Going on-topic for a moment; never played Arena or Daggerfall (too young to play), loved Morrowind (it even helped me realize that I preferred fulfilling RPGs over quick gratification games), mixed about Oblivion and Skyrim. With BGS's track record, I fear for TES 6 and how much it will dumb down further (and Elder Scrolls Legends looks more like a duller Hearthstone with an Elder Scrolls skin).
Adding to the discussion: I think the reason why Morrowind is beloved because it made a rather unique fantasy world that encouraged exploration and had proper progression (for an Elder Scrolls game at least) while some of its writing was a bit more nuanced when compared with current Bethesda junk(like whether the Nerevarine is the Chosen One simply due to prophecy or circumstance that the Nerevarine fulfills the prophecy's list of achievements while following the prophecies terms). Simply being forced to rely on directions from a local villager to find bandits harassing their town is more immersive and interesting, for me at least, than following a map marker to random camp of the day(like most modern Bethesda games).
I can understand that Morrowind is not for everyone (everyone's got a different taste and all).
As much as I dislike Bethesda nowadays, I do acknowledge that their past selves could put some effort into a decent game that still had deal-breaking flaws from annoying bugs (like the floor disappearing and killing me when I re-spawned), technical limitations and dated graphics.
