New animations 2

Ghouly89, be sure to include in the process the leather armor mk2 i just posted in this thread! :)

Dl'ed them. They look good :) Look's like something I could never do... but re-painting critters is in my ball park :drunk:

Also, do you know who's working on the black player character? I'm pretty sure I've seen it mentioned in one of your threads. Wouldn't wanna step on someone's toes, but if no one's working on it...

If there is no one currently working on it, would you want to split that critter with me? That is, if you are using the method Lisac2k mentioned in his tut vids... I would be up for doing him whilst .Pixote. whips me up a tutorial for the red-head later. Again, this is considering that no one's working on him... :lalala:

It's there now. And I've edited my previous post - if the character is any good, see if you can link the post in your index.

Of course, indexed. :)

Also, (not to be nitpicky or anything) but you missed a frame in the following animations/directions: AB/03, AN/02, BO/02, EB/03, EE/02.

Afaik, no one is.

Huh, something is not right then - when I open it in FrameAnimator, I see all the frames there.

I think those are some of the frames that wouldn't open at first, so I had to manually add them. But that doesn't change the fact that when I open the FRMs they're there for me and not for you. Weird. Any idea what I can do with it (as I can't really see anything missing)?

^Ah, misunderstanding. What i meant is that you missed re-painting those frames...

Ahh, I see it now. That's silly, indeed... Must have accidentaly replaced the faulty frames from the the original BMPs, not the changed BMPs. Serves me right for not double-checking the final product. I'll fix it and the download link today. Well spotted!

Yeah man, let's divide it up. Provided we use the same brush (i.e. same level of 'blackness' for the character), it should be a piece of cake. It would be a lot easier than the black boxer, in a way, as the hero doesn't show much skin - usually just his head/hands).

If there are some guys looking for model to work on, why don't you take the goodfella/bouncer one?
I am the slow working type, and will probably have my hands full with the made man for one or two months anyway...
It's extremely easy, you just need to download the pack with the black jumpsuit and ian-brown pant.
http://rapidshare.com/files/407771656/Ian_max_dark_brown.7z
http://rapidshare.com/files/407771935/blackv13jumpsuit.7z

And the work so far, with the model heads in all direction
http://rapidshare.com/files/407773314/affranchi.7z

Just copy paste Ian onto the corresponding black jumpsuit, the feet make an excellent landmark.
With the rubber, remove the left arm and the right hand (to make the jacket with long sleeve), remove also the head, anker the layer. Copy paste the goodfella head.

Ok, sometimes, the head need some tweeking here and here, like to be modified, or sometime you need to go back to the original model, take a head with a similar movement, resize it, recolor the hat, but it comes easy very quick! Otherwise I will do it later. I will try to make some hard one from time to time.

BTW, copypasting the regular black leather jacket on the black jumpsuit would be an easy way to get the male leather jacket long sleeve.... We already have the female one, but not the male one... That's sad!

If I was to try and help out with this massive undertaking, how do I start?

Say, if I wanted to make the red-haired vault suit NPC a playable character, obviously she'd need the animations she was missing for various weapons, actions, etc..

Since it seems that 80% of doing this is a case of having the patience to spend hours in Photoshop, is there a tutorial/post to get me STARTED extracting out the frms I'd need to an editable format (presumably something with a transparency)? How have others started? I don't want to reinvent the wheel if there's already an established procedure for doing this as quickly/as well as possible.

I'd really like to see this project continue as I love the results already and hate that so many critters lack certain animation sets, but I know that takes as many hands as possible.

So... where's the best place to start for this (and is anyone else doing that character so I don't double up if I can figure it out)?

Also, even if I only get one "extra" set of animations done, hopefully that would let that NPC be used with one more weapon set as an NPC critter, right?

Also, what would be a better place to start... making the VC redhead a playable character or giving one NPC (say, green shirt baldy guy) a "missing" weapon animation? I just want to be helpful here.

Hold off with Mr. Blackie for the time being…it’s better to finish Mr. Baldie, that way the RP can have a new PC critter for its next release, Mr. Blackie will need the full treatment…I will make an ‘action’ in PS that will change his skin color to the appropriate tone and pass it to the modders here, that way different people can do the different armor sets but have the same consistent skin tone. It will be a case of selecting the areas that require change – hands – neck – face – head – and push a single button and it’s done. I realize that there will need to be a series of actions from folder making and naming – importing the images – naming the layers – masking the layers – skin tone changes – export image with the Fallout palette. It cannot be done in one hit, but 4 or 5 actions should do the trick. I will write a tutorial for each stage and action so there shouldn’t be any confusion – but it will require Photoshop.

I’m currently working on the Vault Boxer and rebuilding all of the actions I lost – so I need some time. I want to make this as pain free as possible for the new critter builders… :P

As a small I guess "side project", I'm going to be trying to make a red-haired female hero critter. It would probably take a long time for me, because I just learned the process yesterday (thanks for the tut videos Lisac2k  ) so unless anyone else has that started, I'm gonna try. (For what that's worth)

How you build her is up to you…but could you build her like this…with the highlight in her hair – a more natural looking redhead…(it’s the same hair shape as the original girl – just reddish).

I'd be very fucking interested in brunette with white overal and dark belt instead of the yellow one, for BGE CNPC related business.

Just saying :D

Hi, thanks for showing interest! I'm quite new to this as well, but Josan12 pointed me in the right direction.

Which ones do you use to turn FRMs to editable image files and back into FRM?
Check out Lisac's excellent tutorial vids here
That should get you started on the file types and how to edit them...

You're the boss. besides - I think the black guy better be bald. I've tried a few versions of black guy, but bald looks the best ;)

I agree he looks extra nasty bald and black...

Thanks for the reply and info... I'll check those vids out and see if I can get started on something useful this week... busy day tomorrow but the rest of the week should give me chance to try it out.

As I said, my main concern (I've used Photoshop a lot) is A) learning how FRMs are best edited/created from more standard formats, and B) not slaving away on something someone else is already halfway through working on! :)

I figure every pair of hands here helps, though!

Ok, should be all done now. Here, I've edited the links in my previous posts too. Let me know if you spot anything else - I double checked, but who knows. I don't think you were picking any nits (:)) as much as pointing out what needed to be pointed out. Cheers!

The first of the Vault Boxer critter animations is finished…this guy will be you when you enter the ring at San Francisco. I left the tribal bands on the critter because editing it just isn’t worth the time and effort, as well for all we know the PC just pulled the vault suit over their tribal gear – I imagine that might explain why so many characters always refer to the Chosen One as a tribal throughout the game, even though they look like a Vault dweller – anyway this version fights barehanded so there won’t be any gloves…but it will be the basis for the gloved version.

Included is my Photoshop file – it might be useful for understanding how I make the critters…I will supply the "actions" after I have made some tutorials to explain how and when to use them…otherwise chaos might occur. PS – Boxer Critter

Great stuff Pixote. I love him. And as i'm sure you know, for New Reno boxing and SF martial arts a player critter needs only a very limited set of animations, as there's really very little he can do in the ring - way i see it:

Walk
Run (?)
Punch
Kick (for SF only)
Knockdown front
Knockdown back
Get up front
Get up back
Hit front
Hit back
Dodge

Keep up the good work :ok:
