NFL 2010

Jets fans and Sanchez don't need to apologize for winning. Haters seem to think it's a mistake that they signed Santonio Holmes, that he's incredibly fast, can get behind defenders and he makes these game breaking catches within the 60 minutes allotted for the game. They have a shitload of talented players, they employ sound strategy, they get lucky sometimes, and they score more points than they allow after 60 minutes. It's not that hard to figure out, other teams should try it.

Shit, I'm not apologizing for Leonhard and Kris Jenkins being out tonight.

Peyton's really cementing that spot in the NFL top 10 of all time they gave him huh?

Oh, don't get me wrong - I love them winning. But for all their talent and strategy, they're fantastically inconsistent in the first half.

It's Sanchez, he's not a great reader of defenses and tends to check down too much. When they're losing then they take the shackles off of him, he can push it downfield pretty well. You can't throw that cornber fade better than he did to Santonio against the Bengals on Thanksgiving. I almost choked on my turkey with flashbacks of Plaxico beating Ellis Hobbes in SB42 on the same exact play.

People forget that if he had stayed in school he'd be a rookie now, I think he's still the youngest QB in the league (maybe older than Colt McCoy). So...he has a lot of room for growth.

Cold, windy, and flurries on and off all day. Perfect conditions for the So-Cal Meximerican. I hope his fucking dick freezes and falls off tonight.

The herbal party doesn't start until after dinner.

Then the sacrificial offerings to Crom for a Patriot's victory.

I rarely prey to him though, I do not have the tongue for it. But he if does not listen, then to HELL with him!

This is a tough one to call, flip a coin. Jets have way more talent everywhere except QB, but Belichik usually coaches talented above where it should be. Winner will be sitting pretty.

And you fucking Jets fans are more insufferable than we are, so Crom's fury and scorn upon you all.

Somthing about the lamentations of your women too.

Nope. In fact, it's not even close. Freeman and Stafford are the youngest at 22. Jimmy Clausen and Sam Bradford are both 23. Colt McCoy looks really young but is actually 24. Sanchez himself is also 24.
So 'he's young' isn't an excuse. He is inexperienced though, and that is an excuse and a reason to think he may get better. But the fact that he hasn't gotten more accurate from last year to this year is really worrying.

Also, O-line. And maybe D-Line too.

Anyway, McDaniels just got fired. Just think about what that team could've had if they'd hired a competent coach: Jay Cutler throwing to Brandon Marshall, with Peyton Hillis busting up defenses. And I'm pretty sure they traded away some other big talents, too. Plus, they could've had Mike Nolan coordinating their defense. Instead they now have Kyle Orton (who admittedly is doing very well) throwing to Brandon Lloyd (who somehow broke out, but he's no Brandon Marshall), and Moreno (eh) running. Worse yet: they have Tim Tebow waiting in the wings, while I doubt any coach in the league wants to touch him.

Except Gruden. OOoooohhh boy, Gruden in Denver with Tebow. That'd be hilarious.

So yeah, hiring hot succesful coordinator from the Pats: bad idea. Hiring hot succesful coordinator from Pats, then effectively giving him total personnel control: Horrible idea.

I guess I mean football age rather than chronological age (which as evidenced above can vary greatly even within a mostly same college class due to the creative ways they keep eligibility open.
He came out after one year as a starter, he plays young, and accuracy was always his issue, and accuracy is one of the stats that doesn't improve.

Pretty close there too. Pats basically have 1 legit d-lineman and a bunch of situational scrubs. Jets O-line has only one stiff.

New England has no coordinators. He did call plays, but is one (albeit history making) year enough? He never did anything before, could see this ending badly a mile away.

"But he started 8-0..." heh, don't have to hear that anymore.

ESPN is saying how they are still paying Shanahan, they'll pay out 2 more years for McD - so 3 coaches on payroll. Brilliant. They should've just taken personnel away from Shanny, that's his weakness.

Accuracy improves plenty. Just look at Freeman: went from 55% passer last year to 60% this year. Part of that is probably just recognition of where to throw the ball, but just watching him he seems a lot more accurate.

Still, Sanchez has improved from last year to this year (though the extent of that improvement is overstated due to luck and the receiver help - dropped interception and Santonio Holmes getting about 0 yards extra after catching the ball each time he touches it).

That 8-0 start was because his defense was playing balls out. Then injuries collapsed it for that year, and he chased off the genius coordinator to Miami.

McDaniels' offense hasn't really ever been part of the problem, anyway. Despite poor talent there, that offense has been pretty efficient and downright destructive at times. Kyle Orton's on pace to set some passing records this season.

