New game, Bioshock.

Played the demo on the 360. It's very system shockish. If you like SS2, you'll like it, I'm sure. I liked the atmosphere a lot. Good voice acting too.

The plasmids are fun, the weapons seem good too, although everything is happening way too fast for the wrench to be any fun.

The only thing that I didn't like was character animation. That's one thing that made them stick out too much. Everything else is very pretty though.

Levine is a PC gamer at heart Pope Viper. I wouldn't worry too much. if anything, the pc version should be even more kickass. ;)

the PC Demo is out .. i'm so excited :) downloading it now from Softpedia ... eta 1 hour :D

bah, that site fails a wee bit into the download for me. I'm going through the pirate bay now downloading the torrent but... I dont think it will be finished before I have the actual game. heh lame

This is exceedingly lame. That Softpedia site's download doesn't work for me (same problem as Maphusio, I believe), and the torrent, despite having 5 bajillion seeds and leechers, downloads at a snail's pace. ~_~

i finally got the demo off torrents (is it ok if i say this?) myself after softpedia broke down under the pressure ...

havent had time to play a lot ... but from i can tell from the demo .. the fps element is high .. but the story and the surrounding scripted sequences are so rich and abundant .. the music is spot on .. i got the fallout bumps :P ... its very very thick .. and LOL immersive through its narative ... not very rpgish tho :( so its like 50% system shock

i think they said that it won't have much rpg elements.... they advertised it as a "deep shooter"...

BTW, they also said that the game will change the way people think of FPS's... Think of it, system shock 1 had a deeper gameplay than Doom or it's clones but wasn't a mass success.... later SS2 was even more superior than it's predecessor but it was shadowed by the overhyped Half-Life, which lacked several things that SS2 had. Even Deus Ex was a vastly superior game than it's contemporary fellas, but didn't provided much influence for developers... the DX franchise later failed because of it's rather rushed and unoriginal offspring

Conclusion is that i don't believe that BioShock will provide much influence for game design, and developers will continue making multiplayer focused games, poor HL inspired Virtual Movies and single player tech demos (cough...Crysis...cough) :(

It's a free demo, downloading it through torrents shouldn't conflict with laws or forum rules (though I could be wrong).

I just commend your luck on getting it to download faster than 6KB/sec (the highest my download hit, though for the most part it stayed under 1KB/sec).

Well, I finished the PC demo a moment ago.

I have to say, it's mostly hype, as I suspected. Old FPS stuff in a new wrapping - graphics. Many features are taken from System Shock, like the cameras and audio-diaries you find lying around. The demo even had one of those ghost encounters. It feels pretty much like SS2 with a modern engine minus the RPG elements.

Plasmids are simply additional magic-like weapons, eve acts as mana. When it comes to hacking cameras and bots, you have to either play fucking stupid pipe dream (arrgh minigames) or pay some dollars which you can find lying around the place (what a stupid solution).

So yeah, great graphics, great atmosphere and interesting story....BUT the gameplay is far from revolutionary. Just your run of the mill FPS.

euhm... as if a run of the mill has great atmosphere and an interesting story...

besides, i think i'd play this game for the graphic environment alone. seems like a good time to play tourist.

Be sure to wear protective eyewear. The bloom might kill you.

Let me quote to you from the first developer diary:
"BioShock is a revolution in the shooter genre that will forever change the expectations for the FPS.
So, in terms of gameplay, do you claim to see that in Bioshock?

a few reviews have stated that the intro etc is kind of a let down (the demo portion, i guess), but that it picks up.

me, i'm perfectly happy with the demo (but that's because i've never let anyone overhype me for this game).

in terms of gameplay, there is so far i can so no revolution, no. but in terms of setting and care for the atmosphere it might very well be a revolution, yes.

Lets not confuse programming with art direction. Few games have such solid artistic style and are this tight in executing it.

All I know is I can not wait to get off work today, drive over to gamestop and pick up my copy. Regardless of what some have said above... This game is one of the better that have been released IMO and I plan to play to my hearts content.
