Movie thread

I bought Legend (Ultimate Edition) last week, and damn is it good. Comes with the US Theatrical release DVD along with a Directors Cut DVD that has a brand new set of scores to listen to and lots of extra goodies thrown in to make the story better.

If you liked Labyrinth and Dark Crystal you'll like this one too.

Yesterday i saw Fifth Element on dvd.
The move itself is a bit lame, i really did enjoy Gary Oldman's play in it though.

And most recent list:
Apocalypse now!
Jacob's ladder
Twelve monkeys
Platoon
Blade runner

All very good movies, IMO.

Did you choose too watch a bunch of really good movies in a row or what.

Recently I watched Day of the Dead and Under Siege 2. Day of the Dead isn't as good as I remember it, but it's an okay zombie flick. Under Siege 2 was pretty good. I was suprised that it was better than the first one, though it didn't have any topless women.

Treading on thin ice there pal. Few people get away with insulting the Fifth Element.

How dare you speak badly of Steven Seagal!! Didn't you know he is the greatest inspiration for all other fat action film actors that have been dying to make it in Hollywood?!

I saw Hellboy last week and it was entertaining fun, i've never read the comics though or any comics for that matter.
I saw Kill Bill 2 today and I liked it, not a lot of action like the first but some cool dialoges and interesting characters.

Last film I saw: Cable Guy

Seems like that is one of those love-hate movies. I actually rather enjoyed it, Carey's character was so pathetic and sad in his horrible way that it almost made me cry.

Oh, and Vin Diesel, Stevie Seagal and VanDamme are like the three shittiest actors in history. I'd go as far as to say that the average acting in a Troma movie is way better.

Best Steven Seagal flick - Executive Decision. Watching him get blown out of an airplane miles above the ocean was just fun. My wife even laughed.

Best Vin Diesel- Pitch Black- a pretty cool Sci-Fi flick really.

Best Van Damme- Bloodsport. Something about a secret, illegal fighting event involving the best fighters around the world- simple enough plot that you couldn't do too many stupid things (although the film did try). I have to admit I liked Hard Target a bit. A nice play on the story, "The most dangerous game." and I didn't mind either Legionaire or Double Impact too much.

B rated actors all having trouble making movies these days.

What they need to do is a remake of the Dirty Dozen involving all the B action movie actors in a really good plot.

Quentin Tarantino is making a WWII epic similar to The Dirty Dozen, called Inglorious Bastards. I believe it's going to have Sam Jackson, Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi, and Michael Madsen among others. He's also written a part for Adam Sandler, apparently.

Also - Vin Diesel = good actor/shitty movies.

Kickboxer really isn't that bad either. In fact, Van Damme's not as terrible as most people make him out to be

He's okay, as long as he doesn't have any of those "complicated" speaking parts.

agreed

Actually, i think Vin Diesel has potential to be a good actor, Pitch Black and Boiler Room are examples... the only thing bringing him down are flicks like xXx.

As for Van Damme, my pick is Universal Soldier, which is still kind of corny but i like Dolph Lundgeran.

I liked Hard Target. Though it wasnt that good. And the ending was a little bit like Cobra.

Just ordered bloodsport and half past dead ^-^

I'm seeing Kill Bill Volume 2 tonight.

Went Friday but got to the theatre late.

Saw the rundown right now, okay though with a lack of respect for gravity, wich okay since it looked cool, and it is not too smart.

was in kualalumpur and bought 20 dvds for the price of two in norway yay.

Master and Commander- The Far Side of the World-

Why was this up for an academy award?

I admit, it was kind of cool that virtually the entire story takes place on a ship that's chasing a French privateer across the seas. I like the cramped conditions, the strong battle scenes, the strong emphasis of "life aboard ship" during time of war. Cool, kind of reminded me of Das Boot, except it lacked the strong acting, the characters or the strong message. Master and Commander works best when the main character is the ship itself.

And that's what kills it. The stories, based on Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey- Maturin series...

...were a great read. Fun characters, good stories, interesting history. If you like historical fiction, this is pretty good stuff. That said, the film isn't as good (in plot or action) as the first one of the books, also titled Master and Commander but rather is selective about a number of episodes assorted throughout the series. Visually, the film was worth watching. Battles on the high sees between wooden sailers is pretty spectacular. But if you want to get a better story, read the books.