McDaniels will probably get hired somewhere as an offensive coordinator, and he'll do a great job there. Just have to hope for whoever hires him as a head coach in a few years that he'll learn from this experience with the Broncos.

Wait, they're still paying Shanahan too? No offsettig language in that contract? That's just stupid.

The sound of rings being kissed?

The Patriots dropping it into overdrive and leaving the AFC in the rear-view mirror. Holy shit, they've shredded the league's best defenses, have the most wins, and tie breakers over all the division heavies - Pitt, BAL, SD, Indy and NYJ. Who in their right mind saw them even getting to 10 wins this year?

This team really isn't that good, but holy shit they will be dangerous if they clinch the #1 seed. Somebody better step the fuck up and stop them.

So...Logan Mankins' contract extension announcement when???

edit:
ttachName-480x360.jpg

The Patriots have no business being 10-2 during a rebuilding year. They have yet to cash in on the Seymour trade plus all those other picks they have in the pipeline (2 ea. first 3 rounds again). You have 3-4 more good years of Brady and Belichik. Scary.
They are really playing with house money this year.

Here's my plan to destroy the Pats:

All the other teams in the league collude so no one will trade draft picks with NE this year. That way the Patriots have to use all their picks on players. Their stockpile vanishes, and they won't have enough roster spots to sign all their rookies.

I will proceed with this plan unless NE humiliates the Bears this week. It's not too much to ask.

Q: How will 2012 draft picks be allotted if there's no season in 2011?

There won't be a draft in 2012 unless a new CBA is signed. It's starting to look like a 2011 lockout is unlikely, though.

Yeah, how much turnover does a typical NFL roster have anyway, 10-20%? You can't fit that many picks on a semi-decent team anyway. I don't even care to look ahead to next year's draft yet, but hopefully it's top-heavy again. We never did get that pass rusher. Or RB. (I've got some doubts about Fred Taylor's durability, call me crazy).

Not that they should spend picks just for it's own sake. Slick move how they moved down twice, ('boys traded up for Dez and Broncos wanted Tebow) and still came away with McCourty. That's some astute draft day manipulation.

It's starting to appear like Belichik has potentially epic drafts the last two years
2009 - Chung, Butler, Vollmer, Tate, Edelman, Pryor, Brace
2010 - McCourty, Gronk, Hernandez, Spikes, Cunningham, Mezko
All are seeing lots of playing time and big contributions, more than half are starters.
Then you have all the undrafted guys...shit.

McCourty is a pleasant surprise, didn't really like that pick at all at the time, yet he's stepped in as a legit #1 CB for them. Ty Law 2.0?

Lot of 'gators there, will hurt not having Urban Myer feeding Belichik picks through the pipeline. I expect a shitload of Saban's 'Bama boys to file in now, what with the Croat Connection. He mined Saban a lot when he was at LSU.

It's really amazing how getting rid of Moss has improved this team so much. What a pity, Moss still has plenty of potential production left in him, but he's such a head case. At this point, I'd rather have T.O. he's way more physical and at least he tries.
If ever there was a manual on "How to completely fuck up a contract year" Randy Moss just wrote the book on it. I don't even think his saga is done.

Jets really taking it on the chin from the local media:

And to make matters worse:
Are the Giants trying to help the Dolphins beat the Jets this week?
Apparently the Giants, who share the New Meadowland Stadium with the Jets, and have owed this town for decades, aren’t exactly thrilled with the Jets new found success on and off the field and are willing to go so far as to help opposing teams beat them. The Miami Dolphins announced their weekly schedule for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets yesterday afternoon and it’s a shocker. The Dolphins will leave Miami Friday morning, conduct pressers at their hotel at 11 AM, and then hold their practice at 2 PM at the Timex Performance Center (the NY Giants practice facility.)
Bear in mind the Giants practice facility is on the stadium grounds and the Jets is far away in NJ, much to their consternation. The Jets are still pissed about always being a tenant in someone else's building yet still now they get treated like second class citizens in what is supposedly their own building.

I actually like Rex Ryan, I think he's a good coach, and he brought the right attitude in to a franchise with a real loser culture. He's building them up, giving them confidence, and doesn't want them to feel inferior because of the franchise's history.
But at the end of the day, his bark is much worse than his bite. He really is his father, just less ornery and a little more affable.

To talk Super Bowl all the time when you haven't won a division title ever... Do you hear the actual champion Saints talking about championships and Super Bowls? They know better.
The Giants have always looked down their noses at the Jets, but they only reason they are doing this is because the Jets started running their mouths and throwing their weight around.

