Oxhorn: a solid Reference for Fallout Lore.

I'd rather have someone who actually believes shitty thoughts come forward and be known so I know where I stand with them.

A lack of censorship is not equivalent to the condoning of what is said.

After seeing that exposé on Oxhorn, I have officially unsubscribed from his YouTube channel. I subscribed for the FNV videos and some FO3 stuff (The Pitt and Mothership Zeta). I had liked his presentation and how comprehensive he was but knowing what a homophobic ass he is, I'm done. I have a step-niece who's a lesbian and I won't sell her out like that. I've smoked weed with bisexual people. Some of the best bosses I ever worked for at any job were gay people. Any attack on them over their orientation and the offending party will feel the outcome of a thousand battles. It's more ironic for Ox considering he has no problem using technology pioneered by a gay man who helped break the Enigma codes. He wouldn't be playing Fallout, L.A. Noire, or anything else if it weren't for that guy. Nor would any of us be posting here. We wouldn't even be posting cat pictures on social media. We'd also be speaking German and goose-stepping everywhere.

Ox is also a fucking hypocrite in that he dismisses porn as un-masculine and yet has no problem using NSFW mods in FO4. He'll film teenage girls while out in public (itself already creepy enough) and fat-shame them when he himself doesn't look like he's said "no" to a donut or done a sit-up in twenty years. I'm not exactly athletic-looking either but I at least don't go around fat-shaming people.

While watching Ox's FNV DLC videos, I've noticed some things about his play style that I find stupid. I'm not saying there's a right or wrong build, play style, etc. Just that he could have approached some stuff more intelligently. During his Honest Hearts and Old World Blues series, I noticed he had run-ins with geckos, White Leg dogs, and Nightstalkers. Picking the Animal Friend perk would have avoided all that easily. You don't even need to take both ranks because at just the first rank, animals won't attack you. That's all you really need. And bringing the Compliance Regulator with you makes Lonesome Road a hell of a lot easier. Stack that bad boy with some Turbo/Implant GRX and enemies can't touch you. Just pop your Turbo, spam some shots with the CR til you land a crit, then switch to another weapon and finish the enemy off with that. If your target is particularly strong, switch back to the CR and paralyze them with another crit--EASY! It doesn't matter what weapon skills your character is specced into. You can crit-stun enemies with the CR without putting a single point into Energy Weapons. Best of all, NO ONE AND NOTHING IN THE GAME IS IMMUNE TO THE STUN EFFECT! You absolutely WANT this gun regardless of your build! What the hell is Ox thinking?

"Separate art from the artist," you say? I've tried, but there's a limit. I can't watch anything Bill Cosby has done anymore because of his crimes. Nor can I watch any of Steven Seagal's movies ever again knowing his own misdeeds. I won't watch anything with Jenny McCarthy or Alicia Silverstone in it because they're both anti-vaxxers IRL and I can't support them like that. There's a point where that mantra just doesn't apply, and Oxhorn is in the same club as the above celebrities now. I'm done with him. I don't care if he finds a cure for every cancer known to medicine; Ox is a piece of shit who should go directly to jail. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200. As for lore, there's other channels that are hopefully run by people who actually have their heads on right. That and the Fallout wiki.

TL;DR: I'm fucking DONE with Oxhorn, PERIOD! Glad I never met him before learning this shit. Never meet your heroes, kids, because they always disappoint. Not that I'm saying he was a hero before this came to light.

I don't know what this Oxhorn believe or is like in real life, not my business and since he is probably a nobody like the rest of us, I don't care.

I listened to one or two of his 'fallout lore' videos a while back, and found him sort of funny. He actually believe bethesda's fan fictions are part of Fallout, just that is the joke that never get old.
But despite his funny jokes, I wasn't inspired to follow the rest of his 'lore' even if I normally did youtube, which I don't.

Can't remember the specifics but he had a bait title, the full story of the Followers of the Apocalypse so I tried that, and all he was doing was play New Vegas, detailling every single dialogue options and such so it was more a gameplay video than a 'full story lore' on the Followers. He also had like 2 minutes of Fallout 1 in this video, and curiously he was detailling next to nothing on this part.
Anyway, the kind of thing you listen to when doing something else like modding, if you have any doubt on what not to do, you listen to what he believe to be done right.

