NFL - The Thread, '08.

Yeah. Well, there's always next year. :)

That's about it. They'll win a few more games this year, but probably not enough to get into the playoffs. They just have too many injuries on the defense.

At least the running game showed a little life today.

Chicago is the best team in the North right now, no question.

Next year?! What, you can't give up this early! It only takes one domino yes? Besides that, maybe your domino is tomorrow at Qwest field, orrrr maybe your Seattles

Beating up the NFC West is never a particular reason to take courage, dude. Anyone can beat up the NFC West.

'cept the Bwoys, 'parrantly. Crazy game.

I hope they stop those f'ing time-outs-at-kick now, those things annoy the shit outta me.

Poor Hawks. It's a shit send-out for Holmgren, and us fans just have to look forward to next year.

edit: holyshitholyshitholyshit crazy ending at Cards-Bwoys. What a way to win it for the Retardinals.

Bizarre wins by Texans and Falcons too. 't was a good week

a TON of crazy games so far. wow, what a day!!!

Hasselbeck is done? Romo's out a month now. Kitna's hurt, TB's gone through how many QB's? Bulger's in and out. Brady is on banging his Brazilian lingeire model on some exotic island. Donovan and Big Ben are nursing injuries. Mannings still shaking the rust off.

This season is having all the excitement of a strike year.
Dan Orlavsky?
Matt Cassel?
I can name 10 college QBs better than them.

oh come ON man...!!! this season has been completely unpredictable! how much more exciting can you get? especially last week? three games down to the last 20 seconds? and a 'boys upset in OT? don't make me put the "spoiled baby bitch" sign on your back when you're not looking!

It's either exciting unpredictability or teams playing down to their competition.

And the officiating has been for shit so far this season.

It's been exciting in close games as TG says, but I agree with Cimm that compared to previous years things haven't been on fire. There hasn't been one guy to get really excited about (like Brady, Moss, Peterson, LDT and Shaun Alexander reaching back a few years), a lot of the hi-powered offenses seem to be missing a few pistons (NE obviously, and Cincy and the Browns, but also the Bwoys).

I mean, it's a lot of fun to watch guys like J.T. O'Sullivan grind out wins 'coz you know the dude earned it, and it's also great to see the Sultan of Stubble reign over both his domains (the Land of Touchdowns and the Barony of Turnovers)...and it's even more fun to see Orlovsky run over the backlike for the cleanest safety I've ever seen...

But exhilarating all this stuff is not.

it always goes in cycles and this is just an embryonic year. i think it is exciting as hell. a lot of names we're just starting to see this year are going to be some of the next gen of those names you're looking for.

I remember watching JTO play in NFL Europa and I thought he was pretty good. He was the best QB I saw in NFL Europa that year, at least. At the time some people were hyping Drew Olsen from UCLA, who wasn't good at all.

The most interesting thing about this season so far is the high number of rookies who are contributing.

Matt Forte, DeSean Jackson, Chris Johnson, Steve Slaton, Jonathan Stewart, Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, DMC, Felix Jones, Tim Hightower...

There are far more than usual.

Well, after today things certianly are looking up.

The Packers have become Seattle's nemesis over the past few years.

Yup, I told yu, never give up hope! That was damn awful for Seattle... Except when the gorilla AKA Patrick Kerny fracking mid air smashed Rogers... I laughed me a few.

As for GB being the nemesis here... Folks don't talk much about it yet. Although, the "unsportsmanlike" or Raider like behavior at times may start to bring folks around but I think it will take GB beating us silly a few more times. Over the past several years its been the other way around.

Sounds like Hasselbeck is out indefinitely. Behold, the Charlie Frye experiment, version 2.0.

My condolences.

Hasselbeck looks to play this Sunday. He was out due to a knee sprain from the other game. He still feels pain in the ligament area but they have yet to find any signs of damage. He is dissapointed that he may not have to wring his hands over the decision of a Lime Green, Blue, or white baseball cap for the sidelines though.

Even if he were out for good we have Seneca Wallace as our secondary. Many remember him from his legendary collage days. To be honest, Charie Fry is an excellent QB he proved that in the pre-season (3-1). He just needs more experience. He made some rookie mistakes, I can't fault him for that.

All said and done... I like to see Seneca play. I don't know many secondary QB's that are so dedicated to their team, that no matter how much money gets thrown at them they turn it down. He probably sees more value in training in Seattle.

EDIT: Just heard Dr.'s figured out Matt's trouble... A bulging disk... He is out this Sunday. Seneca will try to shake off his leg injury and step it up against Tampa Bay on Sunday... I guess my wish came true.

It's no conspiracy, it's what happens when teams start believing their own hype, taking opponents lightly and phoning it in. Are you telling me that the Rams are a better team than the Redskins or that the Browns are that much better than the team regarded as the best team up until now, the reigning champs?

Football seasons like this are the reason mediocre QBs like Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson have Super Bowl rings.

no. i'm telling you that the Giants finally looked like the Eli-lead Giants of last season, and the Browns...who are finally healthy again...looked like the Browns of last season. this was not a "wow, we just snuck that in!", it was a well-executed win.

(and for the record, superbowls like last year are the reason chumps like Eli have a ring. for fucks sake dude, don't kid yourself. )

Dude, the Giants are notorious for playing down to their competition, this is more of the same from them.

I really don't think you can call Eli a chump after what he did last year - 8-0 on the road, going in as a wild-card with no hope, winning at Dallas, at Lambeau in OT, and then beating the undefeated Pats? who's kidding who? That was the best Superbowl of my lifetime, and my team lost! I hate all Mannings, but you have to respect what he did.
