Old(er) games that deserve a remake/sequel

I would like to see KoTOR II remade in such a way that I am allowed to play it with sound without it crashing.

Nocturne : One Of the best Survival Horror/Adventure games ever .
but this one will be a wish i will take with myself to the Grave since the guy Who made the Voice for "The Stranger" Died recently and NO ONE can take his place .

Blood : I would Love to see a sequel to this game but i doubt there will be any.If someone wants to make a sequel then they better hurry as long as Stephen Weyte is still alive .His voice is one of a Kind as well (Calebs Voice).

Fallout 2 : A True Sequel ,not bethesdas Fallout 3 .

Yup ....these Games are always on my mind and i know i wont see a Goddamn sequel to one of them .

Fallout: A true sequel, not rushed, inconsistent Fallout 2 or bethesda's Fallout 3

I didnt read the entire thread so I dont know if any of these have been mentioned... but I have a few remakes that I think should be remade.

1. Fragile Allegiance
2. Imperialism 1
3. Burntime
4. Emporer of the Fading Suns

I guess thats all I can think of right now off the top of my head. Especially Fragile Allegiance. I play it still with dosbox but it crashes periodically, and I have a problem with not frequently saving so it leads to a lot of frustration.

Games that need to be remade

I was remembering the old days when I played "X-Wing" and "TIE Fighter," and it got me thinking. Anybody else want to see these games remade? With the internet and competitive multiplayer, these games would be a riot to play again today with modern graphics and whatnot.

Anybody else recall these gems?

I do and I agree completely, in fact I was thinking this very thing late last year. These games were awesome and it's really too bad that their sequels weren't as good.

I agree that those games deserve to be remade properly. I particularly liked Tie Fighter, but man, it was hard. Also, as I recall, you absolutely needed a joystick to play it, since the alternative was using the mouse to steer. I wanted to replay it a few years ago, but never got around to buying a new joystick.

These games remind me of how far Lucasarts has fallen as a company.

You needed a joystick, as the mouse controls were nigh impossible to use.

TIE Fighter is probably the greatest Flight Simulation game I've ever played. From the missions, to the Secondary Mission Objectives ("Prepare to join the Secret Order of the Emperor!"), to the music...simply a masterpiece.

A particular gaming moment that has stayed with me since first playing it was at a mission set during the whole "the fleet reeks with treason" atmosphere of the first battles originally in the "Defender of the Empire" Add-on. I called for reinforcements during the mission, a squad of TIEs shows up, and instead of joining the battle their traitorous commander simply mocked me and led the squadron back to hyperspace. Definitely one of the most immersive moments of my gaming "career".

I did complete it once using the mouse, something I'm proud of to this day (it had to be a ballpoint mouse, laser ones don't work; tried it and failed :/)

Same here. Music, controls, gameplay, voices and story were all very nicely executed. If only someone could ever upgrade the graphics while leaving the rest intact... I still have it sitting on a shelf in my living room.

yup, good ol' time.

but just giving them better graphics would not work. it wouldn't be the same.

still i'd welcome an all-out remake. hell, i'd even buy a new joystick for this.

I enjoyed the original X-Wing, but I wouldn't want a remake if it were going to be similarly arcade-like. If you're going to do an X-wing fighter or TIE fighter flight simulator, do it right. Give it realistic (or at least plausible) phyisics and a convincing damage model. How does your ship fly if you lose an engine? What if your targeting system gets destroyed? A Star Wars flight sim should take some cues from top-notch flight sims like IL-2 Sturmovik. Otherwise it's just Battlefront in space.

I like the idea, but I'm confident I wouldn't like the reality. Doubtless it would end up being a Clone Wars console game. Granted, the world does need more of those, but I'd still pass.

I'm terrified of remakes, usually when people are remaking a game, they may 'tweak' the game for today's audiences...

Just look at movie remakes...

I would like to see X-Com: UFO Defense and Terror of the Deep both remade, hell, it doesn't even need 3D graphics, although those would't hurt. More complex country infiltration (say, being attacked by a nation's military if you have a base in the territory of a infiltratred nation), smarter way, even better destructible terrain, bigger maps, no more 80 itens limit, new alien foes, called shots at body parts, proper incendiary damage, aliens atempts to deny you tech, etecetera...

A TFTD remake would be very interesting if they did more research about the ocean. A "depth" diference in the map would be very interesting. Imagine sending a team of troops to the abissal regions of the deep oceans - It would be like UFO Defense's night missions, but ten times worse (for those that don't know, its FUCKING DARK 200 meters and beyond in depth). And also some things in a wish list for TFTD:
* Airborne Interception - what's the point of flying subs without air to-air weapons anyway?(Avalanches anyone?) Surely it's better to 'splash' the USO before it makes it to the safety of water?
* Alternatively, get rid of the pretense that subs can fly. How does sonar track a USO over land, anyway?
* Combined land/sea game, with subs and aircraft, USOs and UFOs, Aquanauts and Soldiers, land and sea bases. Now that would be cool!
* A slightly less dramatic change: on any land mission, automatically swap Dart Guns, Jet Harpoons, HydroJet Cannons and Torpedo Launchers for (respectively) Pistols, Rifles, AutoCannon and Rocket Launchers "from stores" (including their ammo of course). Purchase price of the weapons would be doubled (or just add the cost of the XCOM-EU equivalent) to reflect this versatility.

Essentially the game would switch icons and elements of OBJECT.DAT for a land mission. Could also switch Grenade types perhaps? But it's best to keep some underwater weapons (eg Gas Cannon), especially for land missions where there is some water present. Conceivably, in recognition of the progress made by XCOM, and the increasing threat, the authorities might even make available some of the scarce (?) stocks of laser weapons, to exchange for Gauss weapons during land missions. (But this is not really necessary, as Gauss weapons are quite adequate on land.) Working plasma weapons of course have long since vanished due to lack of Elerium. (Although by the same argument, 1st Alien War-era Personal Armour should be issued to any unarmoured troops on land missions. Maybe it takes 200% damage from Sonic weapons.)
