Oblivion's (lack of) AI

Stuck-in-walls has to do with collision detection in 3D and is pretty much impossible in 2D because the system is completely different. Collision detection bugs are hella common. Ragdoll physics does little to alleviate this.

The best collision detection game I have seen is Doom 3.
But it does have a weird bug when you pile >= 5 bodies on top of each other you will always see someone's finger stuck in someone's bug. Really! (use the grav-gun mod to do this)

That's pretty amusing. I've never seen glitches like that in Fallout.
No, believe me, Bethesda does a lot better bug/glitch wise than BIS, that might be one of the only areas, with graphics, where we can be sure to go forwards.
That is debatable. Here is a list of bugs that the unofficial Oblivion patch fixes.

It competes with the length of mine for Fallout 2. From what I have seen (and even heard from those who played older TES games) is that Bethesda counts on the community to fix their mistakes. Their official patches are few and fix mainly engine bugs (and not all of them). Almost all quest related bugs (and map glitches) are fixed by the community.
