I like the old stuff I grew up with but I have not been able to get into any new ones. Watching anime in japanese is dumb. The subtitles are also often wrong too LOL.
Japanese also has these highs and lows that dont match how we have them in english. Japanese can sound angry when it doesnt seem apropriate to whats on screen.
She went to a site where the community would translate the animes using a type of video-text format, often the translations were done by actual Japanese posters there that spoke English (or French/German since translations into those languages were also popular there), so that you wouldn't have to worry about getting shoddy western translations, and would download the translation into the video using a quick video editor put together by the community. The way I saw her do it was basically just dropping the community translation and the video into the compiler and then the program produce a new video file with the inserted subtitles. Pretty nifty.
The forum she frequented was essentially, how NMA is the go-to place when it comes to modding anything for the original Fallout games or getting them to work, that forum was basically that for hardcore Japanese media/culture enthusiasts. She was also a major reviewer on multiple sites, and learning Japanese in her off time.
And of course her favorite type of music was J-Pop and K-pop.
Like I said, massive weeb.
I tried to get into anime for her, just like she tried to get into old school cRPG video games for me and (probably feigned) interest in wanting to try Wasteland 2. Because you know you wanna be able to enjoy the things your S.O. enjoys, so I tried to get into anime. I really did try, I just couldn't... and I got tired of my eyes constantly being locked on the bottom of the fucking screen to read the fucking translations constantly instead of being able to just
watch the show. Maybe I just had a bad experience with anime I don't know but I never enjoyed it.
