More from Carsten on Fallout 3

The thing is we (I) don't want that. I think we deserve much better, as the initial promise of Fallout 3 made us all hope for something really good. So if someone makes the game, they'd better make it good, or not at all. And the graphics in S2 are huuuyaa so don't say anything about that. True, there was a time when CRPG 3D graphics were ugly, but not today. Silent Storm is easily the best-looking non-FPS game I've ever played.

CRPG in 3D looks nice, with the exception of the Fall. That has to be some of the ugliest graphics I've ever seen. They look 4 or 5 years old, at least. Something with european games, indeed.

Basicly what I was thinking...

Then, I started killing them. I was a level 2 for god's sake!

You must be exaggerating here, Sander. If your character was only level 2, you are actually saying that you encountered Deathclaws at the end of the first mission (Brahmin Wood) or during the second mission (Freeport) and there were no Deathclaws in those missions. It's even very unlikely that you stumbled upon some Deathclaws while travelling the Wastelands (unless that is your idea of playing FOT - scouting the whole map from the start). Nah, the first Deathclaws you'll encounter in FOT are to be found in Quincy and that's the 6th mission. By that time you should have reached level 7, at least, and you should have obtained one of them Neostead Shotguns. Come on! A level 2 character doesn't stand a chance against a FOT Deathclaw - unless, maybe, with a very decent Shotgun and lots and lots of luck. Huh! I say... you're lying!

And saying that you like the game engine from FO/FO2 better than the one that was used for FOT, is a weird statement. Have you ever played FO/FO2 on a 17/19 inch screen? The graphics suck big time, man. They look like Lego or something. That's the main reason why I stopped playing those games. Now FOT with the anti-aliased tiles and characters and resolutions up to 1024x768 in 32-bit color, that's what I call class. It is a slow engine, though, but that never really bothered me.
What are you going to do when Fallout 3 is going to be made with a state of the art 3D engine? It's true: I like 2D engines better myself, but then I do expect to see some nice graphics...

Wow... I can't believe my eyes... Someone agree's...

I think FOT is pritty much what I wanted to see is all of those games... It still captures me... and that's what a RPG needs...

No, acually, I['m not really lying. I just have really bad memory. I haven't played it in a long while and can't remember what I did. All I remember is that they were too cute, and were way too easy to kill.

And saying that you like the game engine from FO/FO2 better than the one that was used for FOT, is a weird statement. Have you ever played FO/FO2 on a 17/19 inch screen?
I am playing it like that now, actually. I'm not saying the graphics are better, I'm sayign that FOT's engine is crap(speed-wise, really, the people who made it should be shot), and that the graphics were too slick for me. Too....neat and bright. I don't have any problems with a good-looking graphics engine(as long as it will run on my machine), but I just didn't like the feel of the FOT graphics for the FO universe. Atmosphere is one of the main points of Fallout for me.

The graphics suck big time, man. They look like Lego or something. That's the main reason why I stopped playing those games.
YOu stopped playing them? :O

Well, it bothers me a LOT. WHen I can play Max Payne with everything turned on or halfway there, and experience NO problems AT ALL, and I then play FOT and I can't even put the graphics halfway, and I STILL experience stutter, THEN I start being really pissed off at the talentless hacks(Gollum! ;)) who made that engine. I hate that.

Then I'm going to buy a new PC. ;)

All I'm saying is that the FOT graphics didn't fit the FO universe, nothing more, nothin less...

Agreed, not much in Fot fit the FO universe either though.

Yip.

This discussion is weird.

As "good/underrated" as Fallout: Tactics might've been (I wouldn't know, I pronounced it would suck when it was made clear it would be a non-RPG Fallout and didn't buy it), it's not a Fallout RPG. Snake; even if people agree certain elements of Tactics, like the engine or, more importantly, the team-based gameplay, are good, they still don't fit into the Fallout RPG universe. The Fallout games should have nothing to do with Tactics, no matter how good or bad that game is.

Also, Fallout 3/VB was being made with Jefferson's 3D engine, a fact Saint P still loathes

I don't think Fallout 3 should be made 2D. And especially no Fallout Tactics graphics, those didn't really fit the Fallout mood all the time. Although It might be hard to carry on the legacy with a 3D engine, which I think many Fallout fans (including myself) are worried about.

Like I said... I don't like 1st and 3rd person shooters or action games...

Yet you liked Tomb Raider and GTA? Bizarro Worldo mate.

Fallout needs to stay Fallout...
Exactly. No hairy deathclaws, no fot engine and no other 'my dog is gay' taunts thnx.

If you wish to flame me... go a head... I just give my opinion... but I ain't here to discus NON Fallout games... it was just an example...
If someone calls you an idiot it's his opinion. It's the exact same thing as your opinion, just a bit more blunt and fact-based.

Just respect everyone for giving THEIR opinion... If that's a crime these days... I'd rather be a criminal !
Yeah, though you seem happy being a moron.