Oxhorn actually turned me onto The Legion Will Ryse. I saw how he used it during his Honest Hearts series and had to have it because Glott's helmet looks so much better than SUW's vanilla helmet. That mod isn't condemned because Ox thankfully had nothing to do with making it. But I'm still done with his channel all the same because of his bigoted ways. Let's just say he should be glad he and I don't live in the same state because if I met him, he'd come out of it as if he'd worn non-Philly colors to a Philly sports bar without body armor over it. Hell, given Ox's homophobic views, I now would love nothing more than to transition and then go to a lesbian bar, pick up some cute girl, take her home, smoke a bowl, and make sexy times with her just to piss him off.

Really? He literally just did the quests while reading the dialogue at you.
His content is more let's play that it is explaining game lore.

I would think him covering 76 would be the reason one would unsubscribe from him.

1. I meant Ox's presentation style. I had already played the game before but there was still stuff I'd missed across multiple playthroughs. I can see where you're coming from with the "let's play" thing, though. His videos are glorified let's-plays.

2. His overwhelming coverage of FO76 was part of what did it in for me. I'd only watched the first video (exiting Vault 76). I had subscribed mainly for the FNV stuff, since there's still plenty of stuff I haven't done in that game. But the homophobia, misogyny, racism, fat-shaming, creepiness, all this stuff has killed his channel for me outright. Ox can go fornicate himself with an iron stick.

3. You know how some people do livestreams and then are caught with their pants down because they forgot the camera was still on? I hope that happens to Oxhorn very soon. I won't be surprised if his wife leaves him knowing the shit he says and does. A fat neckbeard with a bowler hat who makes fake all-female dungeons in a video game must have some skeletons in his closet.

Tbh I wouldn't know. Have seen most of the FO Lore (Shoddycast) and review vids and Oxhorn always popped up in my recommends but I never subscribed to the guy for reasons I've stated (glorified Let's Play channel).

He’s fat has a neck beard and has a fedora

Does he do it to be ironic or what LMFAO

That’s like the holy trinity of “my shit is fucked up”

Dunno about all of you, but being able to express one's own thoughts even if they are negative kind of eliminates the concept of "toxic".
Figurative "toxicity" just means stressful/stress-inducing. It has nothing to do with censorship.
Police stations are "toxic" during mass arrests (brawls, gangfights, protesters....) since usually the lobbies are full and the parties are continuing their fights in there before getting put in a cell.
Hospitals are "toxic" during New Year since a lot of firecracker/explosives/gun victims are being brought in at a rapid rate.

Imagine a place like this:

except everyone in the room is an Alex Jones. That would be a "toxic" environment and if you ask me would actually benefit from "censorship." To be clear, NOT censorship of ideas but just someone to get the idiot to shut the fuck up so someone can get a chance to get their points across one at a time.

@MPPlantOfficial
No, I disagree with your perspective completely.
Let the idiot speak, squeal, and scream all they want. Censoring one person because another subjectively considers their perspective "stupid or toxic" is asinine. Hell, it's literally the SJW argument to censor others during debates about real facts while they scream about feelings and triggers.

Your perspective of toxicity is subjective, as well detached from reality. Here's the problem with your definition, it assumes that your definition is congruent with everyone else's. In your argument to censor another you have declared authority to determine what is and is not a valid thought, as well expressed interest to prevent another from sharing their considerations because of your own subjective view point.

If an individual cannot handle "mean" words, that's their problem, not everyone else's. Either people need to figure out how to grow up, or learn to deal with their feelings being crushed. Humans are capable of making their own choices free of the yoke of another, if this presents an existential crisis for some, so be it.

Like I said in the same post:
"To be clear, NOT censorship of ideas but just someone to get the idiot to shut the fuck up so someone can get a chance to get their points across one at a time."
Imagine trying to write something while someone's constantly grabbing your pen to write something else.

