOD] Item descriptions

I'll upload to the nexus when I'm finished - what's up so far are WIP pieces intended to get input on.

What I'll be most grateful for is fedback on the quality of my writing and descriptions (shouldn't be hard to find I think). If you find anything that is wonky or weird and have a better idea of how to describe it, post it here.

Credit will be given, no worries.

Allright, I'm a serious fanboy, but I'm sure others agree with me: the originaler the better. I'd like the descriptions to be as much alike the original FO2/FO1 ones as possible, the ideal would be to have them identical. Obviously this poses a challenge with regards to weapons and equipment that weren't in those games (like the fat man, but there's a lot of inspiration to collect from the manual, like you already did). Also, I think the original FO1/FO2 images are better than the vaultboys!

I know you can't please everybody, but everybody wants item descriptions. Why don't you tell us exactly what you use so we can do this ourselves? For instance, how did you unpack the .bsas, where are the files located and how do you edit .dds files? This would be a great help to me at least. Anyway, those are my two bottlecaps.

I love the describtion of the combat shotgun. Every weapon should have something like this (I know it is difficult to come up with something that fresh everytime..)

I've posted the .psd item description template on the second page of this thread.

I use Timeslip's excellent FOMM tool to extract the textures.

To edit the .dds texture files, you need the appropriate Photoshop plugin (Google is quick to give a lot of results), then edit the Alpha channel of the interface textures.

Anywhoo, which are the worst descriptions so far that I should be overhauling?

haha funny as I just wanted to do this but didn't know how and just checked this thread as it was updated xD Thanks for the info :P

EDIT:

hmm... when i extract a dds from the items, weapons or apparel folder all I get is a white empty picture. The others work fine but those three folders give me nothing. How did you get them to work? :P

The images are contained in the alpha channel of those images. You need some good editing software to edit them.

motorcycle football sounds like a fun sport

great idea, nice work around but i figure the text needs to be redone as it seems so small/cluttered together i had a real hard time reading it.

good job nonetheless!

I've used an 18 font. D:

It's temporary, though, until we get the CS and can start altering the game. Then, proper descriptions can be realized.

Version 1.0 is finished!

Included are descriptions for weapons, armours and miscellaneous items. Please report any grammatical errors/post your descriptions for inclusion if you think they are better.

Oddly, it seems it doesn't need any entry in ArchiveInvalidation.txt to work.

Should be available from NMA shortly!

You are a God. You have restored a little bit of fallout to this game. The item descriptions were always awesome, and it hurt to lose them. Thanks again.

dude! you rock!

great mod, it gives us back a little bit of the fallout flavor.

I honestly cant say how much I love this mod. One thing I noticed tho is if the graphics are tuned to the lowest settings the text is almost unreadable.