You just seem a little silly. You threw GTA3 at some guy because it wasn't top-down? I enjoyed GTA1 a lot, played it a lot too. GTA2 was a bit meh. An average game I thought? The cars didn't really look like anything and the radio sucked. GTA3 was the rocka and the rolla though. It was a lot easier to drive and generally get more absorbed into it. I'd put it on par with the first game, mabye even better.

Basically I think you're stupid. A little like an artsy fag but for games. At least CCR chooses good stuff to piss and moan about, your gaming opinions seem to be hit and miss and full of contradictions mebbe?

Cheers.

I still don't want Silver Style to make Fallout 3. Since you seem to care so much about graphics, have you seen the fall? It looks like the original fallout in 3d. Shitty. But the Fallout graphics fit the game as well as being good(ish) for the time?

I just checked the latest Fall screens. Same ugliness and general animation crap as before. I can even SEE the choppy sound (Chaser, Devastation,...) just by looking at the screenshots. So I therefore stand by my previous statement that European games generally suck, graphically and other. This game doesn't look like Fallout, doesn't have the same gameplay (squad based, FOT, Jagged, S2) and doesn't seem to have the same kind of mood in it. I wouldn't want them to develop FO3.

First of all, I think we would need more Fallout fans for bigger companies to be interested in the license (but not too much, we don't want EA in there).
One of the reasons they're making a sequel to HL is that it sold over a million copies. I'm not sure, but I think letting more experienced developers (I still don't see what's wrong with Bioware) know there are a lot of people who want this game would help us getting it.

Also, the game shouldn't be developed by Europeans. Not only because European games are craptastic, but also because of the special humor and the 50's atmosphere, something only an American developer could recreate.

Flame me if you must, but I'd much prefer it if you were to correct me, as I suspect I'm still a little ignorant in the matter.

Silent Storm also comes from Europe.

psst...stalker

I'd rather it be made by Americans though. It's similair to if Americans made a game about historic periods in Europe. It'd be good but they may lack the experience(you get taught your countries history and live there)/patriotism too make a game?

First of all, as You all know, Deathclaws were taken from fantasy setting and [dont make eyes, that was in the bibles] was intended hairy initially. Then the hair would be removed [thank God!] and iin the Fallout universe they appeared as non-hairy-expa-tanks-egg-laying-lizard-monsters.

That was a piece of concept art that MCA dug up. However, the Deathclaw is hommage to the Shadowclaw from Wasteland, which is a large, orange lizard thing.

Well, we don't know what Shadowclaw from Wasteland reallu looked like, since all lizards shared the same portrait. But yes, it was definitely a lizard.

As for American RPGs about Europe.. remember Lionheart?

megatron ---> Who is the idiot here... What the F*CK are you talking about mate... just stfu and mind your own god damn business...

I stayed friendly... Kiss my hairy little deathclaw butt... I don't care who you are but you should keep things decent... it's a god damn forum... let people state their opinion.. You don't have to flame every word you don't like...

Asshole... <--- let me put it like this... I "THINK" you're an asshole !

EDIT: Please do something about this idiot flamer...

Sorry, you're the one doing the flaming now.

And anyway, I said MOST European games are blah, with a few exceptions of course. But the only really good part about Silent Storm is the graphics (errmm... voiceovers... errm). And Stalker isn't out yet , so who knows? (although I admit it looks very very promising).

Also, I would like to add that for Fallout 3 to really be Fallout 3, we shouldn't be able to see the player's face. :)

Snake, take a step back and calm down. Your argumentation isn't the best I've seen here, so relaxe..

Odin ---> yeah man, I'm sorry... I just don't like to be called an idiot and a moron... Who are they to judge someone on their opinion...

It's a forum, forums were made to state opinions on certain topics... not to flame out other for giving them...

I'll close this topic for me now... I heard enough ! I'll continue my work without anyone's idea's, opinions or comments...

And ok ok, I was up all day and night... haven't slept for 36 hours +

So I might just be tired...

Odin, let me know if you need more Background info...

Uhm. I wasn't saying that.
Maybe some of you wondered.
I was only saying that FOT is good on its own merits.
That's all.

And that I wouldn't want to see a 3D Fallout 3.
Ah, come on.
If you people felt that the FOT engine already screwed up the atmosphere, then how do you think you're going to feel when you have to travel the wastelands in full 3D?
You think 3D isn't going to screw up the atmosphere?
Hell yeah!
Look at those Van Buren screenshots.
The one in the vault and the one with the carwreck are nice, I admit.
But that's only because they could just as well have been made with a state of the art 2D engine.
Then look at that start screen.
If you can zoom in like that, nah, that totally fucks up the Fallout atmosphere for me.
And it's suspicious.
Hell, all of a sudden, it looks like you're in a poor Max Payne Mod.
Hell, some developer might even start thinking about r$$ly awesome perks called 'Bullet time' and what have you not.
Hell yeah!
Think about it.

So: 2D.
Maybe full 3D animated character models but in a 2D world.
Maybe.

And made by Troika. :)