Your perspective of toxicity is subjective, as well detached from reality.
My definition of the word is the way it's been used since the 90s. A stress-inducing environment. That's how it's used in the real world and not some circlejerking chat room.

Just because a couple of kids started using it to fit their agenda in the late 2010s that doesn't mean the word has suddenly become an "EssJayDubbaBuzzword." It's these kids' view of reality that's twisted that they fail to see the world beyond who's "EssJayDubba" and "non-EssJayDubba."

If an individual cannot handle "mean" words, that's their problem, not everyone else's.
Irrelevant. As the previous post already stated.
It's not the words themselves that's "toxic" but inability to communicate itself.

Hell, it's literally the SJW argument to censor others during debates about real facts while they scream about feelings and triggers.
I just realized. How do you NOT see the irony here? In your example, this is exactly what I'm pointing need "censorship" : The kids screaming about feelings and triggers. They need to be "censored" or in the context I used it, silenced, so the speaker can get their facts across otherwise it's not even a debate anymore but a screaming match.

also:
...That would be a "toxic" environment and if you ask me would actually benefit from "censorship." To be clear, NOT censorship of ideas but just someone to get the idiot to shut the fuck up so someone can get a chance to get their points across one at a time.
Did you not see " " in there?

Please don't double post, instead complete your thought in a single post or edit it.

My point is that I don't condone any form of censorship, and advocating for censorship only serves to limit who can submit ideas for discussion. Endorsing censorship is endorsing the restriction of freedom.

Define the term idea, consider for a moment your own statements. You're in conflict with your own position.

Based upon your position anything that you don't consider viable as an idea is worthy of censorship, I simply disagree with that. Yes we as individuals can consider the ideas submitted by others as unworthy of attention, however that's an individual subjective standard. It is not something worthy of enforcing censorship simply because, an individual does not want to listen to such unwanted concepts.

As for the term toxic; what happens when someone enters into a toxic scenario? What actions would you expect someone to take to remedy their current situation? What would be the result of their action to solve their conflict? I'm only asking you to consider your position and potential actions in such a scenario.

The issue here is perspective, you're assuming your perspective is inherently correct when it's only one position of many defined by individual input. To support censorship you're also informing others that they may censor you as well. At that point in time the only place left to project one's ideas for discussion is an echo chamber.

Irrelevant. As the previous post already stated.

You reinforced my position of "toxic".

I just realized. How do you NOT see the irony here? In your example, this is exactly what I'm pointing need "censorship" : The kids screaming about feelings and triggers. I disagree, those individuals simply need to be socialized to an acceptable standard. If they're not socialized and taught acceptable standards by others then they simply won't change. Ignoring the conflict they generate through silencing them doesn't help anything, it just lets the problem itself grow and fester.

Consider the positions you take, then contemplate how such positions would affect the world around you.

I barely even know this Oxhorn guy, but I would like to promote Retcon Raider. That's how it should be done. I absolutely admire his work on original Fallout 3 lore; rediscovering lost ideas of a cancelled game seems more important to me than covering better known titles. Those Van Buren videos (31 at the moment!) were very helpful when I was playing a Fallout pnp game with friends...

Maybe I should start a Retcon appreciation thread? :D

Wow cool video. Unfortunately when I went to check out of his channel, I saw only gameplay videos and, when looking through his playlists, I couldn't find a the collection of videos looking at original VB content (or retcon game content in general). Would you mind linking the better videos in question.

Huummmm, that indeed looks very cool. I'll even watch 2, 3 videos of him now, to see if I like it.

What the fuck I didn't even know that was a thing

Apparently, it is. I was surprised, too. And if you buy it believing it'll make your beard grow just like Oxhorn's, then I have five defunct casinos in Atlantic City to sell you, dirt cheap. IIRC, a more comprehensive, age-restricted documentary about Ox made mention of some belief that he thinks anyone without a beard is lesser (the misogyny, remember?). Seeing how I don't have a beard or mustache going on, guess he'd think that way of me. And it's not like I asked to have fucking facial hair of any kind beyond eyebrows. I'd actually rather get it lasered the fuck off to save the hassle of shaving every day. Wake up always being smooth as a baby's butt every day--so much more convenient.