What have the Rex Ryan Jets ever accomplished to talk all this shit? That playoff game in San Diego last year was great, I loved it, but they don't even get there if not for Curtis Painter and the Bengals running out of gas.

Speaking of the Giants, I think their pass rush is going to retire Favre this week. I'm sure he starts but, I highly doubt he leaves the game ambulatory.

The next pass is pretty deep in pazss rushers, not so much in RBs tho. But there's some prospects that'll drop that should be good. Like Polk!

As you'll recall I adored the 2009 draft and liked the tactics of 2010...but hell, it's the Pats. I had much manhate for Maroney but that's the last Pats draft pick I didn't like.

Sanchez is ass, nothing new there, but the Jets overall are still much better this year than I expected. Nothing wrong with bravado, though it annoys the media and opposing fans, but when will that be to the detriment of your own team?

I'm just content that Addai never set the world on fire either. Pats and Colts picked them almost consecutively IIRC. So it's not like they passed over the second coming of Marshall Faulk and he ended up going to the Colts. They both wiffed there.

I was always suprised by that pick, not that Maroney couldn't show brief flashes of ability. More that Belihik, being a Parcells disciple, would draft a RB high. I think of a Curtis Martin as the quintessential Bill Parcells RB. Small, durable, late round grinder. BJ-GE fills that role to a degree.

I'm stunned how sweeping away the detritus that was Maroney, Moss, Shawn Springs and Adalius Thomas changed the team so much for the better.
Next knucklehead on the bubble: Brandon Meriweather.

There's a fine line between confidence and delusion with Rex. When they talk the talk and back it up, they come of like intimidating, invincible bullies. When they talk all that shit, the stuff with the wigs, and lose he just looks like a buffoon. He really made himself look bad Monday - the challenge on the QB sneak that he goes for anyway. Then kicking into the wind in almost the same spot. He looked out of his depth. Shottenheimer too is all over the place.

I just want to say, I really hate that prick Braylon Edwards. I never got the hate since I'm not in the Ohio/Michigan hate loop, but here's a guy...he's already delusional and puffed up without Rex. The guy is just a douche. And he belongs in that Paris Hilton kind of category where he's more famous than good for anything.

I think Rex is a clown but hey, it seems to work.

Meanwhile...

Okung doesn't like it when you pick off his QB.

Of course we're going to be hard on them:

Losing to Boston is one thing.

Losing to Boston in such a manner that they get to take a victory lap and piddle in the sandbox is another thing entirely, 'cause they'll never shut up about it.

The annoying thing is the Sox stole all the Patriots thunder by signing those two dudes and outspending the Yankees (I don't follow baseball and resent that when it trumps NFL coverage). Pats/Jets is an afterthought to Yanks/Sox even in their offseason. :?

Pats/Jets is probably the dirtiest, sneakiest, most nefarious rivalry ever. The whole string of events that led to Parcells going to the Jets on the eve of the Pat's SB loss to the Packers (he didn't even ride the plane back with them). Taking Belichik and Curtis Martin with him. The tampering charges and 1st round picks change hands. Then Parcells handpicks BB to succeed him, only to have him resign as HC of the NYJ the same day, and take the job with the Pats. Again, 1st rounder for tampering IIRC. Mo Lewis ends Bledsoe's career, propelling Tom Brady into the starter's role, as he summarily marched them onto vistory against the greatest show on turf. Ty Law defects to the Jets. Mangini goes to the Jets. Spygate, another 1st Rd. pick lost. The whole Favre debacle that sends Pennington to a 1 win Miami team that wins the division. Danny Woodhead. All the paranoia, secrecy and underhanded shit that's gone on. Good drama.
Somebody needs to write a book about that.
Here's a better synopsis of the Parcells saga:
http://www.patsfans.com/articles/patriots/2920/How-Exactly-Will-History-Judge-Parcells-(Pt-3).html

It wasn't always a great rivalry, but last 15 years of Jets/Pats is insane clandestine warfare. The actual football games are pretty good sometimes too.

I'm still holding out hope for a Jets/Colts playoff rematch. I'd love to see them even the score, and Seyton to go one-and-done in a home playoff game yet again.

It would really screw the Pats over if they couldn't trade some of those draft picks.

Packers have a good rookie crop this year, although there are too many injuries obviously. Sam Shields and Frank Zombo were both UDFAs. Shields is the new nickel corner and his success allowed them to release Al Harris, and Zombo has started most of the season at OLB and done a solid job.

Suh getting fined for his "hit" on Cutler from last weekend was an egregious abuse of power. Fines for hits need to be taken out of Goodell's hands, since he obviously can't handle it.
