Obsidian making Dungeon Siege 3?

Good news for Obsidian, tough I have to say I didn't see this one coming. And with their D&D background, it could turn out another jewel, I do hope they get some outside support on engine department since well they shine in story department. Still hope other companies will follow suit in hiring Obsidian and thus Obsidian will keep making games for long time.

Yes, this is very unexpected. Especially this:

"Players will see their environment change depending on the choices they make"

A more or less non-linear Dungeon Siege? That's blasphemy!

Saw the news earlier but I've never played any of the Dungeon Siege series. Anyone want to give me a light re-cap?

The dungeon siege series were really crappy in my book. A butcher-y Diablo clone in 3d with not so good cameras and boring gameplay. So thats really surprising, that obsidian makes the next one.
Unfortunately I am just tired of games in medieval settings, a pity that I won't buy obsidians newest product...

Also, them comments on this side...

"So, let’s get this straight…

KOTOR
NWN
Fallout

…and now Dungeon Siege.

Is there any strong franchise that Obsidian haven’t been given to butcher?

Loled at this one:

I wish these developers stop touching old PC franchises.
Why not to try something new and COOL for consoles?

They can't really butcher a lot in Dungeon Siege. In fact, the game can only be improved...

Did someone saw the Boll movie? It was hilarious. Can't believe, that Ron Perlman agreed on a role in there.

Ahaha yes, I almost forgot they even made a movie about that. I even played both of the games and can't remember the story, not the slightest.
That says something. :) Also, yep, the games can only be improved...

Hehe amusing stuff Surf Solar made LOL a lot when reading it. Considering Obsidian should have now decent experience, Dungeon Siege 3 might turn out Dungeon Siege/NWN2 hybrid. Remains to be seen, but they have lot work ahead, since Dungeon Siege 1-2 were so boring and the hack & slash just didn't cut it in there. There was no motivation to finish the game and hell the story wasn't interesting.

So their übar-sekret project is Dungeon Siege? Really?

LOL my God, what a joke of a company Obsidian has become.

Well, has always been.

Jason Statham as Farmer was the cake on top of the pie however.

And that pie was previously filled by the Dungeons & Dragons movie.

Surf Solar, the only reason to have Dungeon Siege on your PC is in order to play the Ultima 5 remake and the upcoming Ultima 6.

Both Dungeon Siege and Space Siege went where games have gone plenty of times before.

That it's being developed for consoles as well as PC, I smell the stench of Deadly Alliance and Champions of Norrath. We'll see how well it goes but I worry about the controls, thus the gameplay, for the PC.

why is it so hard anyway to make descent controls for the PC when making a console version as well from it ...

I will never understand that pont (and I have experience in programming ... well somewhat).

Laziness? Tight Deadlines? Not willing to work on so many specific parts for each port in case they need to track down a bug and release a patch?

Or... maybe trying to kill the PC market? I think if the damned XBox 360 never existed, there shouldn't have been so much "Multi-platform" releases. It could've been a bloody competition between Sony and Nintendo, each one getting exclusive titles, and actually trying to take advantage of each console's feautures. Nintendo played it smart IMO, it's one of the most stupid decisions I've ever seen to try to make the games as neutral as possible so you can play them on every platform.

It's not a bad decision for cash though. But it would've been something interesting to see.

I dont see the Nintendo as a reall issue though. If you ask me. And thats my personal oppinion Microsoft is a "tad" worse compared to Sonny. Mainly cause of their live crap which you have to install with many PC games ... even when you dont need it. I swear It gave me so many times a head ache ... On the other side Sonny isnt much better. But maybe its their good marketing I dont know it. It just feels to me like they are a bit "more" fair compared to Microsoft. Anyway. Nintendo is aiming more at the younger generation beeing a system for the whole family. So its not really a competition to either the PC or the other consoles in my eyes. But as said I am not a pro thats just my oppinion. But I think the Wii and its great success proved that the demand of Nintendo consumers is slightly different to those of PC or X-box/PS users. Particularly cause it seems to me there are a lot more kidz games available on it.

And I guess the reason for bad controls on PC games that see a release on the console as well is the need to save money when ever possible ... and the consoles seem to be at the moment the biger market.

Wow, Obsidian has become the official developer of sequels to every big rpg series.

Maybe no other developer in the US is capable of building a RPG, which would be a sad reflection of the current state of the games industry.

Dungeon Siege is an RPG?

"As one of the few remaining members of the disgraced protectors of the land, the 10th Legion, it is up to you to rebuild the once great Legion and stop Ehb from falling into darkness"

Wow, it's definetly an Obsidian game. Just replace 10th Legion with Jedi.

The only game they've made that didn't suck was KoTOR 2, and that was only saved by the story. The game itself was unfinished, buggy, and entirely lacking polish. Hell, 90% of the armor/weapons were recycled from KoTOR. All of the new content (including the environments) looked terrible and amateurish compared to the first game.

Their latest game is just as riddled with bugs as their first (possibly more so), which shows that they clearly haven't learned from their mistakes 6 years down the line.

Seeing a piss poor studio like Obsidian pulling in big-name contracts like New Vegas and DS 3 is a little disheartening, but really; who else are they going to go to? Bioware is the only developer left that regularly churns out decent RPGs for the PC, and they're plenty busy already.
